Major pentatonic is probably the most commonly used major key scale, so it's a good place to begin with scales.
But even if you're already familiar with the scale, this lesson will go further than simply showing you fingering patterns. It shows you how to apply the scale musically and intuitively.
The process outlined in this video and on the lesson page will help you to develop your improvisation and composition skills, so you'll know how to make music with the scale instead of wandering up and down aimlessly.
Be sure to get your backing tracks, exercises and diagrams on the lesson page...

Hi guys. For those of you who are more advanced with scales, I appreciate this lesson may be a bit "back to basics". However, the beginner-intermediates need love too ;) I try to cover as much as I can and have neglected these initial stages for some time. I'm already working on the next part which will be of more use to those who are already familiar with what's covered in this lesson. Thanks for your patience and support.

fretjam It's a great lesson. By far the best lessons I've ever seen. I've been playing for years and, believe it or not, I don't know the notes. However you'd never know if you heard me play. I visualize the neck and I'm able to hit the proper notes. This is from years of playing. Now, with your lessons, I'm determined to learn the proper way.

Cheers for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for mastering guitar scales without the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate after many years got astronomical results with it.

Excellent Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (Sure I saw it on Google)? I have played guitar since the age of 7. I'm now 52. I joined my first band at age 12. I have always learned by ear. I noticed through the years that when I played with someone more advanced or more practiced in an area I hadn't messed with that I was able to sort of copy what I saw them do and I would improve myself by playing around with what I had picked up from them. I started to learn theory a couple years ago but lacked discipline. I work 10 hour days and have to upkeep my home and yard and deal with a lazy wife who doesn't see anything wrong with being a slob. Oh! Did I say that out loud. Yes? Good. Anyway, I have to deal with other selfish people as well. It leaves me little time to really study and work with what I desire being guitar. I can play like I know scales. I can improvise like I know theory. But if someone like yourself tries to talk to me about music, I'm lost. I found your video and for the first time I finally understand what a triad is. LOL. No one ever explained it to me. Now my desire to learn is back. I know that my wife and her brother will sense this somehow and quickly try to kill it. They do it with such ease. I will continue to try to rebel against their dark pessimistic over shadowing cloud. Thanks for the video.
