I also used this "blower" when starting a fire in my fireplace to move more air. It works great getting a good fire going. Better bellows or blowing.

Pretty cool. Thanks. I got a couple air mattresses that came with free blowers that take 4D batteries. I don't hand load but I might ad some tubing for when I try different factory ammo on occasion. Not as cool as your mini blower but still cheap and they blow a lot of air.

I bought and have tested this contraption. It works well for me here in Houston, and will speed up load development considerably. One improvement I made was to cut the base of a case off above the wall taper and push it into the hose. This increased airflow down the barrel and keeps the hose from falling out. Thanks for this one, DD.

ANKER power bank ran me way more than $28 on Amazon. All cost tallied I was in the mid 50's BUT........this little blower DOES move some air! No regrets DIYing this barrel cooler. Over 2x the air movement, longer operation time, for less $, plus multiple usage of power pack, it's the winner.

Did you click on the link in the description (as indicated in the video)? The Anker power bank was $28 when I made the video; now it's $31.

I switch a few years back to air mattress / inflatable blower, also have silicone hose on but a thin walled brass tube approx 3 inches long at the chamber end does not restrict the flow and makes it easy to fit in the chambers from 223 to the magnums. Most hobby shops stock brass tubing of various sizes that will fit snug inside the hose. I like the usb battery pack more than my 12V setup. Greeting from South Africa😊

Would have never thought of using an acrylic hobby paint dryer for this application. I'm all the way up in Canada. It's almost impossible to find the magneto speed or its predecessor, the riflekuhl. Especially for a decent price. And battery life was always a concern. I've literally used air mattress pumps in the past when doing load dev and testing during summer months and hated it just out of respect for others on the local range and the size of the unit. Thanks for this tip. I literally ordered one right after seeing this. Under $20 CA to boot.

I use a battery operated pump for a air mattress and works great with the hose set up. I measured the temp of the barrel with a laser thermometer and it cooled it down in just a few minutes. Down side is the D batteries. But so far it’s lasted several trips to the range.

I’ve done this same setup but with a portable mini air mattress inflator as the blower. I like this USB blower better I think. A tip is if your range requires a chamber flag between sessions you can put yellow tape around the length of the tube. They are satisfied with this at my range and they are sticklers about using chamber flags.

Things have come a very long way. In the late 1800's the buffalo hunters shot with multiple guns and when one got too hot they would just"throw it into a snow bank" to cool it off. This came from an old book I have on buffalo hunting...

The true test of its value as opposed to the other will be how long does it last. It is much louder, but folks should be wearing ear protection on the firing line anyway. Both could work while the firearm is "racked" during ceasefire times, but your setup would be less likely to drop out while racked. I could REALLY see the benefit of a cooler during a prairie dog shoot as well. One could also make a manifold that could cool 2 guns about as fast as the Riflekuhl would cool one, since you had a whole meter of tubing.😊

Great idea,I will be rigging one up asap.Maybe only inserting the hose to the start of the chamber instead of right up to the bore would also bring down the chamber temp better to avoid cooking the round?

A little modification would make the blower send more air down the barrel. Remove the black tapered tube, measure the outside diameter of the exhaust tube and buy that diameter hose as that will be the inside diameter. Cut the hose so you can stand the rifle on its recoil pad and the blower can sit on a table next to the rifle. Now you will move more air than with the tapered nozzle would give you, just make sure to keep hose length to a minimum. This will remove as much friction as possible from the system….. remember hot air will rise so muzzle up will cool the barrel a little faster …

What if you got one of those lunch box size ice chests and put some ice in it and set the blower in it? Of course you would have put it in such a way that the melting ice didn't get the blower wet. Also maybe a little longer tube.

@desertdogoutdoors1113
@desertdogoutdoors1113 6 ай бұрын
After a couple shots with a sporter profile hunting barrel, you will experience POI shift. I cool the barrel back down very close to ambient temperature when zeroing or shooting groups for accuracy nodes during load development. The only accuracy that matters with a hunting rifle is a cold-bore shot. It takes about 3-4 minutes between shots with this barrel cooler to bring the barrel back close to ambient temperature. For target or competition rifles, you shoot "sighters" or "foulers" and shoot groups with a warm barrel, but you can't let it get too hot or the POI will shift again.
