While Grease Pencil is intriguing, i gave it an honest try, animating two little scenes in it and it was just really like animating with a tractor. The thing i love about Toon Boom is the speed at which i can animate, especially with selecting lines which is just a key stroke away. The constant mode switching in Blender is pretty horrible, the 3D environment can get confusing, the timeline is finnicky, the fill tool is glitchy, etc. etc. And when all was said and done i got rendering errors as well. Toon Boom let's me animate at the speed of thought so at the end of the day, it will always come down to UX > Features. Also the one thing TB got right from the very start is their amazing brush engine. I have a vector pencil tool that seriously feels like a bitmap brush but with all the convenience of working with vectors. The thing about 2D animation programmes is, that the target users are often times inherently non-technical so learning a new tool takes a lot of effort. Grease Pencil is cool, i'm glad it exists and there's amazing stuff being done with it but when push comes to shove, it just is not enjoyable to use (to me). The one thing however that i can't really argue about is the ridiculous pricing Toon Boom has implemented over the last few years. They used to be extremely indie-friendly but now they kinda became the Autodesk of the 2D space...

I'm a grease pencil user but the only thing keeping me out of ToonBoom is the price. Grease Pencil 3.0 is coming and hopeful they'll fix Some of the ease of uses issues. It has alot of potential to be a TB alternative and industry game changer

So from what I understand, toon boom harmony is just blender combined with opentoonz
@KrunoslavStifter Жыл бұрын
Hmm. Once again Moho is left out of the recommendation, why? Its perfectly capable, a lot more affordable than Toon Boom Harmony and more suitable for animation than Grease Pencil feature in Blender. It may not be ideal for everyone or everything, but it deserves to be included in this comparison because its a proper contender.
