Many common keyboxes are very easy to break open with a screwdriver or similar. I think the best use for them is as a delaying tactic: hang a keybox somewhere conspicious, with keys inside that don't actually fit any locks. Makes the burglar waste time and effort, increasing the chance of him being discovered and also increases the number of places where he's likely to leave forensic evidence.

I've known my landlords for over a decade and they have been in the business 3 times as long. In all that time they have not had 1 person pick one of their lock boxes. They have certainly had broken windows, door jams and the like but "smart thieves" have not been an issue. They also pay a LOT more than $15 to secure keys to 125+ residences worth from about $175,000 and up. But beware LPL has featured an electronic lock worth well over $100 that he was able to disassemble with a Phillips head screwdriver and a little hook to pull out the foam pads.

I've been in property for 7 years. I haven't had one of my key lockboxes opened even though they sometimes go onto screen doors and are very visible. One of the models used at work was featured on LPL and of course it's a Master Lock. Nor have my colleagues had anybody get into the lockboxes. Admittedly the properties I work with are usually vacant, little worth stealing. Squatters just smash their way in and bypass the lockboxes.

Fun fact, using the knife tool or some sort of thin tool with an edge at the end, you can slide between the body and the shackle and push down and wiggle to release the shackle, if you just want to remove it from whatever it is attached to, a knob or lever lock, for example, this way you can have the entire lockbox in your hand or on a bench to decode.

This is my first time finding this channel and now I've watched a few videos. The main issue I have: I would ask that the lock you are picking be put in a real life scenario. If this was on a door you would not be able to hold it like you did. Not saying you couldn't do it, bc clearly you can, but you would not be able to turn the lock upside down if it was on a door. So I'd like to see more realistic openings of locks in your videos.

Maybe the grooves he feels out for decoding actually get caught on something during the "scrambling" and tend to align because of that? Would be interesting to test a few more times including a controlled combination change in between to see whether they "remember" the old alignment or the new one (if any).
@playgroundchooser

Holy shit. You're right! 🤯 It's got to be a product of the mechanism, right? Because if my math is correct there's a 1 in 125 chance of that happening completely randomly.
@Photoloss
@Photoloss 4 жыл бұрын
@@playgroundchooser 4 wheels with 10 digits each means 10000 combinations in total. If we accept any arbitrary shift including the exact same code that's 10 digits we can roll through so 10 combinations. So the chance of obtaining a shifted code when all wheels are rotated independently actually should be one in a thousand. Fun fact: without a delay timer/lockout or a mechanical reset to make you lose count even an unskilled attacker should only take a few hours to exhaust all 10k combinations. Since the average will be half of that a Starcraft pro player might get it done during their lunch break XD
@Planky.
@Planky. 4 жыл бұрын
@@playgroundchooser I think it's more like 1 in 1000 - 10k combinations of which 10 are rotations of the original, including getting the same combination again. Maybe I'm missing something in the maths(?) very unlikely through chance in any case.
