I can't speak for all the other followers, but I never doubted for one second that you didn't know and didn't have a plan. I've just been following you long enough to know your stuff. Remember not long ago, you called Nathan, OTW, to ask a question. Obviously, if you are in motion on something, any doubt arises, you will clear that up. Whether you let us see that or not, as I've told my brother and 2 boys and friends, before you begin your project, check out Mike on Outdoors With the Morgans, because he knows what he's doing! Again, Mike, thanks for all the time and effort you put into your videos so you can share your life with all of us. I really enjoy you, and wish you'd post twice a day! You always leave me wanting more. ❤

46 plus years as a construction electrician we almost always used an industrial vacuum cleaner to blow or suck In a string using a rag or plastic bag. You can do that in very long runs of conduit. Great job. 👍

Nice trick with the blower! I used to live in an area where the inspector needed to 'sign off' on the trench while it was open. I started to wire my detached garage from the house, got to know my guy pretty well over the time we built the garage. I had the trench open, conduit run, and an early season Noreaster bearing down on us in the next day. I called him up and he told me "hold your phone close to the trench so I can see you have it deep enough" (pre-smart phone), then he said "your good thanks for calling". Good luck on opening day!

I was an electrician for 10 yrs.. I've put lotsa string in conduit. We always used a vac/blower. Works like a champ. I've put string in as far as 500 feet of pipe, no problem. Always blow/suck all the debris from the pipe, that inevitably gets in there, first. Then do the string.

Thanks Guys! IN a couple weeks, I'll be digging a 200' for my electric lateral to my new house. I found your videos because I was concerned about the cycle time on the BX23s backhoe. I've run some excavators in the past, but thought I'd try my orange machine. My machine seems to have a slow swing. I'm up in NW PA and had the same inspection questions. The power company is not answering my queries one this, so I asked the building inspector when he was out inspecting the foundation. He told me I can backfill but leave the 90-sweeps uncovered until he looks at them. He said that tells him all he needs to know.

When I was doing the steering for a horizontal directional drilling company we did it using same principle you did,, just much bigger. We had a tool for each size of conduit we called a “pig.” We blew it through the conduit with a big industrial compressor and it pulled a small rope through the conduit. That small rope pulled a much larger rope in by wrapping it around the track on the excavator. Then the big rope pulled in the product, again using the track on the excavator. The longest bore I can remember doing was a little over 2,000 feet. The “pig” could also be used by its self to blow water out of the conduit if we sealed off the entrance end of the conduit. It made for a cool sight to see when the water came blasting out of the conduit.

Funny story: Back in the 80's Greenlee came out with a vac system for blowing in string. My dad and I were wiring a strip mall and had several 2 1/2" underground conduits running the length of the building for each units' service. We saw this Greenlee tool at the wholesale house and figured it would work great in getting the string in the pipe. We set it up and started blowing the string, it had what we called a mouse tied to the string to provide the resistance needed for blowing. We were about 280' from the service room so we assumed it would take some time for that little mouse to make its way all the way there, so we started blowing the string and a few minutes later the string was still going into the pipe. First time for us so we went to take a look at the service room and the mouse had been blown up into the steel trusses and about a thousand feet of string was hanging all over the room. We have evolved to using a shop vac and plastic bag now.

For Mike and the rest of the viewers. I have worked as an electrician many years ago (in the 1970's to the 80's) and that is how we get wire pulled wire through conduit with a string or a small rope. Sometimes we use the blower side of a shop-vac to push a string and sometimes we used the shop-vac to pull it through on the suction side. The shop-vac was used for small job and when needed, a trailer mounted air compressor was used for large pipes and long pulls like 5 lines of 500mcm cable with the use of an electric tugger (wench). This is an very old way of getting wire through a length of conduit the easy was and it still works, a no brainer!!! As for the hunting side of this video, I did not watch it as I am not in favor of hunting unless it is for survival only.

Mike I am a Master Electrician and the correct way to get the string in the conduit is to wait until you are done installing it then use your light twine or string with the bag tied on down at the pole and a shop vacuum at the building (because you have power closer at the shop). A shop vac sealed tight over the pipe (using tape and some plastic bag if needed) will suck your twine and bag through the conduit in a couple seconds even if it’s hundreds of feet long. Have done it 100’s of times, a sturdier plastic bag is even better if you balloon it up a bit to seal inside the pipe (not too tight) then tie on the string, cut away the rest to save weight. Your electrician may have an actual conduit plug instead of the bag (such as made by GreenLee) but the bag will work for a one time use. The best twine would be light haying twine from a local farmer friend, vacuum will pull it right off the spool so there are no tangles. Good luck.

I have never lived in an area that the permit guy or electric company did not want to inspect the run before you cover it. But I do know that every area have different rules. I have used the blower to blow the string down the tubing. Never used the plastic bag, but that is a great idea. Looking good Mike.

