Makes you wonder why Honda or Kawasaki doesn't produce the 500 kings in the newer bikes. They would sell the HELL outta them, far too many want them, have had 2 and 4 strokes over many years and it's a back and fourth love affair they both have their benefits. Awesome other countries are keeping it alive.

@@999lazer Thanks for the blast from the past. About 12+ years ago I made my interest known to a local bike dealer, who was actually a friend of mine (at the time) After he showed me pictures of his forthcoming USA barn find imports. So I told him I'd give him a grand for a 1984 Suzuki PE250, which was another bike I adored from my late teens. When I went to collect it 4-6 weeks later, as it was arranged, he'd sold it. Beautiful bike, definitely worth the money! Problem with timed comparisons, while fun its not really comparable, there aren't any real 500 riders who are true 2 stroke riders left, even Bradshaw has too much 4t in him. I watch both of these guys for example, lines are the same, position cornering the same, its not like that on a 2stroke, 125, 250, 500 all have their nuances, gear selection, lines, track position, especially using the track to maximize the power delivery esp on a 500, typically you ride a 500 in higher gears to reduce wheel spin, torque and power is not an issue, you could tell on the jumps while the bike is balanced the rider is not front wheel up and rear wheel catching the lip, on a 2 stroke you push into the face of a jump, through your hips and drive into it, Cornering you want to carry speed but in a higher gear, why sometimes 125 riders of the past became great 500cc riders you don't wring it out like a 125, but you carry momentum in higher gears to maintain traction, but also to control the power, unlike a 125 where you are trying not to fall off the power, no that you cant go inside but to do that effectively and fast you need to be fit, strong and have great technique, they are all skills modern riders don't have, its not skill its technique developed riding 2 strokes, if you go back and forth and you are primarily a 4t rider you will ride like a 4t rider. Reducing time is not just twisting a throttle, its how you utilize it, if you do the same thing expecting different results you get poor outcome! Of course its all about fun and for most of us we aren't racing pro nowadays and cost, I ride for fun and I don't ride 4ts, have no interest in owing one nowadays, but its still a bike and still interesting to follow races, its not the same anymore, because the bikes can do so much for the rider, yes they have skills, different skills, but bike allows that, 2strokes require a higher IQ and skill imo, doesn't mean harder, its just a skill that is lost . Unless you can get a Mike Brown and even then he rides 4t stokes too often, it would be great to get a Dave Thorpe on channel to talk about this subject, because I think it is a fascinating subject, its something as a kid reading magazines about Hannah, then O'Mara, Bailey Johnson, Glover, Malherbe, Thorpe, Eric Geboers, Jobe etc etc always studied their techniques, to me today its not generally discussed esp during these comparisons, but is very relevant, because my partner can ride a 4t around, she cant race it, or doesn't mean she could, its a different animal, she couldn't ride a 500cc around or my YZ250, it scares her. But its how I developed my skills on a bike that and riding every hour I could, home from school and off out onto the tracks straight away, ride around the road 50m and on to the dirt, neighbors never minded no Karens, I didn't need Vanned or trailered everywhere. Thank gawd I'm not a helicopter kid of today, its not their fault its what we created for them. But they will never have that freedom and never experience the racing at all levels we did or saw or read in magazine about. For what ever reason the 450 class just does not capture the aura of what the 500cc class does and did in its hey day, it is what we have so we have to accept it, but its not the same regardless of their power speeds, E bike will dumb it down even more! Thank you to Tommasin and both these riders and Tim at Moto-X Workshops for doing what hes doing, lest we get to see something both modern and nostalgic that was always awesome.🤘

I've always criticized the fact that manufacturers don't take motocross engine design seriously. For example crf engine block is only slightly modified from the old two-stroke design. It's not the right way to build a four-stroke engine, it's a cheap and easy way. I have said that this could easily be converted back to a two-stroke. Good to have someone else do it so I don't have to prove it.

Kudos to all involved for publishing an outcome which is unfavorable to Tim's marketing of the T500 - this shows complete honesty, a quality which I have come to appreciate here on 999lazer! IMHO, big bore 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke on this track isn't going to make much difference, because the amount of power which can be delivered to the ground is limited mainly by the rest of the bike (chassis, suspension, etc). In tight woods, small bore 2 strokes have a significant advantage over 4 strokes. Something I wish you would address in your reviews is how well the test bikes fit tall riders. A skilled short rider can ride just about any bike fast, but a tall rider on a diminutive bike is hamstrung. Most available 2 strokes seem to be diminutive these days. The T500 looks like it would work well for tall riders - thank you for making this video 🙂

It has a lot of room in each gear and the video sounded like it was barely being revved out which -that- 2-stroke is literally made for. It was being ridden like a 4-stroke and it 4-choked. For once I don't agree with Sean. When he says if Honda built a 500 this would be it I'm just not on the same page. I love the idea of this bike but when it comes down to it its an engine conversion. The chassis was designed and built soley around that 4t - which is why its very well balanced and all the parts/systems are calibrated to make it as good as it can be. When you simply drop weight from the top of the engine, change the power curve, throttle pick up and fuelling completely, all that goes straight out of the window. If Honda built one it may use that frame. However if they took it seriously it would look and behave very differently. With the lower weight and less bottom end it simply doesn't need as heavy a frame or as large - which again plays into that stiffer/lighter circle. In the same way the gear selection would be different, tc mapped differently, suspension set up would be different and all the rest - even down to it not needing as much starting juice allowing lighter components. There is probably a 10+kg difference in what a real factory developed bike would be and quite a noticable difference in frame size/shape. Then there is the price. £18k after tax? Imagine the BRC based nutterbike you could build for that. Or just look in your garage...

I learned to ride on 2 stroke off road bikes, they are easy and cheap to maintain, I love them and am often on the web looking for street legal cr500's. Until I find my dream bike I will stick with my KTM superduke R

He's lugging that CRF450, in too high of a gear through most of the video. That guy looked like an amateur rider on that bike. I think he was scared of it, in all honesty. I wonder how the infamous 1986 CR500 would compare to these 2 bikes? I remember riding one of those CR500's back in '87, when I was 13, and man it was wild!! I've also been on a CRF 450, recently, and they are surprisingly quick and light feeling. Plenty of power. Very unlike any oldschool 4 stroke I've been on. I love the looks of both bikes here, probably prefer the sound of the 2 stroke, but like the powerband of the 4 stroke. It powers through, but you got to have it in the right gear.

Great job on video! Absolutely beautiful bike.. In your opinion, which has more power that Honda 500 or YZILLA?

Hi Lee, we have a video coming soon where we compare both our BRC's (Kong & YZilla) with the T500 where all your questions will be answered :)

I think it'd also be real cool if Tomasin made a similar package for all Honda's 250s. I bet they'd be selling like hotcakes, much more accessible too, since the 250's are cheaper to buy and 500 2 strokes are well... 500 2 strokes.

Just over 14 grand and the welding on that exhaust is shocking.
