Brings me back to the days of incandescent light bulbs, old rotary telephones, blind date on the telly, cigarette haze across the ceiling coming from the dinner table with friends family around playing risk, while we slid down the stairs in sleeping bags, and finally, Chinese takeaway and red dwarf to finish off the evening

@wilkopiano2 күн бұрын
Nautilus is incredible bang for buck, however i do think adding the kronos vector joystick back and 16 sample pads from pa5x surely can’t break the bank. They prematurely released nautilus without Aftertouch and the new AT marked up price is too much and no 73 key at model, why?. Still good choice for most. Although these new addons are all available with korg apps an ipad and a usb interface

They " HAD " to discontinue the Kronos ??
@hificomics2 күн бұрын
Right? I still love my Kronos. I'd be curious to know why he said around the 16:20 mark that they "had to discontinue" the Kronos. I briefly had a Nautilus and Kronos at the same time, but kept only the Kronos because I loved the larger screen and more tactile controls/interface. The Nautilus is a nice board and offers good value, I suppose, especially when compared to Montage and Fantom (for example). But, I would love to see them advance the tech and give us back an updated true flagship. Modern processor, new sound engine or two, and please please an updated keybed since the RH3 is like 15+ years old (how about give us triple sensors, better key texture, more usable aftertouch, etc.)
@ZTAudioКүн бұрын
@@hificomics I can offer some possible insight. The Kronos employed a relatively low powered (by today’s standards) Intel Atom CPU and associated motherboard and chipset. The Atom architecture seemed like a very good way to go at the time, as it was plenty powerful for what Korg wanted to do, and was expected to be on the market for a long time. The Atom CPU line is no longer available, so Korg had to upgrade to something more recent … and more powerful. The extra horsepower opens up some possibilities that were not feasible with the Atom CPU.
@hificomicsКүн бұрын
@@ZTAudio Thanks, and interesting. But now I'm more confused - if they indeed discontinued the Kronos largely because of the Atom CPU issue, why did they continue to use it for the Nautilus? Several google results say the Nautilus is still using an Intel Atom. Or maybe those are wrong? What is the Nautilus using I wonder. Curious! :)
@ZTAudioКүн бұрын
@ Well, now I’m stumped and/or confused myself. AFAIK, Intel stopped making the Atom right around the time I stopped working for Intel … 2016 or thereabouts.

Synth manufacturers are working hard to fill us with features we do not need. Just bring back the vintage synths in lightweight, reliable digital form with modern connections and the option of hammer keys, guys. No brainer.
@sonickitchen2 күн бұрын
Too right. Giving it away for free like this or updating it like the Wavestate is terrible. €not).
@CTBroadfoot2 күн бұрын
I’d rather see new technology and innovation rather than constantly trying to recreate vintage synths. Most players need keyboards that do everything well enough, not just vintage synths which by and large have only a few iconic sounds.
@sonickitchenКүн бұрын
@@CTBroadfoot What new tech do you need? I'm no great player but have pretty much seen it all. There are some aspects of 'vintage' synths that have fallen by the wayside, most notably, multitimbrality and the types of synthesis. There are also many other new boutique or innovative keys or modules out there, at different price points, but not from the big brands. Humbly suggest if this is what you really want then get out there and give 'em a try.

Cheaper derivative of the Kronos to squeeze more money out of their Kronos investment IMO. When are we going to see a new flagship workstation to replace Kronos? Meanwhile, my Roland Fantom and Korg Pa5X are working great for me while I wait and see what the next generation workstations will be.

Korg has NOT done anything “new” or innovative since the Kronos. They even was too lazy and made a Kronos 2 and then another forgettable version that loss features from the previous one. Korg hasn’t been the same since Rich was scooped up by Casio😂. I absolutely love Korg it my preferred Workstation brand but they just stop innovating. They have literally re-released all their old synths of the past like every 2 years. I don’t understand what going on with Korg but they are being left behind giving a bunch of features most people wont use or care about! Sounds really come on Korg dang!

I actually prefer the Nautilus. The Kronos reminds me too much about Open Labs Neko. The screen is just overbearing. I believe Korg had taken a wrong turn with the OASYS. Now they seem to be getting back on track. Maybe at some point they'll abandon Intel Atom architecture in favor of FPGA's, or more proprietary architecture, like Roland and Yamaha did.
