This had me in tears. Steve is just a wonderful human being. The whole community seems so loving about the bears, just a great example of people showing humanity to all creatures. This was thee most beautiful touching story ever....I have been (non-incident) afraid of bears my whole life...and this brought me to tears....that poor bear....was just doing what she thought ...and was taught...she needed to do to survive...even when she was being sited to be shot...she showed no signs that she did anything wrong. I know that sounds simplistic....but it goes much deeper. I see and feel your hurt Steve....you are an amazing man, and I love you for your love and protection of nature. I love all of the people involved that needed to do what they had to do. I remember Steve working with this bear when it was young. It broke my heart that she had to lose her life because people encroached on her territory. She'd been through a lot and when her cub died, that was true mourning on her part. I admit it, I cried like a baby when she was shot to death. It shouldn't ever have to come to that point. I don't understand why they didn't allow relocation into an area without human population.

What a sick world we live in when humans who already have one home elsewhere, go to Mammoth & other wilderness destinations, for their "vacation" cabins of course built right on top of Blondie's & the other wildlife homes, running out the wildlife, yet the humans get to live & the hungry animals killed. OMG...At some point, I hope a more advanced race than us, does the EXACT same thing to us for how we treat the natural world...Beyond disgraceful. @@jer6162 I'm laughing at your response, because you wrote that to someone who lives in a 100% small log house in the forest, who can live 100% self contained or on the grid, has wolves, bears & everything else around the house & used to be a Park Ranger/Officer in Northern CA & CO. And no, I couldn't live in a concrete jungle either. My point was, that the bears in Mammoth & elsewhere in wilderness areas are dying because humans have moved into their homes wanting to live in nature, but then when nature impinges on their comfort & lifestyle, now nature must be killed & it's a true travesty...esp. when the homes are luxury or 2nd homes. (No different than what happened to the Native Americans.) I saw this all the time in Steamboat Springs, CO & it's beyond sickening. People can't be happy in small & only one, but are driven by ego for more & more & bigger & bigger & the wildlife suffers. Just my opinion of course.

What a truely wonderful ans devastating account on Blondie's life. I'd love to see more of Steve's life in his efforts to try and teach these beautiful creatures for the benefit of their safety; and teach people for the benefit of their safety. My heart broke when the Sargeant shot and killed Blondie. And to see the kindness of her (the Sargeant) when she was wiping tears from her eyes, and when she was apologizing to Steve... man, that was really moving. I've always been an animal lover. So I understand how both Steve and that sargeant (probably the rest of the town) felt. Seems like all the people in that area LOVE and RESPECT the bears. And that's just a wonderful thing in my eyes.

I must admit it makes me cringe when people treat wild animals as lap dogs, I don’t understand why folk want to feed them human food, it’s food that they don’t have access to without stealing it, it’s like disabling the animal to rob them of their ability to feed themselves without them going to Walmart. They might as well shoot the bear and save time.
@nathaniellollis3868
@nathaniellollis3868 2 жыл бұрын
I can't "like" or "dislike" your comment, Jennifer. I know that some people want to and DO feed the animals. At the same time I'm pretty sure NOT ONE OF THEM WANTS the animals to break into their homes and steal their food. It seems to me that people are caught between being "kind" to the animals and being "ignorant" about the nature of those animals. The intention seems to be ALL good. At the same time "intention" without knowledge will ALWAYS end in disaster. Anway, I DO understand your comment. It's really heartbreaking to me how people act and react to things; not taking into consideration the "long view" of the reprecussions of their actions.

What a shame that she had to be put down. They did everything they could to avoid that outcome though. Sometimes there’s just no other choice. Seems like nuisance bears could be trapped and taken out into the middle of nowhere away from people. They could also use tracking collars but then again batteries don’t last forever. Although I do understand that they could just become someone else’s problem and even hurt or kill somebody if they continue searching for human foods.

What an amazing story. The Animal Rights cry babies will have nothing to say about this bear being shot after years of Steve and the other Rangers and Police trying to discourage the bear from breaking into cabins, destroying the interior, and possibly threatening the safety of the people that live there. In most cases, bears are not aggressive and usually run off when they know they are outnumbered or know they could be shot if they don't run away. The main thing that people have to recognize is when a Black Bear is Stalking you or your group as Prey. There is a big difference between a bear foraging for food and quite another when a bear is going hungry and decides to attack people. In that case, the Bear MUST be killed immediately. Fortunately I have never had to shoot a bear or any other animal that I encountered in the wild. I hope it stays that way. There are several books about Bear behavior that are worth reading. Educate yourself.

I understand that bears that have gotten into the habit of going into peoples’ backyards, or homes unfortunately either have to be chased out or put down so that no one gets hurt, but where are these animals supposed to go when we keep taking up more of their habitat? It’s too bad that the entire public doesn’t have extensive knowledge about bears like the park ranger in this video. Maybe then there would be less negative bear/humans confrontations.

What a bunch of crap. No reason this animal could not have been trapped and relocated. Idiot property owners, they love nature till it acts like nature. It’s sad when government gets involved. Ever reach, over reaction.

If you had listened, you would have heard it said that State of California DOES NOT have a relocation program. They get trapped and euthanized.
