Moving to the cabin is a bit of an anticlimax. The floor is not ready yet, and I'm a little bit under the weather. I'm building an 'anti-freeze' water setup for the chickens and get started with installing the floor.

My family enjoys watching you weekly. Our 26-year old son William died in September. He loved watching you. We live in Nashville, Tennessee, and he lived in Chattanooga. On Sunday nights we would cue up your latest video and have a long-distance watch party. We would count down 3-2-1, start the video, and then have a good time watching and commenting to each other about your various projects. Once William took a solo vacation in a tent and told us that he was "living like Martijn" and loving it. We find your videos comforting and marvel at the beauty of your part of the world. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Dear Martijn you’re such an inspiring person. Watching your videos is for me a moment of self reflection. When I look at the way you progress little by little towards your goal, I reflect on my own small achievements and I am grateful and proud of what I’ve done so far. You’re also amazingly strong, working hard and sleeping in a tent for 1.5 years, embracing the setbacks of living in the nature with humbleness and resilience. A role model. I wish you to get well soon and all the luck to settle in the first cabin as soon as possible.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to film, to help us understand and instill those who are watching with your sheer determination with what you are doing so that we might emulate it in our lives. 30:55 Now that's an impressive shot. It looks like you must have walked all the way around the back of the cabin, just so you didn't disturb the snow, to set up the camera, then you could have the shot of you leaving the cabin with fresh untouched snow outside. That's some dedication to getting a beautiful shot.
@mm9773
@mm9773 5 ай бұрын
Probably. That’s so easily forgotten, but it’s real work to set up the shots. Documentaries about trains always make me chuckle: what does it take to film a train leaving the station, film the journey inside the train, the moving train from the outside, and the train arriving? Do you do that over several days? What if the weather changes? So much effort.

I'm usually quite good at imagining spaces before they materialise, but it took me quite a while to realize what were you planning to do with integrated oven, stairs and new floor. Your ability to plan out the space way before it actually starts coming together is amazing, and you have beautiful taste, everything is neat and quite well integrated in overall style of the cabin.

Wow. This is a true milestone for Martijn, the project, and for all of us as ardent viewers and supporters. Like most projects things always take longer than you anticipate. In my previous life we had to create scopes of work and budgets for client projects, and all of those had deadlines that had to met as well. The weather can be surprise deadline that comes along without warning. The last week of November is a bit early for snow but when the forecast says snow you have to go with the flow. If the snow had held off until the end of December that would have allowed a few more weeks (of time) to get the floor done, maybe the rough kitchen and plumbing up and connected, etc. In Martijn's case the tent needed to come down in one day since snow was coming that night. It's never fun to have to rush through a project milestone event, like moving from the tent to the cabin. Lots of memories to process and reflect upon, both the many good ones and the few not so good ones, as an era ends and another begins. Plus being a bit under the weather doesn't help. I live alone myself and sometimes I will have a moment of transition or achievement that I want to share but there isn't another human being there at the moment. I guess that's the solitary life. Thankfully there are good friends and family we can call or visit to share these moments with. Martijn gets to share them with us but like he mentioned in the Q&A there is a great interpersonal distance (almost a gulf or a void) between the producer and the audience for a video series like this one. With hundreds of thousands of viewers and commentators (me and you included) it's impossible to be close to so many. I've mentioned this before but I often think of the RUSH tune, Limelight, where the lyrics say, "Living in a fisheye lens, Caught in the camera eye, I have no heart to lie, I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend." Strangers though we may be, we do have a common joy; that we are able to share at least a glimpse into an interesting life being shared with us by the liver of that life, Martijn Doolaard. We are Doolaardians together. Thank you Martijn for sharing so much with us, the work, your personal reflections, and even your struggles; struggles that you always seem to take in stride. As for me I pray for you, asking God to bless you and to be gracious to you as you work, plan, and create your dreams in Val Pellice.

