Great comparison and data. I have a 7800x3d and 4080 combo with an 34” OLED 165mhz monitor. Based on the data and types of games I play it makes no sense for me to upgrade (I paid $290 brand new for my 7800x3d). I’d only see a 3-5% increase in most games which I doubt would be noticeable.

I've done simulated 7600X3D tests with my 7900X3D and it basically matches the 7800X3D in most games, there are some specific games that make use of more cores, but most don't. I'm keeping an eye out for a deal on one though, may grab one at some point

Just upgrade over the holidays from a i7-12700KF to the 9800X3D, first PC I've built myself. Went from DDR4 to DDR5 memory too. So far, I'm so happy with the results. Paired with my 4070 Ti, the 12700KF was a bit of bottleneck even at 1440p since most modern games tend to have those CPU heavy areas (Balder's Gate city, open world game cities, RTS games, etc.). The 9800X3D pretty much crushes everything I can throw at it, letting the GPU go to full blast 100% utilization at all times, which is awesome since GPU ain't cheap lol, I want it to work for its price tag. There's also a side benefit to how powerful it is, increased raytracing performance (though I usually play with RT on) as it eats up some CPU resources so I saw gains in RT modes in Dragon Age, CB2077, etc. The fact that it doesn't buckle to the extreme CPU requirements on CB2077's crowd streaming system is impressive stuff. A lot of websites and channels yap endless about GPU being the most important part of gaming machine, but realistically...games are too complex to let any part bottleneck the others. Not to mention of course the extremes the chip can go to at 1080p, which must be sick for those with 360Hz monitors.
@pyurologie24 күн бұрын
nice upgrade, congrats! yes, especially with scaling and AI tech getting better and better, the GPU is obviously important but not as important as a solid CPU in modern games. Modern games require a massive amount of data due to their advanced visuals and mechanics. This creates a bottleneck because the speed at which data can move between memory and the CPU is limited. That's where memory bandwidth becomes crucial. Higher memory bandwidth allows data to flow more quickly, reducing delays and improving performance-making the 3d v cache a literal game-changer.
