They died spiritually immediately. By God's grace and mercy, their bodies and soul lived on. The body dies after a certain time. The soul is reserved til judgement day, and if you're not redeemed, that's when the soul dies.

No man was not supposed to live forever because humanity had sinned against Him but there is a Good News, that those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ shall have eternal life. They were stopped from eating from the tree of life as it is part of God's redemptive plan.

Why didn't God condemn Adam and eve to hell and tell them they will suffer there forever and ever instead of saying to dust they will return which appears to be death? So sinful man will die like Adam and eve died? When God created man he, man, was dead until God, though his breathe, give him life. So the life of man is within God. When he takes it out we die and when he put it in we live. The life we have, come from God and he can take it at will or leave it at will. It's all about his good pleasure.

Now God had an option to destroy Eve, which HE should have done. Now let's examine the Bible book of Genesis and see how God told evil Eve that man shall DOMINATE all women. Read the book of Genesis and you will see that God never performed a wedding ceremony between Adam and Eve because Eve was Adams HELPER who was put together to be Adams breeding partner. Uhm, that is not a mathematical formula. Point Peter was making, God was busy preparing for the judgment. This is why the next sentence states He is not slack concerning the promise. Shortly after it was written, the Jewish revolt began, then the lawless one was revealed, then Peter wrote 2 Peter 1-2.

They didn't die physically on the spot. They were now destined to eventually die when before they were destined to live forever with God. The Bible says right after that that they were drawn out from the garden and started giving birth to their sons. In chapter 5 it says Adam lived 130 years and had a son named Seth. "Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters." Gen 5:4

@Guy From Plane They did not die physically on the spot, but it was destined. It was Hebrew Idiom. A reading from original language will help us in this case.

@@ἸαίἘσώθη they did.... instantly.....but not physical death...it was spiritual death... that's where most 'christians' don't understand, they think it was physical death but it's not. Even God doesn't regard physical death as actual death in the scriptures...this is why when Lazarus died Jesus said he had slept...and people back then also didn't understand. Even if adam and eve didn't eat the fruit they would have still died physically after they lived their full libes but they would have never died spiritually

@@theoriginalmilkman Adams body before the sin maybe won't last forever but Adam is destined to live forever, no question about it. If Adam didn't sin he probably still have to eat the fruit of the tree of life to change his finite body to eternal body.
