Wholeheartedly agree with this perspective. Haven’t bought a game on release in years and it feels great. I’ve enjoyed so many games not even that old this year for dirt cheap or free. To me this is the definitive gaming experience.

Agreed! Especially on the patience. I can't understand the "buy, wait for sale, never touch" scale. EVERY game is wait for sale at best. 70$ is a ridiculous standard price for any game. Besides, the release version will always be the worst version of the game. Why pay more for a worse game? Just wait for a sale and you'll get better performance for a lower price.

Yeah, you also can play almost any game with help of "black flag" services. No need for waiting

I sometimes miss that release day hype when you know half the world is playing the same thing.

Too many games nowadays. So many games are judged before they are out and it destroys the excitement

Wtf this is a really good video - 300 views? It's about to blow up. Keep it going! Subbed

Thank you for your perspective. It resonated with me and I enjoy listening to other gamers what they like and how they feel about the hobby. I also almost never buy something on release day. But I also agree that it is fun to get hyped for something. When the planets align you have a great hype phase and when the game releases it's also a critically acclaimed milestone. In my life that was for example: Ocarina of Time, Pokémon Red, Super Mario Galaxy, Skyrim, BotW.

Uh BOTW plus switch all on the same day was perfection!

I don't remember the last game I bought digitally on release/at full price (I've bought a few physical Nintendo games over the years on or around release, and even then I usually waited a few days for any potential first day patches).

One thing to take into account, despite it NOT being the consumers' fault, is that investors will evaluate a game's success on its initial sales. Just like Netflix and co, they will absolutely abandon a game if it didn't sell well in the first week. Which is a shame, considering the current economy of people NOT being able to afford games as frequently. Now for indie games, this won't do much. But for huge companies, like says, Square Enix? They will absolutely kill a game if it doesn't sell well early.

@@ofnir123 yeah not great. There’s also games that seemingly do good but they still can like Hi-Fi Rush…

Maybe over time the nature of game sales will be understood differently. I feel like it's becoming more common for people to wait before buying even if they knew they wanted to play a game before it even launched. In the past most games had the vast majority of their lifetime sales in the first week or month, but that might be changing nowadays. And for some genres it's actually very different (strategy games like Paradox games have a very long tail of sustained sales thanks to DLC's etc). I would imagine that investors would in the future realize the potential for returns past the initial launch period. But that's just wishful thinking I guess

@waveplay3978 I want to agree so bad. SO bad! But investors don't see it that way
