I agree with you. I don’t really like the 3861 updated version either. And also I have other reasons. The discontinued model just looks so much more classic. I also tried the new Speedy on the bracelet and in my opinion, it looks and feels cheap. I would always prefer the 1861.

There is absolutely no problem at all. Been wearing it for a year with both tight and loose fit. No pulling, no scraping. It is just great.

I love this channel - but I own a new Speedmaster and the edge being too sharp is overblown. It’s definitely finely cut, but not a razor blade that rips your skin. Feels just fine!

Having own one since January 2021, I must say the new bracelet wears very comfortably, and suits all sizes of wrists. The edges on the lugs and new bracelet do not cut skin at all. I have both c1861 and c3861 Sapphire sandwich models, Somehow I wear the new co-axial and master chronometer c3861 with a lot more confidence. The price increase is totally worth it.

Big fan of your channel as well as the Speedy! Having owned the new moonwatch for a while now, I can say that this case/bracelet most certainly does not irritate my wrist. I guess it comes down to the curvature of people’s wrists or skin sensitivity. You’re absolutely entitled to your opinion and I love disagreement for the sake of debate, and you definitely know your stuff! However, it seems a bit slanderous to imply it has the quality of a knock-off. I still support you regardless!

Yes i have recently bought the 3861 sapphire with the bracelet. It doesn't iritate my wrist and i can find them hard rounded but not sharp, it only occurs to me when i deliberatly look for it

As a very happy owner of the new Speedy - I can attest that those edges on the case are sharp. However it’s of zero consequence while wearing it - that part doesn’t touch your skin - it sits well off it. The bracelet however, is not sharp - I’ve been wearing it daily for 3 weeks and haven’t once noticed a sharp edge?

I just tried the watch I’m wearing (a cheap DIY watch from a kit where you assemble the watch yourself) and it felt crazy sharp, like you could cut yourself if you pushed hard... but I’ve had the watch since July 1st and have never noticed or had a problem before. I think this is one of those things (like the rivet bracelet on the bb58, new bigger size of the sub or lack of anti reflective coating on some watches) that you think could be a problem. But it’s not.

I’m wearing my 3861 most days. Simply because I love it. The sharp edges is a complete non-issue unless you have a huge wrist. I am an average sized person and the curvature appears almost custom made to follow the curvature of my wrist. I have noticed the sharp edge exactly zero times, I repeat, Zero, nil, nada, zilch. I don’t notice while wearing it, not taking it off or putting it on. I notice the sharp edge ONLY if I purposely check for it. I would happily buy exactly the same watch again. I respect your opinion and watch your channel regularly with great enjoyment, but you’re most definitely up in arms about a non issue. Even if the design is arguably a bit on the knife edge sharp side, it’s definitely still a Go.

This was definitely a helpful video for me. I was kind of between the new speedy or a Tudor Black Bay... not exactly the same price point but it was always gonna be one or the other. I’ll still try on the new speedy at the dealer when I get the chance. I’ll look out for this fatal flaw and determine how fatal it is for me.

I picked up my 1861 in July 2020. Really pleased with it. I brought it with the Omega factory leather strap. No issues with sharp edges for me !!

So great you can do this with your daughter. She's a great videographer! Fantastic! Unfortunately bracelets have always been Omega's achilles heal to me. I have a 300m and just can't wear it on the metal. Rubber and Leather straps for my Speedy 1861 and SMP because of that.

I have noticed that the Seamaster 300m from 2018 is also very sharp around the case and bracelet with my fingers, but during wear I didn't have any problem of cutting or anything like that. I recently rebought a new speedmaster 1861 and I also noticed that case, bracelet, and clasp is sharper than the older models that I had previously(though not as much as the seamaster), and I didn't have sharpness issue except on the sharp little logo on the case back that really scratched at my wrist when I wore the watch way too tight. But wearing it properly sized fixed the issue, so no real harm there. Personally the general feeling I get from good craftmanship is getting the feeling like you are experiencing the object in HD because everything is a little more crisp, well defined, and there are sharpness to the little details. That was the feeling I got from the sharpness of the new Omegas. It's like a completely smooth well mirror polished knife edge type of sharpness rather than rough micro tooth of the factory sharpness in knives, if anyone is into knives. Not saying the Omega edges are any where near that sharp, but the feeling is like that.

Appreciate your honest review! I do have the new Sapphire Moonwatch and I don't notice any discomfort or skin cutting 😅. Maybe it's because of my smaller wrist size... I do notice it's sharper, however the new models (like the Seamaster 300m) seem to have similar sharpness of the case edge. Perhaps it's because the case back is slimmer so it rubs on your wrist. Anyways, keep posting more videos, I always enjoy them. Wish I could visit Venice again!

