9 жыл бұрын

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Stewart Lockie explores the battles to control time, especially future time, that define our age. Safe passage to the future, he argues, is ultimately about power and who gets to decide what versions of the future are worth aiming for.
Prof Stewart Lockie is a sociologist and the Director of The Cairns Institute at James Cook University. His research addresses questions such as how people understand and respond to environmental change? The effectiveness of environmental policy? Who is affected by resource development? And how to support sustainable livelihoods and food security?
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I never knew I would be a sociologist but it all made sense to me over time, all my understanding of societal changes and issues became a clear vision. I recall a time where I had a house located in a broken area in Vallejo California, i was living in a area of poverty, prostitution, gangs etc. however when I moved I still kept in contact with a few locals in the area and I asked one of the children’s what they liked specifically about my home, and she said, “ I really liked OUR garden”. It took a moment to process what she actually meant, when it dawned on me, I remembered the human kindness I offered the children in the neighborhood to participate in gardening. Suddenly i noticed a group of kids actively interested in gardening. The simple principle to be involved as a community project when it first started out as an individual project. Growth was visible and forever will I remember moments of social change.

Sorry, but science cannot replace prophecy or anything Divine...that's a dichotomy. Science has its place but it's limited. Come on man 😑
