Personally, because I'm a huge language nerd, I love when bands will use logos not in the latin alphabet and showcase letters we aren't used to see. I'm thinking about bands like Zuriaake and Muqali from China, Gevurah from Quebec (but they use a Hebrew logo), Mait Sar and Weizador from Myanmar, Akvan from Iran or Chthonic from Taiwan. Those kind of logos definitely are my favourites.

i feel like a logo that needs to be mentioned is the carcass logo. i think it's one of the most balanced logos: like it's kinda legible but at the same time it's fuckin nasty. it doesn't necessarily have symmetry but how the scribble "tails" at both ends blend with the letters on both sides just works so well and are so satisfying to look at imo. i like to imagine how the sharp font resembles their technical playing while the scribbles stand for their gruesom imagery. love this one a lot.

my favorite type of logo is what i call "a bunch bars and lines" ie bands like disorder, chaos uk, enzyme. there so simple yet effective they really hit the right spot for a messy punk band. the "i just scratched this into a wall"look. they go to the opposite end of artistic logoing. super minimalist. i also like the amount of crust band that make there own doom logo rip for merch just like the "dis" tribute logos

The logos of Atheist and Dark Angel are two of my favorite designs. Atheist's looks like it was cut from stone a thousand years ago and Dark Angel's, with its geometric lettering and huge demon wings sorta ties together in a way that I can't quite explain but it just works. Also, some bands will have a signifying illustration that is not part of their logo but is used on album covers and merch, like Coroner and Lorna Shore. The illustration for Coroner (my pfp) looks really cool with the the triple-jointed fused skull (to represent their three piece lineup) and the sawblade behind it is just dope to me

Did you know that Steve Harris used the font from the poster for the 1976 movie called "The Man Who Fell to Earth", staring David Bowie, as the inspiration for the Iron Maiden logo? The font from the movie poster is called "Busk", and the guy who created the "Metal Lord" font based on the letters from the Iron Maiden logo only later realized that he inadvertently plagiarized the "Busk" font because he didn't know the backstory behind the Iron Maiden logo at the time.

My band, The Quagaars, have had a few different logos over the years, all using fairly standard fonts. But last year, I was making some t-shirts to sell on tour and was drawing everything by hand for which I came up with a new logo. There was a band that I loved (I still love them but they broke up) called Glitoris and their guitarist who goes by Andrew Glitoris always signed her name using the anarchy symbol as the A which I thought was really cool, so I used that idea and then turned the Q into a peace symbol. The idea of "peace through anarchy" kinda fits with who the band is so it made sense. From that point on, the version that I drew by hand on a t-shirt has been our logo and I think it really suits the band more than our previous ones. It's messy as it's my awful handwriting, but we're very much a DIY band, we're lo-fi and weird, space grunge/prog punk...so it fits. I added some effect to it on the computer but other than that, it's how I drew it on a t-shirt.
