Wonder for how much longer. As spinning drives are getting replaced by solid state, this is not a good biz to start now (it was great). Unfortunately SSD's are more difficult to fix than spinning drives.

@@BillAnt probably for a good bit longer tbh. It’s still miles cheaper per gigabyte to store data on an HDD
@BillAnt4 ай бұрын
@@thahrimdon - Yes of course large servers are still using spinner, but even that is just a matter of time till it gets replaced with solid state. Probably will last for the next 5-10 years. Regular consumers pc/laptops virtually all are using SSD's now.
@thahrimdon4 ай бұрын
@@BillAnt I still doubt it. In general, hard drives are currently more reliable and don't have a write capacity like SSD's, even though the "reliability" is so insignificant among all the factors of modern SSD's, it's negligible. When setting up for redundancy in a RAID array hard drives reading and writing certain types of data will barely perform slower than SSD's due to the RAID controller as the bottleneck (don't quote me on this). They're also are much safer for data recovery allowing you to recover what's left of corrupted sectors and such, which is harder for flash storage (e.g. wear leveling, etc). I don't see the price per gigabyte ratio for HDD's to SSD's getting any better. Lastly, for large amounts of data, SSD's will *most likely* ALWAYS be more expensive to some degree, and if all you're hosting is media files than can be easily servers on a 7200 RPM drive, an SSD is essentially useless in comparison. All of that isn't to say we'll *never* migrate to SSD's completely, it's sort of like the electric cars vs. gas cars debate and how there will be use cases for gas engines for the foreseeable future unless a breakthrough occurs. Just my take.

Watched this 3 times in a row now to bring up the view count. Best part is when the lady enters. All 3 times I begged for a new Rossmann channel twist involving a 2024-style handy man being subdued by a lonely lady who noticed the lights in the workshop were on late one evening, and saw a man inside working with extremely delicate fingers... What can such delicate fingers do for me, she thought while knocking the glass entrance door...

I was looking at the prices my college charges for various tech services, and it’s insane $20 to install up to 2 programs $50 for virus removal $50 to install Windows $100 to transfer data from one device to another Meanwhile Rossman’s repair shop is just teaching you how to undelete files for free. If my college even offered that, they’d probably charge $600 for it
@rossmanngroup4 ай бұрын
Those prices are insanely cheap. 90% of the time that you're transferring data from one device to another, you are going to spend 45 minutes dealing with somebody who asks where their Outlook email is and why their desktop looks different.
@tpd1864blake4 ай бұрын
@@rossmanngroup LOL I forgot that most professional tech support is geared toward people who have no idea what a RAM stick is. But still, $50 to install Windows when I can do it in 20 minutes with a spare USB feels like scam to me. And they don’t even have data recovery as a service. Does your shop have any problems working with systems that use Linux? I’ve heard horror stories about repair shops wiping the data and installing Windows because it’s “unbootable” or refusing to install a new keyboard on a laptop with Linux
@gaspumprepairservice70094 ай бұрын

How much do data recovery services like the ones shown on the video cost in the US? I live in Argentina and I don't know if there's someone here who offer these kind of services. I'm just curious if these data recovery services are directed to end consumers or if they're expensive in a way that only companies can afford them.

But the pc-3000 portable is sooo damn expensive... 7000 - 12000 dollars is complete madness.
@Hal-Gas4 ай бұрын
As much as I agree is expensive, but if you look at what you can actually charge per each recovery, even though lat assume you do one per week, 52 in a year, if you charge $1K per recovery you have your investment repaid and your profit in one year, or 12 jobs it will repay it. BUT if you do not do many recoveries, then that is an issue.
@rossmanngroup4 ай бұрын
It's incredibly cheap if you contrast the price of that piece of equipment with the amount of time and education it would take you to reverse engineer the firmware on all these drives from scratch.

The LED blinks likes its trying to do something but nothing happens. If I'm explaining that clearly. Should i let the drive run overnight...?

and the Startup Repair tool doesn't seem to get anything accomplished. If unplug the drive the computer boot as normal and everything is smooth going.
@incandescentwithrage4 ай бұрын
Startup repair is for the OS drive, so that won't help you. Sounds like the drive is dead or dying causing I/O retries (making the computer seem slow). Stop using it and give it to a tech if you value the data. If you don't value the data, just replace it.
