The herd reveal in the comics was so well done. They’re firing at the sanctuary long after there are no targets and the saviors wonder what’s the deal. Turn the page and boom, walker herd splash page. The adaptation it was telegraphed 18 miles out what was happening

i know im a bit late but i find it funny how the cars in this series acts a a invincible wall against all calibers from guns. at best the engine may block leg shots but your still gona get lit up plus its harder to move around in the car than on the ground. Making it so that you cant change positions like you can on the ground. if someone shoots at you, you have to stay in the driver seat. 23:39 also hes getting shoot at by at 50BMG Machine gun that would easily pierce the through that car so rick would be dead

I've been waiting for this! Season 8 has it's ups and downs but I love that the season starts and ends with Mercy and Wrath. Really fits the theme of "let mercy prevail over my wrath"

i honestly enjoyed season 8 more than season 7 (with some carl shaped exceptions) but, and i dont know why, i started counting every death/kill count (which may not be 100% accurate) but for season 8 human deaths i personally counted 399 human deaths. 349 of which were saviors. 90 of which were from the finale with the guns

The bullet issue with the good guys could’ve been explained if at the end of episode 3 we see Alexandrians stripping weapons and ammo off of the dead. Even after all these years I’m still pissed about Morales. It feels like a slap in the face to longtime fans. This is also the season where I wanted Daryl to die so bad. He does so many stupid and terrible things that even after his comeback in season 9, a part of me still wants him to die, if not the least for the “if Daryl dies we riot” crowd to shut up already

Making Carl a peacenick hippie and killing him was such a huge waste of what became my favorite character. I originally stopped watching after season 3, but if I hadn’t, I would have stopped watching when Carl died. It’s something that was spoiled for me a long time ago. And if I wasn’t dedicated to watching the meta-series in chronological order. I’d probably stop watching now if I wasn’t ready for it. Such a waste, such a bummer.

The Morales copout reveal was what made me quit the show. I was a big fan of the Morales theories and when it finally happened I thought it would be a great plot point to show a parallel to Rick but the way he was unceremoniously killed off immediately made me so angry

I'll write comments as someone who hasn't read the books and didn't watch season 8 as it aired but binge watched it a couple years late knowing full well that Negan was beat and Carl died. On the season premiere I got the idea that the plan was to make the Sanctuary inhabitable to make the workers join their cause and uprise against Negan so the group shooting at the windows felt like part of that plan. That being said, the fact that the workers ended up playing no role on the war and the outcome of it is really dumb now that I think about it.

What happened at the Sanctuary is the dumbest thing in the whole show. Not only were they already leading a herd of walkers there with the explosions and Daryl on his bike, so why would they need to make all that noise and waste all those bullets just to draw more there, but even if it was there intention to shoot at the windows to see the snipers, they wasted HUNDREDS of bullets just to do that! Isn't ammo supposed to be scarce???? That's why they spent a good proportion of 7B scavenging them???? There's like 100 people that shoot 4 shots each just to get Negan's attention, and then when they have all the Savior leaders RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF THEM they choose to fire thousand bullets into WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!! And the worst part is, in episode 9 when it's shown how they got out, Morgan and others soldiers see the Saviors shooting from the windows to create a wall of walkers, AND THEY DO NOTHING!

Seasons 7 and 8 are truly so much better streaming them on a rewatch that when originally waiting week to week. When watching season 7 you know there is light at the end of the tunnel, so the negativity of the season isn't so overwhelming. Then like you said, season 8 actually is cool to rewatch knowing its Rick's last true stand in the series. Also the war doesn't seem as never ending when streaming the whole season in a couple weeks or less.

Controversial, but I actually like a lot of season 8 compared to what we got in season 7. Storm trooper shooting aside. When Simon back stabbed Negan it was like “Finally! How has no one done this yet”. 😂 The King and Morgan were probably my favs of this season. S8 (rightfully) gets a bad wrap because of Carls death. I’m still not over it. The dumbest aspect that bugged me was the captured Saviors plot. They kept the saviors around for “leverage” but then they all escaped and couldn’t be used for leverage ??? Plus I couldn’t stand the “good saviors” New Jersey(?) accent. Honorable mention to Jesus who tried his best.

It was a bit nostalgia on a rewatch, but to me it is kinda connected to Rick and Carl being gone soon. I think my "good" rewatch nostalgia kind of ended with Alexandria because the On the Road part is officially over 🤔 8A is the point where I dropped the show back when it aired. Funnily enough, the "All out War" (even to today) might just be the low point of the show for me....Waiting a week for pointless shooting and weird drama was not fun

One thing I WILL say is a straight upgrade in the adaptation, the climax of the Negan arc felt a lot better. In the comic it kind of comes out of nowhere with very little subterfuge. I didn't agree with killing off CAHRL but his martyrdom gave an incredibly satisfying conclusion to the conflict, especially as it's about Carl's outlook on the future from a young man that grew up in the apocalypse. In the comic it's more like "Hey Negan have you considered a barter system?" and he's caught off guard enough to get his throat slit. Very lacklustre imo

TWD never had a good shootout scene once. The first egregious lengthy sequence of utterly impotent mutual gunfire was the Governor's attack, and I'm surprised these videos didn't mention that, knowing Season 8 and beyond. I was groaning in boredom during that because even back then it's literally just shooting. Not shooting at anyone, not shooting to accomplish anything, just shooting. They're always very badly shot too, and this also never changes. There are constantly "hero shots" of people shooting just past the camera. Those do absolutely nothing, because it - deliberately - obscures the effect of the shooting; because all the shooting has no effect on anything or anyone. It is hands-down the worst aspect of the show. To clarify, I do mean gunfights between people. Making a stand against incoming zombies never has this problem, as they're obviously very happy to show zombie heads exploding.

I stumbled upon the retrospective a few days ago and binged it all and then this new one is uploaded. Good timing. This was the last (half) season that I watched. I started watching when season 3 was comming out and watched it on a weekly basis after I caught up. Never was a huge fan of Karl but killing him off knowing about his important role in the comics annoyed me so much that I just had enough. Hearing that Andrew was leaving the show put in the final nail in the coffin that secured my abstinence. I've been checking the wiki ever since to see who got killed off so I kinda know what's going on. But I still don't feel like watching anything after the mid season finale of season 8. I also didn't like the tone of the show anymore. I'm in the minority of the people that liked season 2 and the whole atmosphere it had. (Plus I loved Jeffery DeMunn). Tl;dr: thank you for your work. You did a great job with this series!
