Jim Bob Cooter has been massively overrated ever since he started as OC. He got a lot of credit and benefit of the doubt after the team seemingly had a massive turnaround after Lombardi and Mayhew were fired halfway through 2015. But if you look at what teams we played in 2015 before Lombardi got fired and after, you see the turnaround was actually due more to the schedule getting easier than it was Cooter's coaching. In the first half of 2015, 6 out of the 8 games the Lions played were against Playoff contenders. In the second half, only 2 out of those 8 games were against a playoff team: the Packers. But Cooter took over a Lions team that had gone 1-7, went to Lambeau field, and won. Well, actually, he didn't win so much as benefit from a missed field goal by Mason Crosby. The losing streak at Lambeau was broken but history doesn't remember the asterisks attached to each game. But the bottom line is we were only able to salvage 2015 because we got to play a bunch of crappy and mediocre teams the second half of it. Then, 2016 happened. Again, we were able to get wins against the teams we should beat, but when things were on the line or we played a good team, we crumbled. In 2017, same thing happened. Not to mention 2017 we really SHOULD have gone 7-9 because if Aaron Rodgers had stayed healthy the Packers would have swept us rather than the opposite. But Jim Bob Cooter's offensive scheme has not proven itself ONCE. It did not "fix" Stafford, and clearly last night's game was an indicator of that. Besides, if Jim Bob Cooter was the guy to "fix" Stafford, why wasn't Stafford fixed when Cooter was the Quarterbacks Coach? This guy has had two and a half seasons to prove he can do the job and he hasn't done it. He's only ridden high on having a schedule conveniently weaken his second week on the job. Retaining him was a mistake. Hiring Matt Patricia was a mistake. Hiring Bob Quinn was a mistake. Bob Quinn is nothing more than Bill Ford reborn, because all he has done personnel-wise is hire people based on friendship over ability.

It’s October 24th, 2024. The Lions just lost Hutch in the game where we ripped the the spine out of Dallas in their own house, and then beat the Vikings right after. I don’t even have words to describe how unimaginable it is, after living through the Patricia era, that the Lions are the NFC Super Bowl front runner . Honestly, god bless Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes. It’s impossible to explain how grateful I am to NOT be THIS franchise anymore.. but I will never forget how bad it was. Cause I don’t ever wanna be ungrateful for how awesome it is now…

Mike, Haven't always been been a fan of yours. (M fan for 49 years, not old though) but was finishing your sentences today. I never saw this lack of effort on the field in the 0-16 season. The players must share some of the blame but you have to believe they had misgivings from the start. I don't know how one can say they quit on the team, on the Fords, and on their fans in that game. They simply never started. They never showed up at all. In nationally televised, Monday night football game at home, they did not care. Why should we?

I will continue to follow the Lions because I’ve watched them for so long now, but I cannot remember a time I was actually PROUD of the organization. #onepride is cute garbage. I agree that the players made a statement to their fans Monday night, from the moment they showed Stafford and the offense waiting on the sideline at the beginning of the 2nd half like people waiting for an elevator I knew we were in trouble. No heart-and I have to attribute that to Patricia, and wretched playcalling by Cooter (it almost seems like audibles are planned OUT of his schemes)

After seeing that trainwreck of a game I'm seriously worried this team may go 0 - 16 this year. It was that pathetic. If you'd have asked what I'd be worried most about before the game I would have said maybe lack of a pass rush or weak running game, but not Stafford throwing 4 interceptions and playing worse than a 21 year old rookie. Just terrible.

Everyone is panicing, the team quit on stafford when they were down by 31 and all the fans left. Stafford singlehandedly cost the game, if you want to say cooter did as well thats fine,because the play calls were garbage.

Fire jim bob cooter. He doesnt use the run game at all. He uses theo riddick for screens and any defense sees it everytime. Keep Kerryon Johnson in and give him a rhythm. He wont get 100 yards rushing with 5 carries. Plus why did we get rid of Ebron? He caught 4 for 5 passes and got a touchdown 26 yards deep and caught it effortlessly in Indy... we pay more for Ansah and he cant stay healthy.

Stafford and lions were a better team when the had a solid running game. Javed Best-Reggie Bush. Unfortunately both short lived. I remind people the Lions were a super bowel team a few years ago. Unfortunately the league let Jerry"antichrist" Jones steal a playoff win from the lions. The defence was as good, if not better than Seattle. That playoff loss devastated the lions. He makes alot of money indirectly for the NFL. Green Bay are the "teachers pets" of NFL officials. I shouldn't have to explain that to a lion fan. Historically the lions usually beat Seattle. The lions have to learn if your playing green-bay. You can never leave the game in the hands of those corrupt officials. Rogers will always get that call in the end.
