The groups reaction to Carl’s death was meh🫤. You’d think they’d be more shaken up about a kid they literally watched grow up. Maybe reminding Carol a little of Sophie, losing both the children of the group to walker bites. But the blank stares were… off putting.

Maggie has literally seen Carl as a child bleeding to death on a cot in her fathers home. Hell carol and has been with Carl since the VERY BEGINNING of the apocalypse. But they didn’t even shed a tear over Carl’s death.

@@nicoloreynolds4979 Yeah people weren’t expecting Henry to be on the pikes at all. They thought he would be the Carl replacement for the rest of the show but I never really thought of him like that. They only needed him for that specific portion of the story but beyond that I don’t think it was really necessary to keep him around. He served his purpose well.

The biggest flaw with Georgie, was not using her as a template to give an interesting TV spin on Pamela Milton. I remember a bunch of people theorizing she was Pam(She does look similar to her comic counterpart) It honestly made more sense timewise for the Commonwealth to take a decade to build a 50,000 populated network vs the few years in the book. But imagine if they took that benevolent woman helping build other communities up, and over the course of the timeskips the show took had her finally build that network of communties, only for it to warp into the corrupt old world before the dead walked! Plus having "Georgie" turn out to be Pam building the Commonwealth would have given Maggie ACTUAL stakes in the final season outside of "You took over the community I abandoned 7 years ago, how dare you" and could have spared us the waste of the "Reapers" arc that took up a THIRD of the final season retreading the same quasi-religous group thing we already dealt with in Terminus.

I think that doing a FTWD retrospective would be super cool; obviously the format would have to be different, but I think that there’s a lot to analyze there, in regards to show runners, writing decisions, and themes. I only watched through season three but I think that the Contagion style first season felt so much more real than the walking dead ever has. The third season with the Native American vs settler conflict was also super interesting, as well as Mexico

To me Gavin's death was quite sad. To me he always seemed like a savior that doesn't want to be a savior. Defecting them would mean either death or the iron, so he played by the rules, rose up in ranks and used his position to try to keep peace between the saviors and the kingdom. He never really seemed to indulge in violence like the other saviors. I would have wished for him to have a redemption arc ...

I never forgot about Georgie cos I always confused as to why she was added and thought that whole B plot was dumb. Anytime Georgie was brought up later on my parents were like who’s Georgie though, so she’s definitely very forgettable. The Rosita RPG scene I did forget though, but I didn’t care about how goofy it was, sure it’s dumb and makes no sense but it’s hilarious and just a second compared to the Georgie nonsense that takes up half an episode and is a reason for Maggie’s absence.

When Maggie left the show it felt like a hopeful look forward to what they could rebuild the world to but then the writing when she comes back didn’t allow us to care about Maggie’s journey while away with Georgie or really understand the threat of the reapers. It just felt thrown in and of course they could only do so much to reintroduce her but it just felt disconnected 🤷🏾‍♂️

The episode that Carl dies is when I stopped watching I didn't even watch the next episode to see what happen. I just had no desire to continue after Carl died and he was one of the few characters that was around my age when watching the show that I could somewhat relate too.

A good addition to Rick getting shot with the bolt in the comics is that the cover for issue 127 showing magna in the new beginning made people think Rick was actually not gonna be around in a few issues. IDK if that was just my theory but when that came out is what I thought

The writers definitely decided to focus more on the interpersonal human side of the Saviors conflict rather than the conflict itself, but it meant stretching the content on that comic story thin over 2 entire 16 episode seasons WITH some extended episodes! And there's even important character moments like the characters regrouping and grieving after Negan kills Glenn, instead jumping ahead a week in the show, and having an episode entirely in The Kingdom and The Sanctuary first. It's such bizarre pacing the stuff they decided to keep in and take out and replace. There's so much unnecessary filler and groups that solely exist to drag out the plot and delay big moments, saving them for mid season finales/premieres and finales, that were never necessary in the comics, and also scenes and character development that happens in the comics that they just ignored in the show. And the writing all around was pretty lacklustre with some horrible Gimpleogue and characters doing unrealistic reckless stupid things to drive the narrative forward in the direction the writers wanted. It was just completely mishandled. TWD comics are already a very human story, and why TWD excelled in the early seasons by taking quite rapid storylines and adding more depth, realism and humanity to them, much like GOT adapting the books, in later seasons it just didn't work as well and it became more soap opera like that a dark gritty horror drama

I grew up along with him, I'd read the comics by then so him dying really pissed me off. I had a felling that the reason they kept Julie alive was to replace carl as the next generation. Despite having entire episodes set at the Sanctuary, we never actually saw enough of the average Saviors perspective. He never saw the families of the victims of the outpost massacre grieving, we hardly saw innocent workers who hated Negan, we never saw Saviors rebelling against Negan, we never saw them trying to side with the protagonists, or anything that humanised them or garnered any sympathy. There was the guy Dwight shot in 7x3, Negan's wives, and I tiny rebellion in 8x5, but that's literally it

I’m actually making a cut of “the Negan saga” covering season 6 episode 10 through 8.16, and cutting out as much filler as possible to make this arc something easier for people to get through. It’s looking like it’ll pan out to be 18 episodes, and about 1/2 the run time of the original. This portion had the most cuts of any, to the point where I basically cut everything after Carl, and opted for a short time skip, with a recap title screen to mention the few relevant plot points that happened over 7 episodes. I basically fit 7 episodes into 1 minute lol. I did keep a few things in, like Negan killing Simon though.

The main goal is to make it streamlined to the bigger story vs getting into the weeds on all these small stories about characters who matter very little in the long run. Of course the big characters are still focused on a good bit.

11:34 I actually prefer how Dwight is portrayed in the show, both the main one and Fear. In the comics, it was like his personality changed from issue to issue. First he's on Negan's side, then he's on Rick's, then he's the leader of the Saviors, now he doesn't want to lead, then he wants to take over The Commonwealth, etc. At least in the show they're consistent with the characterization of "I want to find my wife and put an end to Negan's tyranny."

BRUH, the entire negan arc in the show was what turned me off. The nonsensical amount of endless supplies, fuel, and ammunition, the fact that Negan was not only a strategic genius but also a fighting brute, and had what seemed like 1000+ people and fighters at his disposal at the snap of a finger just threw me out of the world the show had created. I never read the comics so my only media of TWD is the show, but I actually skipped season 7 entirely because I just couldn't care. And get this, aside from a couple things I didn't think I missed much 😂

The reason Georgie came in was just to create an exit for Lauren Cohan so she can go off and do the new show whiskey Cavalier, which tanked that’s why they made that story. It’s not because of the MCU and fees, for it has nothing to do with that. It’s mainly to do with the fact that Lauren Cohen wanted to go off and do other things. So that was a way to write her out of the show without killing her off