Regarding conduit inspection, you have a lot of documented video that any inspector would accept. I retired after 45 years in electrical trade , mostly as a Master in Michigan. We alway kept disposable cameras in our service vans to photo document jobs when inspectors were delayed or unable to be on site as scheduled. We had an old fashioned yard stack we would set into picture for accuracy. Your trench was great,I liked to double over the safety tape and leave some slack so it would pull out on digging and not stay in the trench. Also we would backfill with two feet of sand , it is an early sign of something buried. Enjoy your projects ,wish I could do some myself but health issues have made me a spectator now.

For the guys who don't have a leaf blower use a shop vac and fyi you should always mark your underground with caution tape and a different kind of fill over pipes water electrical ECT. So down the road when you sell or have passed on to greener pastures who ever is digging sees the different fill then tape and doesn't break what's buried

Mike I had no doubt that you had things under control for fishing to the power pole, I have never heard or seen it done but proof is in the details. That trail camera is busy lots of wildlife going through that spot. Thank you for sharing your video with us good luck on the deer season this year. Hello Hunter. Ed and the rope trick came with special effects, rumbles, sounding air, and a surprise it worked. It doesn't make sense to inspect a trench before being filled in like you said Mike a rain could collapse the trench the inspector wouldn't be able to inspect and you would have to re dig.

I remember plowing the garden for my grandpa with the tractor and before I would get done with it (about 1.5-2 acres) sometimes the deer would come out into it as I was finishing. Idk if it was something about the smell of the dirt or curiosity. He also had an old circular sawmill and he let a guy hunt the property. He was in the woods one day and grandpa wanted to do some sawing so we went down there and fired it up and the guy came out a little later and act like he was mad about it and never came back. We finished sawing that day and we were sitting at the mill talking and looked in the field below that we also farmed and a deer was in it. Lol

In the off season, you can hang milk jugs (painted or not) in the Mini Cabin windows. The deer get used to the movement and will be less likely to spook when you move around while hunting. It works for sure. We do it in all our stands in the off season with great results.

Leave it to you for coming up with the ultimate solution. I had mentioned it to you, and thought some sort of air pressure would do it, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what you would do to attach whatever to the end. Little did I realize a simple plastic bag is ideal. Great idea. I would do some preventative measure when running the new line, or even easily feeding through the old one, and that is avoid any rain water build up in the pipe. If by any chance in the new run you get a valley in the run, and water gets in there, the paper bag would no longer work. So if you make a fresh run, and haven't blown the bag through protect it from rainwater. Of course the easiest thing to do is be sure and do the bag run right away when running fresh runs.

That works great for larger diameter conduits but for one inch and down I still think the shop vac is better. Also consider the direction when pulling fishing string or wire. Pull in the bell to spigot direction of the pipe sections because inside of each connection there is a sharp inside diameter edge of the spigot end of the pipe that must be crossed many times. It is better to cross this edge in a direction that is toward the bell because it reduces the scraping effect of this internal sharp edge on what ever you are pulling or in Mike's technique, pushing.

Any good electrical person will tell you to get a "RAT" of a size appropriate for 2 1/2" conduit (used to blow a very small nylon string) through the conduit with a Co2 cylinder and then all your pulling rope to it and pull it back through the conduit. Your method will work just fine for a shorter conduit run. A conduit run over 200 feet usually takes more pressure with a sudden blast to make it. Your common sense is working for you most of the time so just keep on doing what you are doing. I am an electrician with over 40 years of experience.

Good morning With the high volume of air that the leaf blower produces it should work well but generally vaccum works better. If it gets stuck in the tube try a vacuum. A vacuum tends to move product thru tubing. In the plastic industry vacuum is used to convey the plastic resin to the machine. They have plastic spools different sizes to pull the string thru the tubing..

I was wondering about running the wire myself. When I was a kid I worked with my Dad on many concrete and digging projects around the house. One time we ran a water line to the lake that was about 2000'. Lots of hand work back then.

Slick trick, Mike getting that string thru the conduit. I would never have thought of it! I was saying to the tv “run a fish tape thru it Mike”. But you had a better idea - much easier!

hello Mike. which I keep forgetting to explain. The reason that recently I only gave a thumbs up twice as a response (👍👍) is that I have always found out briefly that KZbin already counts this as a response and it saves me a lot of time because I am Dutch and have Dislection , now I have taught myself English through the subtitles for series and movies, now I have to start every reaction in Google translate , and fight with Google translate until I have the sentence correct in my opinion, then copy, and then paste it in KZbin , I've been working on it for 15/20 minutes, THIS reaction has already taken me 30/45 minutes haha, but I wish you could have explained why you keep seeing 👍👍. with kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands

Mike: I liked your method, I made a rabbit in the past with styrofoam and used a vacuum. But a plastic bag and a leaf blower is even better. Great Idea thank you!

Good morning Mike, using a leaf blower to clear the walk-in trail to the single tree blind would help. Good luck and fill your tags. Thanks for sharing with us, Fred.

This is great a mini version of a mandrill in a sewer pipe ! I lay big sewer pipe for a living underneath roads and we use the same concept with a big trash bag a rope and a air compressor with the wand then hook to bigger rope and pull back to connect to the Metal ball to pull back through the line to make sure the sewer isn’t collapsed great video very informational
