You've just gotta love Jim Jefferies. He's intelligent and funny, relatable and a great story teller. For what it's worth about the LGBTQ Community, as a 60 year old Australian gay man, I don't personally feel the need to belong to a collective group. I'm my own man, but if other people feel a sense of comfort in belonging, then I support them.

I was shocked when I bought gasoline at a gas station by my friends’ home. They had a security cam. As I paid, I could see the top of my head. For the first time in my life... and I had a bald spot! Who the hell knew!!?? I told the clerk and she got a laugh. And I laugh every time we drive by the place. What can you do? Enjoy the ride. 😉
@christhornycroft36869 ай бұрын
To be fair, Jim is right. I support them all too, and I think they’re crammed together because sometimes it’s hard to separate gender preference from gender identity. I’ve known several people in my life, great people, who came out as gay (male and female) and later came out as transgender. Obviously, being gay isn’t a gateway to being trans, but in a society in North America that represses a lot of things for silly reasons, it’s not surprising that until recently because there were no supports for LGBTQ people, figuring out where you land on the sexuality and gender spectrum was probably tough for some people. I’ve never had that issue, but I also didn’t choose to be straight. But I do identify with Jim on hating the body I live in as a disabled person, if I could fix my handicap and grow a bigger 3rd leg, I’d be happy. In that sense, I can sympathize with transgender people and hopefully treat them like the human beings that they are.
@HG_Budde9 ай бұрын
Exactly, I'm all for stopping that LGBTQ thing, discard of the nounnifications (yes, that's a real word) of adjectives describing your sexual preferences: "I am lesbian (amongst other things)." instead of "I am a lesbian (and nothing more).", which instantly turns it from "a small part of your person" into "THE defining part of your person at fault for making anyone think of you even when only mentioned.", which is highly counterproductive when you want to convince some group of old and bitter people that your two interest groups have more in common than not.. 😅 We've tied up our own hands by doing the exact same thing we accuse the society of doing to us: cramming our kind into tiny little boxes and devising a system to allow every box to only be a certain way if they don't want to get kicked out of their sub-community. 🤦🏼♂️
@Mutterschwein9 ай бұрын
We're crammed together because it used to be that the majority of society are against us, and we're pretty much just all seen as the same group of sinful dege-ner-ates. But I guess in western society where it's more accepted now you can start parsing and then integrate just normally into society. But for places that are very much more anti-gay/trans than the West, it makes sense to stick together.

Trans-women aren't women and shouldn't invade spaces that feel safe for women..for examples, trans-women shouldn't participate in women's contact sports as it's dangerous. They should also have separate rest rooms and go to separate prisons..no matter what you try do to physically become a women, you'll never be one.. you'll always be a trans-women. There is nothing wrong with that, but don't push society to view you as women.

You should watch "Steve Hughes: the straight gay men, and gay of straight men". Steve Hughes was Jim's housemate in London, they did comedy together but Steve never quite took off like Jim did. It’s a sad thing that loss of hair is seen as a deficit of masculinity in some way, yet the hair loss as a woman is seen as something undeserved that has befallen her. That said, comb-overs and bad wigs don’t offer men “having hair like everyone else”…but a good hair piece, or a nicely shaved head, or attractive headwear…all of that should be all good, IMHO (52F, Perth, Australia - included for relevance.

As a gay dude who likes other gay/bi dudes, I can say: Yes! In the beginning, when we were a tiny minority and had to become bigger and bigger, it made sense. Because it literally was "straight vs. different", but now certain things are technically publicly accepted now and some aren't. Having them lumped together with the current struggling groups just holds them back.. It is important we support each other as much as possible, but we need to break up the group into smaller, more refined groups with specialised goals and demands. What do I as a gay cis man know or about the struggles of a trans girl or even "just" a lesbian woman? 🤦🏼♂️ The LGBTQ community was never meant to be a physical group, but the symbol for holding together in the fight for fairness in "The fight of the straight people to suppress and be able to blissfully ignore everything Queer". But eversince the first, what we would call today, "hetero cis person" decided to support and accept us, that one has been over - a long, long time ago. Now it's time for "accepting vs. intolerant", "openmindedness vs. bigotry". And that one knows no sexual orientations.. only the plain old "social vs. antisocial". 😅
