Hiya Danial. Looks great and nice to finally see a resin artist make use of Silver clay. I used to use it several years ago and thought about using it with resin, to add ashes to a pendent, but never found the need to at the time as I decided to mix a few bits of the ashes into the silver clay and encapsulate them into the finished pendent. Thanks for the reminder lol. Can I just offer a little bit of advice for future makes. The white "film" isn't actually a film or coating, it's actually the silver particles which are not aligned right. If you get a burnishing tool, Agate or stainless steal, and jus rub it all over the surface, then this will make the silver particles realign and will shine up beautifully. This can save you added time having to remove the scratches that the wire brush will leave in the silver, due to the silver being so soft at this high content of precious metal. Also like some said in your shorts video, you can do a lot of the filing before firing and as long as you aren't too rough with it, your piece shouldn't break that easily. Another important thing to say is to make sure the piece is 100% dry before firing, or the moisture will expand inside the silver and can explode and break the piece. Ask me how I know lol. The little super hot bits of silver can make their way quite far from where they started. Anyway, I hope this may be of some use to you or anyone else watching and I look forward to seeing what else you make next. All the Best, Diane, UK xx

A couple of things about the metal clay, you can rehydrate it with water and any dust from sanding the pieces before firing should be kept and made into a paste for attaching pieces together

Finally! 😆 I've been waiting for someone to do this. I've known about this silver clay for years (also comes in gold and copper I believe), pretty much since it came out. Having been working with polymer clay when it appeared on the scene I immediately knew it would be great for custom bezels and accent beads but I could never afford getting into it since I never sold my work, just gave as gifts really. Ever since I started watching resin artists on KZbin (because carpal tunnel has killed my crafting and I like to live vicariously through others like you) I've been patiently waiting for someone to use this art clay with resin but I was surprised that no one did. Until now! Thanks for that. You made my day. ✌️😁👍 BTW, the reason you were told to sand and shape the dried, unfired clay was probably because you can rehydrate most of the sanded off clay (if you use metal files that gets you the most leftover clay). Just add water until you've got a thick paste and use it in a mold again so there is no waste. The wet clay does take longer to set and can shrink more due to the water evaporation so more people like to use it like a glue instead (like slip when you work with ceramics/pottery or somewhat like liquid clay when working with polymer clay) but it's useful either way. Actually, you even use the minimum amount of water to create a very thick paste with either sanded dry or less than fresh clay and use a syringe or mini pastry bag to make some very pretty filigree work too, or you can use one of those deep embossing sheets/folders as a mold to get it done quickly if you can't or don't want to do it by hand. It could be very pretty if you did that and manipulated the finished sheet before it's fully dry into different shapes or drape it over things to get interesting shapes. So many possibilities! Thanks for sharing! ❤️

Some tips on working with any brand of silver clay - I agree with the person who said you can do more cleanup before firing! Plus, instead of wiping any of that precious, precious clay away with a paper towel, just let it dry on the mold and scrape as much as possible of into a small airtight pot (I use a clean film canister). Plus all the dust and bits that you would get from a good cleanup with an exacto knife, sanding papers, etc to make the piece as smooth and clean as possible pre-firing can go into the pot as well. Mixed with distilled water, you can get a nice amount of "slip" this way, that can be used for joining clay pieces together, filling in any empty areas, building up texture, etc. Silver clays ARE expensive, so the more you can save this way, the better! Once it's been fired, the solid silver metal is no longer able to be mixed back into clay form. It's a real fine silver piece at that point! And it will save your arm from getting tired in post-firing cleanup too. You'll still have to polish the white cast away to get a nice shiny piece, but won't have to worry about sharp edges or fingerprints, etc. There are also sterling, copper and bronze clays that are slightly less expensive than the fine silver clay for anyone just starting out. Each will have its own firing times and instructions. All metal clays can be worked just like any pottery clay too. The possibilities are endless! Not to mention therapeutic. Don't like how a piece is turning out before firing it? Smash it back into clay form, re-hydrate it and start over, or add it to your slip pot and start with a fresh piece.

Great tute and idea. However, you may be a little out on your estimated product amounts for the silver clay - it's approx 10% binder which is burnt away during sintering. The result is that you will possibly get 15x3g pendants if you are careful. Realistically, 13 or 14 because no one is that consistent. Dry clay can be ground down to powder and reinvigorated with water. Finishing before firing is soooo much easier....

Wow silver clay . I've done my research and I'm tempted. Again very informative and helpful and educational video. I also read you can add water to soften the clay if it gets a bit hard also read (sorry but health warnings incoming 🤣) you should wear gloves when handling the clay. But wow add to mold shape etc then allow to dry and then blow torch a very hot oven 👌. I think I will give it a try when I can afford it as £97+ for 50 grams isn't that bad but it's a investment if people like what I create. Also bit unsure on buying as people in the UK have been stung with custom charges plus extras (£20 roughly). Otherwise it looks great . Keep up the good work mate 🫶👌😉💪👍

Glad for the lesson with a torch. I've been wanting to play with making my own silver pieces without having to buy a kiln. Never thought to use molds to shape them.

Thank you so much for this video!!! I forgot about this product & am excited to try it. That is a gorgeous pendant. Possibly use pliers that have silicone protection to hold when polishing? Again so glad you brought this product to our attention.

I’m surprised you didn’t use a silicone tool to pack it and smooth it. Good job though.

Hi Daniel, I've checked out your Amazon Storefront, but cannot find the "half round" wire you use for wire wrapping or the tool you use to measure the oval molds to find the correct size bezel. Could you help please?

£72!! How do you afford all these wonderful things? I am making what I think I could sell but I’m too scared to put them up to sell because of trying something before & having no support. It was a completely different thing though, nothing to do with crafts at all. I need to find some confidence in myself again 😬

Ok, that’ll teach me to comment before I watch the whole thing! 🤦🏼‍♀️ So, does that end up being actual sterling silver? 😳
@daniel..cooper

It wasn't taken in a rude way 😊. I am an Amazon affiliate so anything I earn through that program, I use to purchase products to use 😊. It can be scary but sometimes you just have to trust and take the leap to sell, I also have tried and not sold anything. The final product is 99.9% pure silver so it is a higher quality than sterling 😊😊

Turn down the lights. Once white hot, keep torching 10 straight minutes. When it says firing schedule, it means a kiln. You need to watch a fee more videos before showing people the wrong way.
@daniel..cooper

Hi, thank you, I did try to block the light, I did spend around 10mins firing as I paused the video and also mentioned that the instructions have the correct firing instructions. I also mentioned that this is only my 2nd attempt and I like to show my progress as I'm learning different art 😊😊. I have a way to go yet but did say, I'm no pro 😂
