100% - and the biggest mistakes, in this order, were: 1. Extending Gatland’s contract beyond the WC. 2. Re-employing Howley. I was GUTTED to see Howley addressing the backs at HT. No wonder our attacking ply has completely died since the WC.

I thought Ben Thomas was superb - the improvement from game one to game two was astonishing. If he can keep on a similar trajectory, he’ll be a treasure for wales. Lake, Griffin, Jenkins, Botham all very good. Lloyd was superb in the loose - some insanely good tackles, but not a thrower right now. Botham did so well - smashed it. Not effective, but so busy, and that’s all you can ask. Dyer try was weird to watch - where the F has that been for the last year??! I enjoyed it. It was heartening. About all we can ask for as Wakes fans these days.

Hi Christian overall I think, for me at least there were more positives than negatives, when you look at the experienced players missing, sure I heard the comment made that 1 aussie alone has more caps than the entire Welsh side! I agree with most of your comments but think I'm happier with the future than before this tour
I truly believe this team has a good future. The never say die attitude this young Welsh team showed should mean something to us all. I understand the negative points completely. These are young players that are short on experience and confidence but they have the attitude to not give up. I think the attack was improved with Grady being allowed a bit more space and wales finally were able to score some tries that didn’t come from a maul😂 I don’t think watkin is up to international level. Just think if that line out in the 75th minute and wales would have probably scored a try from there and gone onto win the game. It’s a horrible learning curve but this is what it takes. It’s a bad situation yes but it is what it is.

@@Lukesummers94 the positives are that wales are starting to develop that attitude of never giving up. They have found a good weapon in the driving maul. They finally scored a try through phase play and they’ve found a few really good players on this summer tour. Also look at how young the team is compared to South Africa and Ireland. A lot of the starting team for South Africa are in the early 30s. A lot of them won’t make it to the next World Cup. Etzebeth, kolii, PSTD, pollard, Faf der klerk, mostert, kriel, dellande, Kolbe, le roux and many others are over 30 and will most likely not be able to play international rugby in a few years. A true masterclass on how to lose a game of rugby, presented by Gatland and the Wales rugby team! The only positives were Griffin, Lake and Botham who all 3 were outstanding, not much else to say about the rest other than the consant basic mistakes and penalties given away. We don't seem to adapt to the oppostion like Australia did, 2nd half they sussed us completely at line-out and defused our main threat and after that we had no awnser. So yet again another day and another game gone with nothing but dissapointment and frustration written all over it as we haven't progressed in 10 games now. If this was NZ, England, South Africa in the same position as us they'd have sacked Gatland before he'd have left the stadium. There's no excuses to hide behind anymore and that's the hard fact the WRU need to accept, it'll keep getting worse if they don't do anything and the game will eventually die off in Wales. There is only so much the fans can take, and it's making me depressed to see how far we've fallen

I thought that you couldn't have asked more from the boys. The endeavour was outstanding 1-23, but especially typified by the atittude of James Botham. There's a Lions tour going to Australia next year and with Nika Amashukeli in the middle any away team shouldnt hope for too much. Dyer took his try brilliantly fair play, a real wingers finish. The Welsh set piece was good on the whole fairplay to Jon Humphreys. It's a pity that the best available players in Wales weren't picked for this squad, and it's unfortunate that thec 25 cap rule has robbed us of players like Feyi Woboso and Jack Hawkins. I also wonder what Sam Davies, Rhys Patchel or R oss Moriarty might bring to the party🤔. I dont think that we can hang our hat on driving line outs. Against the likes of Ireland England or South Africa it's not going to bear as much fruit. And against sides like France, New Zealand and Fiji it's simply not going to be enough. If we could work out a game plan that suits the players available, pick the best players in their positions.......and play them in their actual positions. Reward regional form with an opportunity to compete in the squad, and therefore encourage competition at domestic level. Scrap the 25 cap rule, build ststems in attack that utilise deception and a variety of options using distribution and runners off the ball instead of one domesional telegraphed one up carries. If we could carry on developing youth whilst also allowing experience to create a strong transition........you never know......we might make a fist of it. Let's be honest a country our size is never going to be world beaters, but we coukd at least try not to handicap ourselves. ...............that lineoit that hit Cory Hill in the hip.........can't help thinking that it would have been nice to have a Sam Parry there.

