You know what would be fun? Do a Nuzlocke of any Sinnoh game, then see if your surviving team members can beat the Master Battles in this game.

I spent so much time invested into this game! I nearly cried when I finally beat Mysterial’s legendary team in the post-game because 9 year old me was struggling so much lol I was forced to learn about EVs, IVs, strategizing, etc. I really wish that we could get a game like this for Gen 9 or 10 (with all mons available, even if it means having compatibility with Pokemon Home). The difficult level and how so many enemy trainers actually implemented tactics was so cool to see! It made completing the game all the more rewarding! And in theory, you can complete the game with just rental Pokemon. In the post-game, challenging Gateway Colosseum lets you trade mons on your rental pass for ones you defeated during the challenge. And every time you beat the colosseum, the rank goes up (and the mons you can obtain are much more competitively viable). Plus, Mysterial’s legendary team is slightly less threatening because 1. He uses Cresselia instead of Dialga/Palkia and 2. Having both Kyogre and Groudon means that his team isn’t optimized for one weather condition. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone playing in this mode found an Abomasnow or Snover and just brought that for fun lol

This was one of my favorite games! The graphics still hold up, the animations are so lively, and the music is awesome. Did you know you can shiny hunt in this game? I'm pretty sure rental passes can have shinies, but also, the trainer outfits! If you reset to get a shiny trainer and then defeat them, you get that outfit! Same if you defeat a normal one, which locks you out of the shiny variant...

That final battle was really hard and took many tries for me but I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one that beaten this game with just rentals.

15:06 you actually don’t, I’ve been doing it. The Gateway Colosseum where you’ve been getting rental passes is upgraded (either just when you beat Stargazer colosseum, or when you beat it and get all the rental passes). After that it becomes a trade battle for rental passes, after every battle you can swap one Pokémon on your team for one on the opponents team, and if you beat the colosseum you get to keep them. Keep winning until the colosseum increases in difficulty (I believe 8 is the highest) and you start getting pretty decent Pokémon. It’s easier with your own of course, but you can do it with rental passes.

Kind of a Spoiler Warning i guess: the Master Battles are also designed around what teams you use aswell It uses a diffrent set of Pokemon depending if you use Rentals/Trades or not and if you're not using rentals it depends of on the version you Pokemon came from!

I played this game a lot- I bought it thinking it was gonna be the next game in the Colosseum/Gale of Darkness storyline. Truly heartbroken that it wasn’t

Man. I only played this way after it first came out, but it’s still fun. And I only did it with the rental passes. You can even shiny hunt on it, I’ve currently got a Dragonair and a Snorlax

The battle mechanic went to a downfall after this game’s release… should have kept this shit in the later games … the battle effects are more realistic and the Pokémon has more emotion
