@@alexadame7389 you’re probably not still looking for an answer since this was 7 months ago, but clip studio is probably fine as long as you know your way around the program cuz most of what he’s doing can be translated. As for the chromebook, as long as you can play an mp4 on it it’s fine. But I would recommend getting an external storage thing if you don’t have a lot of space on the chromebook.

Same with the state of the world right now, I can’t really afford to spend that kind of money, just an fyi around the holidays and Black Friday I believe his school is half off? Or has some type of discount, I wanted to buy it then, but got scared because I was worried I wouldn’t learn or wouldn’t improve. This video helped me a lot as I’m sort of in an art lull I’ve improved as much as I could by myself and am struggling with anatomy.

I really appreciate you sharing this, I was gunna get it last year but hesitated because of the hell I went through in actual art school (most of my profs were belittling and not supportive and left me with some trauma I’ve been working on) and also I was just worried about investing in this and committing to it. I know he has a sale around the holidays and I might snag it up, but what’s holding me back is the state of the world right now. I’ve been very strict with budgeting and saving my money because of inflation and a soon to be recession. He well deserves the money and has amazing content on KZbin, but I’m in a hard place right now. I’m trying my best to self teach anatomy and grow more artistically, but I feel I’m in a lull. I was able to relearn the fundamentals in a much safer and sustainable pace with KZbin and my own projects, but I struggle with backgrounds and human characters.
@MangaMikeLee

Thanks for sharing all of that. It’s definitely difficult when you have people who are consistently making you feel bad about the work you do… not sure why some people feel that is conducive of growth and learning. So I do apologize on their behalf for you being treated poorly. The strength of Marc’s program is the flexibility you can do it at your own pace. It is also VERY thorough in almost every aspect of the word. You can also pay for sections of the program so you don’t feel like you’re breaking bank all at once!

I just only have one problem with this course & that is not having a dedicated section for line refinements, Shapes & Form & Construction . I am not talking about the Anatomy where he showed Human construction in details, but the general construction like Forms, Forms in perspective, Drills or Exercise to improve it. May a some drills with Straight lines & Curves line, some fundamentals involving Dynamics Sketching. He talked briefly about in at the beginning of the first module of anatomy , but a dedicated section would have been better. like he did a video on 30 days challenge to improve your drawing. Even that video in just an elaborative manner would have been much appreciated. otherwise, Anatomy, Perspective, Gesture, Color theory, Light & Shadow, Composition, Design Theory, he was as detailed as one can be. + the dedicated section to Photoshop, Zbrush, Nude figure sculpting, Animal Anatomy, Character Design, Mech design, Prop design, Environment Design, Matte painting, Graphic Design, Illustration it can be as extensive as one course can be.

I would agree! I do think that some of the earlier terms could be revisited. I think that he would probably agree to some extent too which is why his weekly guide includes some of his KZbin videos. The 2 things that I would have liked more in depth classes on would have been stylized faces in perspective, with emotions included. Then what you are asking for as well which is drawing the body in perspective. He goes over this a little in the 2nd perspective class, but it probably needs its own term in my opinion.