After this video, when I went to a boutique a few months ago, I checked out the 3861's they had, and I felt for the sharpness you discuss, and I definitely felt it. It wasn't cut my wrist, shave my face sharp, but I could see validity to what you are discussing. It wasn't a deal breaker for me. I am going to guess Omega may have addressed it since. Just picked mine up on Saturday, I am not finding any sharp edges on mine like I felt in the boutique months earlier. It also arrived with the new toolless comfort extension which I love. I'm wondering if it was perhaps batches?

There is one thing Rolex almost always gets right. Their bracelets feel wear like silk and can be worn extremely comfortably. Anyone that says bracelet comfort isn't HUGE factor in perception of a sports watch doesn't understand the luxury watch market. They make or break entire watch brands.

I have the new speedmaster hesalite. I don't have the same issues "scraping" on my skin. It's my first speedmaster. The back case "lifis" the watch and the sharp lugs don't touch the skin (look at the cross section of the watch). The steel bracelet links have an edge but does not scrape my skin.

Interesting comments about the edges of the watch being sharp, the Railmaster that I picked up from my local OB last year has a sharp edge where the bezel and case join. It doesn’t take away the enjoyment of the watch but it wasn’t what I expected from Omega. I’ll keep my 1861 Hesalite and enjoy that for the foreseeable future.

I bought my 3861 Hesa in October and while the case edges are square they definitely aren’t sharp, if anything the bracelet is sharper. That said the bracelet is a huge improvement over the last generation. Perhaps Omega addressed the issue in house, either way, love the watch. Btw, great shots as usual. Cheers

I have this watch from 2022 and no sharp edges........apart! From the 4 inner lug corners, these are pin sharp BUT I'd never let that stop me buying such a beautiful watch, bracelet is amazingly comfortable.

Same happened when i tried on the newer SM diver 300 (blue and black versions). The bracelet was very sharp and was not comfortable at all for me. The watch as a whole didnt feel or look what they cost. Went with the planet ocean and have been very happy. So comfortable I sometimes forget i have such a big chunk on my wrist.

With respect to the Omega, I'm oddly somewhere between you and some others completely disagreeing with you. Having heard you say this on the BW channel a couple of weeks ago while I was actively considering buying one, I really appreciated the honest input, and I paused to check that out, but while I found the edges sharper than, say, my Sub, I didn't find them to be a sharpness I would consider a QC issue or resembling a replica, so I felt fine with buying, and so far feel no issue with it. Regardless, I appreciate you putting it out there to consider - most wouldn't, unfortunately, and that's just another reason what you are doing is unique.

I have a MKII reissue and the clasp has sharp edges as well. It’s almost like a burr where Omega should have gone in with a felt wheel to add a bit of a chamfer but didn’t.

I have the Speedmaster FOIS, and love the applied logo, smaller size and yeas the calibre 1861. It's a fantastic movement and the watch looks amazing on a leather strap. I knew that the new 2021 moomwatch was coming out, but preferred the one I bought. I love Omega's and my Speedy gets more time on my wrist than my Submariner. I love it so much, that the boutique that I bought the Speedy from is now ordering me in a Seamaster 1957 trilogy to try on. I plan to buy it ad well, once it gets in next week. Great review..!!

Interesting. Am keen on the new model. Tried it on at an AD a few days ago - didn’t notice any particularly sharp edges on the case or bracelet (in fact, it felt very comfortable). But will focus on that next time I check it out again. Re the Rolex comparison, I’ve always found the bottom edge of the case on my 16600 Sea-Dweller to be particularly crisp- run your finger along it and you could definitely say it feels “sharp”. But it’s never been anything other than a super comfortable watch. I like the definition that the edge gives the case. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons I’m drawn to the new Speedy? Anyway, good to get a critical perspective on a watch that has had such breathless coverage recently... 🙂. Also, your daughter clearly has talent - great footage👍🏻

I heard you mention this issue in a earlier video which got my attention since I’ve been considering picking up this iconic watch recently. At the AD today I compared a new 2020 Hesalite versus the new 2021 Hesalite. Both watches had a strong edge on the back of the case, not cut you skin sharp, but sharper than most other watches I’ve tried on recently. I’d say the level of sharpness was identical. Surely you Speedmaster from the 80’s doesn’t have this sharpness on the case but have you tried on a new Speedmaster from the previous version to compare? Maybe this issue has been around for a while? I didn’t have both versions of the bracelet in front of me to compare.

I don't see why people should get so defensive about raising an issue about sharp edges. For the money we're paying, the edges should be broken up a bit more. I've noticed through the different generations of the Seamaster 300M Diver that I've owned that the bracelet has gotten sharper and sharper over time. I would chalk it up to cost cutting and Omega spending less time in the bracelet finishing. From my Rolex sports models, I would say their bracelets are perfectly smooth without any sharp edges, but the watch heads could qualify as deadly weapons with all the sharp edges on those.

