I would stay. But you should be able to just grab the shsh blobs for later anyway. But seriously, stay. You always get curious about updates, everyone does, but when you see those videos of iOS 8 and iOS 9 and how slow they are you just think "oh no it won't feel THAT bad" - trust me, it does, and as soon as you upgrade you are going to scramble back to iOS 6.1.3 just for it to be usable again. Stay on iOS 7, it's worth it, anything higher truly is unusable to the point where the lack of app support is worth it.

*+ʝαcƙ ωooժheαɗ* I'm sure you have reasons for sticking to a 4S, but honestly, I'd say just get a newer one. In case you want to get a newer one, here's what I suggest. If you can, try to find a used iPhone 5s, 6, or even an SE instead of sticking with the 4S. When I was searching, I found some used iPhone SE's on Amazon selling for about $135 dollars last I checked. Dunno if the price has gone up or down though. Basically, any 64-bit iOS device will work since 64-bit phones will be supported much longer than 32-bit devices like the 4S.

its on nyan_satan's page, she/he wrote a dual boot guide, just patch an iPhone 4 7.x ipsw with the IBEC and IBSS from an iPod 4 iOS 6.x ipsw and you're off. If you can pull the wifi and camera drivers from the iPod 4 iOS 6.x ipsw and set up vram somehow I assume this could be quite nice, well as nice as iOS 7 on an iPod 4 can be.

The 4s was one of the best iPhones ever try and debate me it just is. Lasted almost forever even though I upgraded long before it got basically destroyed by updated with lots of phones on a 8 right now. The design and size were amazing for the time and it felt like a really nice product to use.

Crane you’re right I wanted the phone so bad back when it was new and a couple years after that. It was fast, could play games great, and just looked nice, but then Apple butchered it completely with iOS 9 and is now looked down on. Hopefully this doesn’t happen with the iPhone 6S cause I feel the exact same way with it as I did with the 4S. Right now the 6S is still an amazing phone and if Apple butchers this one to, then fuck them. Seems like the 5S is going the same route as the 4S, but maybe iOS 12 will improve it.

I always thought if apple didn't support an device to update any further, it would be impossible to do. But now my mind is blown! At first I thought it was skinned iOS 6 or something but no! It's full working iOS 7!? Wow i wonder if it's possible to do the same for some newer devices i think you need to have the same chip like in this case iPhone 4 has A4 and runs iOS 7 while iPod touch 4 has A4 as well but only iOS 6 is the latest so they managed to port the iOS 7 to iPod touch 4. I think you can do the same for iPad 1st gen cause it has A4 as well and it runs only up to iOS 5.

Tomas Gaming the reason iOS 7 wasn’t on the iPod 4 and iPad 1 was cause they didn’t have enough ram the iPhone 4 had 512MB while the iPod and iPad had 256MB.

Skeleton 11223 yeah that's the main point of getting iOS 7 on older device, speed is not the requirement but app support is, however this method is still just for testing than using in regular basis because of kernel panic and other know issues.

actually. this is NOT the case for the device is crashing and malfunctioning, its because the device is running a software that was made officially for a different device, despite the fact of an ipod touch running a firmware of an iphone, its how the device is capable of handling an iphone on ipod touch which is why it killed it. also the software was never made from apple for that device, pretty much reasonable.

Josh I rein acted the first iPhone 6 unboxing in Australia and I threw my iPod 4 around and it bounced off a lounge and flew into a brick wall which made it have a crack line on the top and then I picked it up and my little brother slapped it out of my hands onto a vacuum which had a crack like yours in the top right corner of my iPod 4 but I know it is a old device and I have a way better phone than that but I am a collector and I am going to get a screen replacement

I just had my old iPod out and I wondered if I could use it as a Bluetooth receiver and place it in my old Bose sound dock to send music from my iPad to it, Spotify for example. Certain has been fixed. Wifi now works, crashing has been fixed, strings that say iphone has been mostly fixed, cameras might work in the future, some small speed improvements and you can get sound via airplay.