@MangaMikeLee Can this art course also be of help for traditional new artists as well? So, I'm not exactly starting at 0 since i use to draw hideous pieces back in art class in HS (i just have absouletly no structure,practice,or full basic knowledge of art theory) I'm now 27 but all i've seen from reviewers is this is worth the value, but what if i decide to follow along with pencil/pen until i feel satisfied in my sketches to where i'm able to buy the desired tablet/ipad to return to complete the related terms. How many terms do you think can i complete/grasp in before investing in one? or would it be wiser to just start drawing digitally without paper knowledge/EXP.
@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee Күн бұрын
Definitely a lot of great questions here. So be sure to look over the list of courses/terms, but I would say you could probably do about 70% of the material without a tablet or screen. There are a lot of courses that are specific to software but the fundamentals can all be done on paper. As far as the amount of terms you can reasonably complete, I would say probably up to about 6-7 with again about 20-30% of the courses not being applicable due to being a traditional artist.
@lizardltd
@lizardltd Жыл бұрын
I think that the real insightful question, that is also harder to answer is: will a year of this course get me further than another course, or compared to watching videos online and practicing a lot, or even going to an actual art school? I never doubted that his course could help people, but will it help anyone more than the other options? Is this the best value? Would you have gotten to the same point without this course but by investing the same amount of time into books and just drawing?
@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question and my answer is no. I will say that is just me and I’m sure not everyone would benefit from this course the way I have or other people because people are different. The difference between this and traditional school is the cost. Spending 30-40k per year (for U.S. schooling) is a lot of money to maybe succeed at something. Especially because a lot of schools don’t focus on digital art as much. I also attempted to learn by myself, just looking up random videos piecing together books etc, I probably spent more on that than the school and I’ve improved more in the past 1.5 years than I did in the previous 3 years of drawing combined. The main difference imo is the structure and the quality. Looking up vids and books and trying to piecemeal it together is difficult to do when you are struggling to figure out where to start. This school gives you the path to success. Again everyone is different but that’s my take!
@clovertales5197
@clovertales5197 Жыл бұрын
No it isn't the best. Your improvement solely depends on you. I'm already 8 months in his course, watched his videos up to leg anatomy and haven't touched anything (for 4 months now). Art is a progressive profession/activity. It doesn't happen in a year or so. In contrast, this is still achievable IMO (proven and tested) but YOU need time here, lots and lots of time and DEDICATION if you really want to see results in a year. What I like about this course is that it has its own community (well everybody has, still), the feedback you get from your colleagues and sharing your progress in the forum. Do I recommend joining artschool? heck yeah.. Having more people means more fun which is great. So good luck and always don't forget to have fun in your art journey 💯

Even though you have 1750$, the feedback option is always out of stock for now. I think there is a huge line of people who are waiting for it. So, you can only watch his streams to look up for your topic to hope you get new info for you. I've been doing his program and still all depends upon you and your time to dedicate. I wouldn't say that there is something unique in the course, just a compilation of youtube videos everyone can find here. But if 500$ is not a problem for you, it's definitely worth it. But if your country is out of good economy, then you should think twice.
@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee 10 ай бұрын
Yes the feedback program stopped about 6 months ago. But I do disagree with you on your second point yes you can find a compilation of KZbin videos that would cover some of the topics but the uniqueness of this program is that you get everything you need in order from start to finish. But yes the point of having to dedicate is correct and true about anything you do. Appreciate your comment and you opinion! Happy drawing!

@@MangaMikeLee the only real complant I have about his program is the photoshop (Only appers in term 1) wille it is usefull if your not most people buy a corse to learn to draw so he would need to put som much into photoshop specely when programs like clip studio don't have enogue resorces to edit photos. I is a nice tuch to get used to tolls in the software that you will use but if you came to learn to draw, photo eddeting is not most importatn but some excersise like maching collor and images whit level, hue, color balanc is nice excersies to get used to difrent collor thones and observing images. To me personely he just spends to much time on photoshop in term 1 it could be cut in 1 week but he did say you could do whatever you want. so yeah my only complaint is photoshop could be cut into 1 week rather then put in 2 weeks.

Could I use a stylus? Should I or do I have to own photoshop or another program? Are there any other additional fees? Like a required subscription to cubebrush? I have a low-end $400 laptop, would that be enough, or does the class require you to do complex renders? Or anything else you could think of. I have been thinking about taking his class for a while now. I would so greatly appreciate the help. As a bonus for answering I'll tell him you helped me get there. Thankyou very much

Haha you don’t have to say anything to Marc I don’t get commission or anything 😊 thank you though! I appreciate you supporting the vid and asking questions. So while there are classes that you won’t get much value from if you aren’t working digitally, you could do the first half of this entire course (maybe even the whole thing) with a pencil and paper. But if you want to learn digital art here is my suggestion: Don’t use a mouse to draw, at least have a tablet/ipad/display tablet/pen display of some sort. If you have an iPad you won’t need a computer. If you want to use a computer then you’ll want one capable of using clip studio, photoshop, or one of the free softwares like gimp. There’s no subscription to cubebrush and the program is a one time fee, unless you want multiple years of feedback from Marc. Also I will say this might end up being a little pricy for you so the real question is how serious are you about your art. If you want to be a professional someday then see it as an investment. That doesn’t mean to break the bank because you can learn to create digital art from a pen display (tablet without a screen) that is professional quality, but that does mean you shouldn’t feel guilty about doing what you feel would help.

