More of Mike doing actual mechanic work, not just bolting on new parts. Great stuff!!!

Nice job Mike. Fair play getting those brackets in the exact place as if they are out the axle wouldn't be square to the chassis.

When i did mine i made a split tube bracket that clamped around axle tube and lined up with bracket holes before i cut brackets off. Bit long winded but worked 😊

I've done the same with the cup washers on the shock mounts. I found that the shock had been loose and rubbing a oval hole for quite some time. The rest of the mounts were in good condition so the old cup washers came in very handy.

Yes they work well as they allow the shock to be centred again and allow a smooth base for the rubber to 'flex'

As you know Mike, I had to do this very job on the trike axle....the YRM brackets are very well made and substantially thicker than the originals....and like you I found the lining up of the brackets was a bleedin' nightmare!

Great job, Mike. It goes to show that you can recycle parts if you have to.

I've welded beads of weld over the axel like that before. To build it up. But on a 90 rear rover axel. It warped really bad. I didnt realise at first until it wore out the rear tyres. I took out the halfshafts and diff. Then had a look thru the axel. I could see the warp.

Yes - it is quite simple to correct

Presumably, pad welding the opposite side will draw it straight again, but if you do two separated runs within the pad area and let them cool before doing the next adjacent passes, so the heat that you do put in is minimised and dispersed, will that reduce initial warping in the first place?

I realise the Salisbury axle is an upgrade on the standard axle , but what are its advantages please Mike ?
@BritannicaRestorations

The differential is a lot better - bigger and more robust construction - it is the DANA 60 type. The pinion is longer and more stable, the carrier is a 4 pin HD type - they are almost indestructible The hubs and bearings are pretty much standard RR/Disco/Defender types

Good job Mike but is it really worth spending so much of your time doing something like this that I would not have thought many people would be doing themself.