Every week i feel, taste, smell what you may have done that week and feel that i have been roughing it in the italian alps for another week, living healthy, being fit but cold and maybe lonely but proud of another weeks accomplishments. Please look after yourself, respect your limitations and hang in there. Your show has become something very close to my core, i am loving it ever more. Ok…..how can I make this comment short and not a book! 🤔😄 You continue to bring us such a variety of wonderful videos each week, this week was a peek into your day to day life, I enjoyed it so much! The vegetation around you has changed quickly this year. Didn’t seem to have much autumn, it definitely looks like winter now! Your beautiful snowfall later in video sure proved that up. No matter the season, you live in a magical place! It was so nice to see you feed your wild birds some seeds/dried worms mix. I do hope you have some come in to feed. It would be rewarding for you to watch them. Your white chicken seems healed already! I was so happy to see it doing so well. When you went into the cabin the first time in this video, with the wide view of stove and stairs it was a solid wow from me! It is gorgeous Martijn! Such a work of art! Cabinets yay! You will find many ways to use them with your creativity and each will all be beautiful. I always anxiously wait to see what you will create on your place. Your wall of firewood stacked outside your cabin is pretty, makes the soul feel cozy seeing it and knowing it will bring good warm days and nights in your cabin. It was rough watching you stack your delivered wood in the cold dark evening. Oh was I ever nervous to see you climb on the rafters putting in your flooring and then as you walked, balancing the floor plank to take it outside to work on it. 🫣 It’s just amazing that you cut the floor to match the stone wall and how you are putting the electrical wire in the flooring. That is pure perfection! I loved your memories at your deck…I remember that day very well….you did a little barefoot dance on the deck. 😄 I loved it!! I saw a part of Martijn that helped define your personality! It was rather bittersweet to see you move from your tent and outdoor kitchen, but your cabin will be wonderful!! I just can’t believe you slept on that small bit of flooring. You must not move during the night. You had no room to move…you scare me sometimes! 😳 The rainbow at the outro was nice. I hope you are feeling better from your cold. Take some Zinc, Vitamin C, sip on ginger tea with honey, eat some chicken soup. Cozy up in your B&B, around a fire, relax and feel better. See you next week. 💚 from Texas

Just keep going...... that's all we can do. I'm so glad to see you out of the tent for the winter, Martjin. You will be settled in to the stone house very soon. Kind of like closing old doors, and opening new ones. Thank You so much! And, by the way, THAT rainbow at the end couldn't have been more beautiful!♥️

Greetings from Australia Martijn, What a Huge Week for You, Your woodworking skills are just Brilliant, when I see that Stove burning and heating up Your Magnificent Home, absolutely Wonderful 👌🏽 Great to see the chickens are enclosed in an a feeder.. Where Your tent was will make a wonderful place to sit in Spring, Summer and Autumn to have a glass of Wine. Cannot wait to see next week's addition, the Flooring will be complete, the kitchen beginning to be installed.. Once Water is connected, the weather outside can be completely snowed over, and living inside the house will be Such a Pleasure... Well Done Martijn, Thank You once again for such a Beautiful Presentation of Your achievements... Thank You, Paul in Queensland, Australia.

You could use some of the drawers section of the kitchen, for a small bedside dresser etc . too. Big thank you for your vlogs as I love watching how you build your new home, plus we get to learn so much (much to be appreciated), such as your organizational skills, workmanship, taking us around the village, the fascinating sceneries the world is blessed to have, I could go on. Nice also to see your friends help out too :) Ollie did a great thing preparing the logs closer to the cabin. May God bless you, your family and all your kind hearted viewers. Know what you share is forever appreciated!

A rainbow , absolutely perfect to end a video after moving into your wonderful achievement. Hard work , great planning to be able to finished your cabin in relatively comfortable conditions. Congratulations, a milestone to always remember. Seeing the tent come down was such a little gratifying but it served it purpose very well for the last year and a half. It was also great to see that you protected the water for the two remaining chickens for the winter. The flooring is beautiful and having solid wood cabinets is a great find. Chestnut trees are very rare now and maybe completely gone in the US. It is a beautiful durable wood. I can only imagine how much work it took to find a safe place to store the cabinets and the remaining flooring. Another great week to come and looking forward to the progress next Sunday. Thank you, once again, Martijn, for sharing your journey with us... it makes me happy to know you will be inside a solid structure, and nice, and warm this year... I also feel sad at the same time, to see the tent go. It is such a beautiful thing, not only just it's pleasing shape, but the night shots of the glowing lights, and fire, and the daytime shots of the glow from the outside in, with the leaves dotting the top of the tent... very beautiful. I was happy to hear you speaking more in this video... It's nice to hear your voice, and your thoughts about the changes, and progress. Would love to see more of that in future videos. Congrats on your move, and continued progress.

Feel better Martijn. I had that same cold over the last 1 1/2 weeks. It sucks. Back to biking with my dogs and doing all my usual farm stuff, so it gets better. That is the good news. Congratulations on moving in. I lived 3 1/2 years without running water, electricity or internet. It was confusing and bittersweet to have all the nice things I have now and sometimes I long for that simplicity. Beautiful work on the floors.

Replicate the most authentic, a rendition of subdued elegance that brings an atmosphere delightful to the ones who are willing to experience what the place has to give. The image attached to homey is shown well done when the stove is lit and the casual activities typical to a surrounding fill with warmth and contentment. Can’t take for granted warnings even if things are unlikely to come true as weather or time is unpredictable and beyond control. The walls are neatly scrubbed around from the bottom to top as light reveals. It cannot discount hard work and pain on how it is meticulously done. Another milestone has achieved, and continues ... even after its completion.