Will this art course also be a help for traditional artists as well? I currently prefer pencil and paper over digital. It just feels like i have more control
@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee Жыл бұрын
I say yes! You definitely can get a ton out of the course as a traditional artist. The only part that you will want to figure out is how to use light boxes and things of that nature when creating final products! Some of the courses also just won’t be applicable at all, particularly the beginning courses.

@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee Жыл бұрын
The blue lines would indicate where you currently are in the video if you are watching them on the site. If you download them then it won't show up. The feedback is a separate thing, you can buy just the program OR the program with feedback (there is also an option to add feedback later if you just buy the program now). The feedback happens live on Facebook, if you look at his KZbin Channel the really long videos are cuts of the feedback he gives to us, they are just from a year or two ago. There's a whole process for when you get the feedback on how to post and stuff, but that gets explained to you via email when you buy it.

Great questions! I firmly believe art is a learned skill not just a talent. Yes some people are naturally a little better than others but that doesn’t mean you can’t acquire the skill. Also I’m 29 myself and I just got the program a couple years ago. It’s definitely not too late if anything as long as you put the effort it you can learn and develop quicker than younger individuals!

Will Marc fix my bad art if I buy this class? Can I ask him anything I don't know? And where can I ask him directly
@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee Жыл бұрын
That’s a difficult question to answer. If you just buy the course you won’t get feedback from him you also have to buy the feedback portion. If you decide to do that he will help you learn in areas that you need help in. Instructions on how to submit for feedback and things of that nature are included in your purchase. But you shouldn’t go into it just asking things randomly because he will refer you to different courses and tell you to work on fundamentals. You want to make sure you work hard on the courses and bring specific questions to the live stream that he gives feedback on.

@@MangaMikeLee good I'm drawing everyday and to be honest I don't like any career that you have to go to school for. like everything seems boring to me. I'm working part-time right now but I literally went through all the possible careers at the University and they're all boring nothing besides art inspires me. And I follow business and trading and things like that I make a good amount of money on the side doing day trading. And a lot of the really wealthy people they don't suggest going to school anymore because you're going to get yourself into debt and there's no guarantee that you'll get a job and a lot of people hire you even without the degree like my friend when school be a nutritionist for 4 years and the guy gave him the job anyways and he said he didn't even care about his degree he only got the job because he knew a lot about nutrition and he already knew about all of that stuff before he went to school

@@MangaMikeLee yeah art is like the only career where if you put in the work people can see that and if you're lucky companies will even reach out to you. And with schooling the way it used to work you go to school you get a job you save up and you retire when you're 60. according to a lot of financial experts now that doesn't work anymore everything's like way more expensive now. And a lot of people say if you're not studying something like a lawyer or a doctor or something you can pretty much learn anything now online or through reading books so you're kind of wasting your money getting a degree if you don't need it for like a very specific job because a lot of people hire you now without the degree

@@MangaMikeLee also going to Art School not like online art school but like paying to go to an actual school to learn art isn't really worth it a lot of schools don't teach you any sort of fundamentals they assume that you already know everything like I went to an art school and I didn't learn anything. It might be different for like more expensive well-known art schools but art school isn't like it used to be like in the Renaissance where you would study under a master and he would teach you everything art school now is more about building up your portfolio and like learning how to advertise and stuff then actually learning art it's basically an advertisement till so people see your work and you get hired by something in the industry

@MangaMikeLee
@MangaMikeLee 8 ай бұрын
Appreciate the post! The one thing I would recommend is to just spend all the free time you can doing art and trying to get better. You can try to push through his weekly assignments quicker but I’m not sure if I would recommend that. You can become a good artist in a year but it’s really hard to work for one year and become a professional in that time frame. Though this is a bit of tough love I would say to try to not put as much pressure on yourself to be great right now and be patient with the process. The faster you try to learn art the more likely you are to form bad habits and those set you back more. If you’re serious about art and want to be a professional artist practice every day with Marc’s guide, feedback from others and maybe try to find a mentor and that would help you become better more quickly.
