I'd say the biggest related verse is Acts 1:26 "And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. The apostles didn't feel qualified to decide which person should succeed Judas, so they let lots decide. But they didn't characterise it as a random choice. Rather, it was a way for the Lord to let HIS preference be known. If there are contentions that prevent an agreement being reached among humans, it's probably a good thing always to seek to know the Lord's preference. In fact that might be the right approach even where there is general agreement. "For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom", after all (1 Cor 1:25). But using lots to do it is probably best left as a last resort for when all other approaches have failed.

Martin Gradwell I agree I have always heard that Lots was used to determine God's will when they had no other way to discern God's will on the subject. Proverbs 16 33 "The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD."

The way I see it as Flip the Coin, bring someone into the Conflict that will not pick sides, and will bring resolution to the situation!

I have an interesting video idea with this, make like a long video commentary of the movie Captain Philips with this in mind and apply it to both perspectives the Pirates, and Captain Phillips. The Biblical Way to Deal with Conflict from both perspectives.

So what about an asymmetrical power dynamic with an abusive manager who absolutely has no sense of moral obligation to treat his employees with respect or dignity? So far this is on resolving conflicts between two parties of equal power who still intend to be good faithed and not predatory

It isn't random. It's God deciding for you.

How about using the KZbin algorithm to resolve disputes? It would probably benefit the cats

Love this. I know a church that separated over rather to send money to a missionary or update very old carpet for their local mission work. Both great God seeking intentions, but it tore the church apart.