I have a 3861 and the lugs are sharp but they don’t bother me because the caseback lifts them up so they don’t contact my skin. The clasp of the bracelet however, is sharp as hell. Every single edge on that piece is sharp. I may have to take a file to it.

I said the same thing when I tried on the new speedy. but...I still went ahead and bought it. as you said I did like the Omega logo on the sapphire sandwich. But I couldn't stand the bracelet so I fixed it with a nato strap. and yes, the 321 "ed white" is a thing of beauty!

Hey Oisin, I’ve had the new Speedmaster on my wrist for a week and I haven’t had these issues. The case edges are precise, but it is not like a cutting edge. Also, I don’t have any issues with the bracelet; definitely no scraping sensation.

Same here - I've owned my sapphire for over a month now, and while the case edges are sharp in the way of being well-finished, I've never found them to be uncomfortable or potentially dangerous.

The sharp edges you described about the Speedmaster is exactly what I experienced with the Tudor Pelagos. I watched all the videos and reviews before making the purchase. Unfortunately, I don't have a Tudor AD near me so I couldn't try it on before committing to the purchase. Hairy arms and Pelagos on the titanium bracelet is a match made in hell. I put it on a rubber strap but I didn't buy it to keep it on rubber. End of story, I had to get rid of it and take an $800 hit. Live and learn; thanks for being real..

Reason is, on the old case the underside was polished! On the new Speedy they kept the machined “brushed” look.

Comfort on the wrist is something which is hardly ever discussed on YT, as many content creators might never have had the actual watch in hand. Thanks for sharing At a different price point, I experienced the same with a Longines VHP Conquest. Good looking steel sports watch, crazy accuracy, sleep mode, perpetual calendar and a very sensible price tag. But I can’t wear it more than a few hours, because of these sharp hedges. Bummer !

Thanks for having the courage to write an honest review. Agree 100%. Live your comment about priorities (start with a watch that doesn’t cut your skin...and feels like a luxury watch. The song at the end is probably symbolic of the new moonwatch), knocking on heavens door). Perhaps Omega will offer to refinish all shipped watches and then correct their manufacturing process. Very interesting. I bought in 2019 the Tokyo Edition Panda in Japan, Tokyo (good old 1861). And guess what: this one has already the razor sharp case edges (but not the bracelet, there, the edges are smooth). So I guess, the quality issues already exist for two years, at least at the case level. Keep the good word up! And btw: you live at an awesome place!

Not seeing this. My local AD had one and I didn’t see, first hand, what you’re referring to. So, don’t buy the new Speedy because the one your looking at might have a sharp edge? Mod wise, it’s a tremendous watch. I’d be surprised if it actually cuts you when you’re wearing it?

I always told people how comfortable my 1861 was on my wrist. It goes on smoothly when putting it on if that makes any sense. I'm very happy with my Speedy.

This sounds like complete nonsense to me! They may be sharp edges, but they certainly won't be sharp enough to cut your skin. You need to man up a bit!

They still shouldn’t be sharp, it’s a $7000 watch. If I owned one with such a sharp edge I’d take it to the dealer and tell them to send it to Omega, under warranty, and fix that edge. Simple. No reason to get so upset.

I really don't get it. I have tried the Speedmaster xy times and especially after hearing about this sharpness. I didn't feel a thing on my wrist. Even forcing it did nothing. Maybe some of us just don't feel pain the same way or at the same level 😂

The guy at Fratello said the new cheese grater bracelet fits on the 1861 case so maybe the reverse option is also an OK fit? The bracelet from the 1861 might still be out at some shops. This is certainly an issue worth thinking about. The after market JB champion bracelet seems ok. It was designed for the 1861 so I’m thinking it might fit the new case.

I used to like Oisin’s videos, but he’s become a watch diva in the last couple of years. The newest Speedmaster is amazing. The 2018 Seamaster is an incredible watch, too. I like it more than my Sea-Dweller 43mm. Oisin’s become a Rolex fanboy who dogs all the other brands.

Much respect to you bro. Too bad you had a bad experience with the new speedy. As for me, I got my sapphire sandwich a week ago. I have very sensitive skin, therefore, I was worried about the sharp bracelet issue. After a week of wearing it on a daily basis it turned out to be the most comfortable wear among my watch collection. Moreover, to me I think the bracelet is the most distinguished aspect of the watch. So light and delicate and wears and feels as smooth as silk.

Ive been wearing my new speedy for 2 weeks straight and I have not had any issue with the sharp edges scraping me at all. Its not a big deal at all to be honest
