Yeah, it's awd. Also, I've cracked the housing tube on those and got a new 4wd housing on the cheap. Works fine for awd, just plug the 4wd sensor hole. Saved $150. Think because the 4wd housing is more available.

Pretty sure that bearing race is designed to float. Via the bearing adjuster turns like on a 9” ford. Wouldn’t make sense to have the race pressed in. Just saying idk great video thx.

You know that disconnect sleeve is the weak link/ fuse in those differentials, I busted one before and was pissed however I replaced my sleeve with a billet steel sleeve but now I have no use for my two 9.5 front differentials with 4.56 gears because I did a solid axle swap on my dmax dually those IFS differentials I have will fit any 2000-2011 2500 and 3500 Chevrolet/ GM truck

You are right howev people want conveyance so the automaker gotta make it as easy as possible for people to put yhe truck in 4x4 so they will buy them. A lot of times, that system weakens the truck.

Please answer. I just bought a new 18. I am running 35" tires. Want to regear to 4.56. Where do i get front diff gear from? or do i buy tow rears and change them both out? I am unable to find any answer on this online. Perhaps you can help.

The front and rear or totally different. The rear will not fit int the front. There are many places to buy gears from. such as eBay, Amazon and many 4x4 type web sights online.

No. Just go on Ebay or Amazon. I prefer Amazon due to ease of return and 2 day shipping. Search for 4.56 gears for your year truck. A full kit with both front and back gears with install kits should come up

I have a 2003 Tahoe Z71 w/4WD and a Escalade 2004 AWD. Can I interchange front diff? And just add a switch on dash of Escalade? If so how do I determine axle ratios are the same?
@bluecollarhowto3489

The tahoe diff will bolt right in. As far as making the swirch work. Not sure. There are swtichs in the tcase that also have to be activated. Not sur how awd case woukd handel the frint diff disengaged. You could put doacers in the diff actutor to keep it ingaged. The gear ratio is in your glove box on the sticker with all the numbers. Most likely a gu6 or gt4.

@bluecollarhowto3489
@bluecollarhowto3489 5 жыл бұрын
That was to make a set up barring, to test fit for set up. That way they don't have to be pressed on and off every time you take it apart. And put together for set up. Once all the right shims or found and proper set up is confirmed then the new barrinings are pressed in. It's been a while since I did this video, but I thought I explained that in the clip.
@TheDerekmeline
@TheDerekmeline 4 жыл бұрын
@@bluecollarhowto3489 you did explain that and I actually have a full set of test fit bearings for multiple differentials and transmissions because sometimes you can tear up the bearings getting them off. Test fit bearings are the fastest and best way in not only my opinion, but every mechanic I've ever worked with, to get shimming set quickly and accurately. Of course you also double check wear pattern after new bearings are pressed on and I've never had to pull and repress a bearing using test fits. Some people either don't listen or they don't understand so you're in the wrong. Gotta love by-the-book fixing wrench turners.

Tundra's are now also aluminum. The reason for so much aluminum in drives trains has more to do with the government then the manufacturer. Its all about gas mileage. This is the same reason every truck now comes with aluminum driveshafts. a secondary reason is the lighter you can make the truck the better your tow capacity.

Why would the front diff on 99 and up Chevy need to be cast iron or steel? It's surrounded by a steel frame and brackets. The case only needs to hold fluid and gears it's not under any real heavy stress or heavy load.
