As someone who knows nothing about He Man, I thought it was great. primarily because of the bold choice of killing he man. That being said I do understand the disappointment to some degree. It's difficult to understand the intensity of a fandom you're not in, passion for a thing is often shifted to someone's only characteristic when the internet is involved so SPOILERS When they KILLED He-Man TWICE, I respected the utter balls and craziness of that decision whereas people in the fandom see that Kevin Smith apparently never liked he man and go "why the fuck would you make a reboot of he man, a show you don't have an immense amount of passion for, and NOT HAVE HE MAN IN IT" We all have our bias and internet circles, the only reason I watched this show was because I listen to Fatman fairly regularly and generally like Smith's content and outlook. I have too many thoughts on He man fandom then is probably heathy right now, this comment is too long. I hope people read it.

I watched the show when I was a kid ^^ luved it. Had the chance to rewatch a lot of them b4 this new MOTU show. And I luved the new Kevin Smith version ^^. It's only part 1 and these 5 episodes made me excited for the next 5. As for the "disappointment", I too find it difficult to grasp somewhat. I'm sure there are those that just genuinely didn't like the show for the content and writing. But there seems to be a minority of peeps that don't like the show because of those said internet circles. Those that usually bash anything they consider "woke" and BS like that. They're very vocal but they are very few so whatever lol. Spoiler talk I too found that killing HeMan at the start was very gutsy and made for a compelling story ^^ I liked a lot the way it gave a nice focus to the other characters. But that second time in the 5th episode, I don't think they killed him lol pretty sure he's just badly injured. Can't wait to see this SkeleGod for the next part ^^. OH! and finding a way to have BORG's in the MOTUverse was funky fresh lol luved it 👍

Its a combination of multiple things. Most people thought it was a He Man show because of trailers and then youtubers got leaked the show was actually about Teela. And they mentioned that and then Kevin Smith made the unfortunate decision of calling out the youtubers very publicly and shitting on them. Which didn't really come off well. Then the series released months later now and it turns out the people he shit all over and called out were actually completely right beat for beat what happened. This on top of the fact that he openly admitted he doesnt like He Man so people dont think he should of been in charge of the series. And now that the series has been released last i heard it has like a 30% rating from people bombing it due to just not liking Kevin Smith. And now Kevin Smith is currently doing a press tour to a bunch of media outlets and basically using them to shame people who are upset. And he recently decided to again call out the youtubers he had been shitting on who were complaining that they were right and he shouldnt of done that just because people called what would happen in the series. And then it gets into weird he said she said stuff and lying to paint himself in a better light in the situation. This ended up long lol but yeah there is like this whole weird timeline of stuff most of the hate comes from what i mentioned and I think the general consumer hate comes from just gender politics stuff that people hate. Because they killed He Man to then focus on Teela. When they already have a She Ra series coming out which is He Mans sister. And also alot of the hate being they could of just gave Teela her own show without killing off He Man. Personally I dont care I just found the Kevin Smith stuff that been flooding my feed for the past couple of days interesting.

@@deandrereese3694 Yeah, I get the sense that he was tasked with making a show that would please everyone, ended up taking it in a more controversial direction that he thought was more interesting (as do I kinda) but then didn't want to alienate fans who read leaks because that's not what netflix wanted. Now he's just overwhelmed with this anger for a bit of white lie he told to get heat off his back idk. I should stop caring and just watch the show when it comes out because thinking about this stuff is getting in the way of how much I enjoyed it. But the same time there is a bit of "How the fuck are they going to write themselves out of this?" appeal that infinity war had but to an even stronger degree because of the negative fan response. Does any of this make sense? This conversation is turning into a bit of an essay lol

There is no lesbian relationship, tela doesnt become the new heman. Its a fine show but its obvious where theyre going for in part 2. Orco will return ala gandalf. He literally quotes gandalf before he "dies'. The fans want heman? Theyre about to get about 50 hemen charging out the gates of preternia to fight a 100 ft skeletor alongside heman. But children want there toys now and theyll throw a tantrum if they dont get their way in the first half of a freaking cartoon.

I think the problem that people have with MOTU was that it was intentionally marketed with false promises. All promotional material was set up so that we believed it was He-Man updated but it was actually about strong male characters being sidelined for a strong female supporting character on both sides of the conflict to pander to an audience that didn't ask for it. Who were they making this series for? The adult fans of the show? Not with that bait and switch. She-Ra gave what it promised. New male watchers? Possible but I've not seen good responses. New female watchers? My GF was not interested in any way shape or form and scrolled on her phone the entire time.

I don't care at all about He-Man, but it is quite understandable that people get mad when you trick them. You have all the promotional materials etc showing one thing and the content is completely different. Directors and commenters should own up to the fact that this was done at the expense of fans instead of painting every critisism under the banner of "whining". Even Metal Gear Solid 2, which was an amazing game, faced backlash due to the snake bait and switch. As long as it was intentional and part of the artistic vision, you have to expect the anger and stop insulting everyone christ.
