This was my first ever "hobby grade" which I bought with my own money I had made over the summer. Took 10 hours to charge and lasted 7 mins. But damn those were the best 7 mins of my 11 year old life.

Yup! Not to mention it only had "full" power for a few pulls then steadily decreased in speed until dead.

My Nikko Turbo was the same 8 hour charge and went for 10min …but those 10 minutes were pure joy and just looking at the car on my shelf 😂 I still have it boxed and it runs well ! 😀🙏🏽

Eso se debia a que la maldita compañia tiburonesca obrecia la version basica de bateria 1200 miliamperios y ese auto necesitaba una de 3000 miliamperios habia que comprarla adicional

in the 1980s this lower grade rc did not have a BEC(battery eliminating circuit) so you needed 4.8-6 volts to power the radio and the 7.4 nicad(not nimh yet) to power the 540 motor.

Yep and smaller 1/14 scale Nikko and sears Lobo used 9volt batteries in car along with the 7.2 v pack.

i saved up my money mowing yards as a kid and bought this car, two nicd battery packs and the fast charger that goes to a 12v car battery, at least thats what i used. i beat the crap out of that thing. my friend across the street got a hobby grade ta rc10, and my golden arrow had better accerlation, better cornering and better top end. he had to put it together too, he was pissed and i was happy. my rear tires were bald before i destroyed the pcb, i crashed it with the body off of it, as that body was heavy and weighed it down. it was super tough to control off road, it would bounce around like crazy and spin out so easily. i just remembered i would tape the battery to the top of the rear wing, and it would wheelie lol i managed the keep the fast nicd charger but the car got tossed probably back in 1991 or so, i picked up another back in 2009 for like $30 off of ebay and it was in mint condition but didnt have a controller, i eventually got a controller for it and bashed it around with my traxxas stuf, while it was bad ass back in 89, it is nothing compared modern rc.

My stepfather was a manager at Radio Shack and one night I was at the store with him and an employee as they were finishing up inventory, and he brought this thing out. I think someone returned it. I knew that it could do 40 mph, and I couldn't comprehend what it would look like to see an RC car going that fast. He powered it up and just ran it around the store for a few seconds. It was amazing, but it couldn't really do much b/c it was confined, and the slippery floor meant it couldn't get any traction. I knew just ONE kid at school that had one. I never got to see one in action back then. I've thought about buying one off eBay but I'm sure it won't be the same as it would have been to see it as a kid. My first hobby grade car was a Typhon 6S, nearly twice as fast out of the box. I miss Radio Shack.

Awesome! I’ve got the nikko Super Lobo that is still all stock & a thunderbolt that I put new brushed electronics in with an old Traxxas stinger motor. Same chassis and also shared a lot of parts with the Traxxas Cat. Tamiya frog/hornet rims are direct fit & a lot easier to source than the stock rear tires.

Very cool man, love that car! Mod it for sure. But don't go crazy with brushless. Just put a good brushed motor in it with a 1060HW esc, lipo, new modern servo and new rear tires that are close to original style. I'm pretty sure that's got a Mabuchi 540 in it, so you can put a good much hotter brushed in its place. I think brushless will just tear the gears out of it.

This is hands down the best car you have had on here in a very long time. I had this and the red arrow as a kid and they were out with losi because I had a losi jrx2 that I raced. Associated as well wasn't just tamyia the golden arrow amd red arrow I bought new from radio shack when I had my losi because my dad wouldn't let me drive my losi off the race track lol. All 3 were released in 87 or 88. My buddy took 2 place in a novice a main with a golden arrow way back then when there was no brushless motors and every class had a motor limit. Great cars for toy grade. Cool thing was you could buy replacement parts from nikko who made the cars. You couldn't do that with toy's r us cars or Walmart crap

They ran the double A's for the servo. To free up more power for the motor. I forget which radio shack buggy it was. It was pretty much exactly the same as the Golden arrow. But ran off the 7.2 only. My friend had it and it was substantially slower than my Golden arrow. So back in the day when I looked for an RC car and made sure it took the double A's in the nicad.
