He’s angry that the figure is stealing his memories of 2B, which turns into 2B. 2B was constantly killing him and resetting his memories, so she really was the one stealing and destroying his memories. The machines were taunting him about 2Bs true nature as 9S’s executor.

This makes Nier even more sad because none of them realize that erasing one's memories is essentially killing. You never get that person back. You don't get time back or the circumstances to make those same memories with that person in real life. That person's mind goes into the past and makes the same mistakes again. This is 9S's fate and he is perpetually stuck in his original infant stage whenever he expresses his hatred of machines despite all the Nier characters gaining consciousness with different identities. Pods question whether 2B and 9S will make the same mistakes and conclude that is a possibility. But if they restore all their memories after salvaging, then they won't repeat their mistakes. They'll remember YorHa betraying them and it doesn't exist anymore. 9S being the superior analytical model, will finally see the world as it is and find a purpose outside of their original programming. He will meet A2, repair her and she can show him how to live in this world without humans.

The curse or punishment is ironic because it was 9S and 2B's wish, all the way back in Drakengard 3 to be reborn to meet each other again...and again...and again. The two of them are stuck in a never ending cycle of death and rebirth because of a pure wish they made back so long ago.

@@Mord12gp Emil(9S) was a dragon and 2B was a girl called Rose. When dragons die they get to make a wish. Their wish was to be reborn and to find each other in their next lives. Except it didn't stop at their next life or the one after that... The Luna tear was sent back in time by the androids to prevent the wish, by making both immortal but things did not go according to plan. The Gestalt project also split their souls into Yin and Yang copies making 2 of each additionally 1 male and 1 female a Replicant of each. So at one point in time you had 6 alive. It's all very interesting when you look into the lore and then play the games.

@@ericneo2 That's what I kinda like about Yoko's work. He always adds on some more craziness. I'd love to see what he does next, maybe a new timeline, one where the machines launched the probe and we see what happened to it. Maybe over centuries it gains intelligence before crashing onto a world and making humans and other lifeforms. Or over a milina it gains mass becoming a new planet and the rocks and trees it makes are memories of earth. You would have mountains with rocky outcroppings in the form of skyscrapers, or a tree that's bent to look like a light post .

I don't know if I'm wrong, but I need to confirm something. First, the location of the towers in the game, the first one is in the Forest Kingdom where the soldier's dialogue takes place - in the anime in the sunken city, the other one in the sunken city - in the anime in the desert. The last one will be in the amusement park or will they change it? Also the attack of the machines in the game is the same villagers killing each other, I would have liked a little more explicitness. The Halua reference could be another reference to Lilith from Evangelion. 9S is not consumed by the watchers. 9S never laughed in japenese dub. English dub changed many things. That's why people misunderstand many things in NierR. Red girls were in his memories in that scene. 9S also have memories of his past selfs. His memories are mixed and complex so he said all those " mine mine " only mine " things. It's got nothing to do with watchers. Just a referenece guys.

@jackgerambo I wouldn't say he is wrong about the cult of the watchers. The mana that spilled over into the nier world changed the world drastically as we know it. So it may not be exact cult of the watchers. But there are references clearly to them. There were many different religion on cults founded after the June 12th incident. And yoko taro confirmed that the machines found a lot of these religious cults in the servers. So I do not dismiss the ideas of the cult of the watchers ish type of cult in the nier world. Wouldn't be the first time humans made a cult.

You are understanding it wrong. 9S found the truth of black box and immediately refused that. He was hurt by the truth. It's the real life discrimination, upper class, cast, lower class, that is shown as 9S here. Also, 9S is not like what novel or English dub made him with that laught in the game when he destroyed that core. Red girls are messing with him. In the weapon storis, Red girls said They want to have 9S, for that they will do ANYTHING to get him. Also, being insane in love is not bad. 9S & 2B had only each other as a family, friend, etc. They are not just lovers. They are their worlds.

Which is part of yoko theme with the yorha. They are blinded from the truth. That has no changed. And 9S is blind to what is in front of him. And also I'm not sure I agree with the 9S isn't like the novel. We don't know what he is thinking in that moment. It's up to interpretation. But if it's anything like the cult of the watchers. Like it seems like is being referenced it isn't healthy. But I wouldn't say someone understanding is wrong. Because like I said a lot of what you just said is up for interpretation. I just gave based off what is available in the lore that we have.

9:59 9S is not wrong. This androids machine discrimination is like Humans discriminate with robots in many si-fi stories but then the main character finds are he/she is also a robot, not human. Androids(Yorha) were made with humans memories and initially machines didn't had emotions. They were just killing tools. It's the Bee-pee who gave machines all those emotions. So 9S treating them as nothing and then not believing it is so general for him. He's just a image of a young boy afterall. Also, it's explained that Yorha were made from machines, not like resistance andoris who have AI minds. Yorha was programed to die so they had this discriminative thought of using machine core to make these yorha who will die anyway. It's all part of Yoko taro showing Real Life Discrimination and reality of our society.

At this point, the story will gets even more darken. I loved the puppet show, (even more after the detail of "ai-ai gasa" on the last Episode, confirming that 2B had romantic feelings for 9S. This detail made me very emocional) But the puppet show cured many bad and sad feelings arround the episodes, with humor and cuteness. The story is getting to the climax, and is Very important to the people not soften this emotions...... I will miss this puppet show. 😟 I wish for an independent puppet mini-series show about all the NierR series. (Just like "Agressive Retsuko" shorts) Besides that, May the passwords is about 2B's feelings? I think that 2B was completly forgotten after her death. Bring her feelings to the climax could be nice. For me this 3 androids are the protagonists, besides A2 is the singularity of this timeline. And i have a little an personal theory about 9s' infection: Even in game or anime, i do not think that he was infected at all. I think that 9s was corrupted alone by the grief and pain of missing 2B. The virus growed alone in the 9s circuits by this pain. But this is only an personal thoughts about it Ps. I read grimoire Nier revisited, and pearl harbor descendent manga. I will run for this long/short novels. Thanks for the video. I was getting many infos and sneak-peak about the episodes of the anime in the twitter. But now the twitter is blocked in my country.

2B always loved 9S. They are not just lovers, they are family, friend and the whole world to each other. Also, 9S is not blind and evil now or ever. 9S is suffering with all his past memories. I think 9S think so low about machines is because he was told his entire existence that they have no heart, etc. It works similarly when you teach someone from their young age that "those people are bad", they're not even humans". The more I think about it, the more it reminds me of those men in uniforms from Western Europe.