I really just want him to stop picking players in their best positions because at the moment he’s trying to put square pegs in round hole and that one of our biggest issues

As an Englishman I can't help but think both the Welsh halfbacks and centre partnership are really not up to standard at the moment. Grady may well be a very good 13/ wing in the years to come but I just do not see him as a 12. Possibly with a ferocious pack you could get away with it but with so many injuries and ineligible players, it it did seem to let you down. I think a better lineup would have been Costelow at 10, Thomas at 12 and Grady at 13. Then again, I dont watch the URC as closely as you boys do Not all bad news for you lads though. I think the scrum was much more competitive than many feared it would be and the attacking maul is very dangerous. Lake may well be a B&I Lion as well. (Oh, thanks for Feyi-Waboso by the way. On Nick Tompkins; he picked Wales despite him being born & bred in England (& he qualified on Welsh ancestry) - and because he was fed up with waiting to get an England call up. I disagree, and Feyi is not a fair exchange & a very sore point. Completely different to Nick as Feyi was born and brought up in Wales - and had played all his Rugby in Wales before signing for Exeter because he didn't get into Cardiff University to study medicine. The WRU messed up there big time by not supporting the player with his University Application alongside furthering his Welsh Rugby ambitions - and they've admitted to that. Not England Rugby's fault, but it was far from a fair exchange, and I wonder how long he'll last in the conveyor belt there before he's ditched for an-other 🤔

Reffel was ineffective because the backrow balance is all out. His takle count is high because for all the flashy stuff plumbtree isnt doing the donkey work that a six needs to do. We need a Lydiate type to allow reffel to go for the jackle. Grady is really poor. Costelow and ben thomas should be 10/12 combo to play 2nd 5/8th option which would give us width and guile. Liam should make way, hes mistake ridden and a penalty machine. Buoyed by Griffin and lake tbf, both outstanding. Mistakes have been a mainstay of this team since gatland and co came back in, so for me the mistakes is a coaching issue at this point.

@TheWelshSportsPodcast4 ай бұрын
I feel like generally they have been good at developing young talent. When you look at the relative success Wales have had over the past 20 years we punched above our weight when you consider the player base of other countries It’s not to say they haven’t failed certain players of course every rugby set up does but I think as a whole they’ve been pretty good As for those other players like Dylan Lewis, ect. They left more due to many reasons than maybe developing their abilities. Jarrod Evans wanted to stay in Cardiff and they just simply couldn’t afford him. Mann is a product of Cardiff but you’re right we don’t produce a whole lot of depth at prop hence brining in Griffin. What do you think?

I think it does generally come down to funding and you have to think some of these young players who would be thrust into week week out performances for the regions would have before been probably learning behind more senior player and then when they come into the team, they’re 100% ready I think, though you have to admit players like Lake and Morgan look like they could be genuinely world-class in a year or two. Also Tomos Williams is one of the best scrum halves in the northern hemisphere. These guys all have come through the regions so we start developing guys but it’s hard to give them the individual coaching they need when the money is simply not there for the extra coaches. Interesting question though we could literally have an entire episode talking about the ins and outs of this 😂

It's not an international set up problem, it's a coaching issue at club level and lower. Sanjay, Gareth t and reffel are the only players from the starting 15 vs Argentina n only 2 from the 40 point win over the aussies. Australia had 3 players in the 15 from that game. The gap in quality should be pretty obvious. Lions tour next year n from today's 23 man squad, there's no argument for any of them to go (lake possibly the exception but still needs to improve his line out for this level) used to be a case for alot of Welsh players to be included but not now. Skill levels are miles off. Can see the Scottish having more players represent the lions the way things are going.
