Shame they are the only characters excluding one other character who appear in multiple games in the series, most other characters are either referenced indirectly or directly mentioned
@kereminde2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewjones6583 More than one, actually. Aside from the direct connection of "Origins" to "Ys 1&2", there's some through-threads. Space added for spoilerish things. There's a recurrence from Ys 1&2 in Ys 6, a recurrence from Ys 6 in Ys 7, a recurrence from 'Memories of Celceta' in Ys 8, with 'Oath in Felghana' being an outlier in there being no direct recurrence I'm aware of... other than hints at the origins of the demon. For indirect references, you have the Eldeen civilization which were precursors to humanity. You have as well, the early human "Clan of Darkness", who kinda wound up starting things eroding and trending to ruin. The Romun Empire (and their rivals in Altago) are a consistent presence in the world. (Not well, Altago is an analogue to Carthage much like Romun is for Rome.) I'm sure I'm missing things because I'm not a completely savvy person - I have not yet played Celceta, Monstrum Nox... nor did I ever check out Kefin. (I understand a character from that game was recurring in Ys 6, but... can't attest directly.) Of these games, Ys 8 is another strange outlier in how the story develops into the third act... it gets WEIRD, yet still winds up feeling like a Ys game. (Trying to fit it into the overall franchise, however... hoo boy.)
@andrewjones65832 жыл бұрын
@@kereminde Played Monstrum Nox, definitely fits the whole adventure and mystery vibe while adding gothic themes of medieval France, and the character development is pretty good too like with Lacrimosa of Dana, Kefin I haven’t played either, kinda hard to get the game considering it never received a localization so I never considered it canon especially since it didn’t match with Terra’s age that much, until past games are directly mentioned and referenced in Monstrum Nox

I had so much fun with it that I, after totally NOT crying at the ending, went on to play AND FINISH Ys 7 after about a week of playing after school nonstop. It was pretty dang good, for being a psp game I thought it'd be kinda short but BOY WAS I WRONG! Now I'm currently playing through Ys 8 with about 80 hours invested so far (most of it from me just looking around at the environments because oh my GOD this game looks amazing!) and for being praised as the best in the series its REALLY living up to that title. Can't say if it's better than 9 just yet but its amazing nonetheless. Once I finish 8 I plan to finish EVERY Ys game before a new game gets announced, and with summer about to start I'll have all the free time in the world to do that. I'm looking forward to playing the older games and seeing what Falcom has in store for the future of Ys! Edit: As of February 2nd 2023 I have finished my last game (Ys V) and completed the whole series! Man, what a ride lol. Now, let us wait for Ys X !!

Rare and best gaming experience since a long time. Yes it's a masterpiece and it's the proof there's no need to be a AAA game for that. Falcom studio is awesome.

If you look on the Ys map, I think you'll find Esteria is actually either the equivalent of Jersey or Guernsey, off the coast of France (Gllia). Yes, those islands are "English", but it's not England. Also, Memories of Celceta is also on PS4.

ARE YOU A WIZARD?! I *just* started Oath of Felghana on Steam a couple weeks ago and had DLed that and over half the Ys series there from the Golden Week sale. I also played Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys and loved the music in it when I was a kid, so getting into this series is a trip!

The first game in this series I ever played was a monstrum Knox and I just end up picking it up last week and felling in love with the game so I wanted to know about the whole game series and I think I just opened a can of worms

I've had the chance to play Ys 8 because it was one of Nintendo's test games, where you have the chance to play the game for a week. That was my introduction, and now I have to wait a long time because the game isn't on sale anymore and I need to buy it on the Switch because I've come so far already. From there I started Ys 6, but then decided to start Ys 1 and 2 because they were cheap on steam. I'm just asking myself how I missed out such an amazing franchise for such a long time. Ys fans must be one of the luckiest gamers, every game seems to be a win for them and they come out quite regularely.

Only got into the Ys series in the last few weeks and it baffles me that this franchise isn’t much bigger.

Ys 5 is one of the best and the only one that has yet to get a translated copy in the west besides a rom hack. With how heavily 5 was talked about in 9 while also alchemy being the major factor for the main villain in 9 which comes from 5 means we may be getting a remake of it as the next release.
