This is a famous tale of Amrapali- a court dancer in the kingdom of Vaishali. The era was around 500 BC. She was in love with the king of enemy stare of Magadha (who disguised himself as a common soldier of Vaishali). She did not knew he was a king. She later become Buddhist. The dance forms shown in the film are kathak dance which is a very ancient form of dance.

No, the dance here is semi-classical, it’s a mix of multiple classical dances like Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi .

The dance form is based on Indian classical dance Bharatnatyam.... She is a specialised dancer of that dance form. The dress is also particularly for this danve form🙏

Her costume, hair, getup is based on the sculptures of the ancient temples. She's proficient in Bharatanatyam. That's the dance from Tamil Nadu. She's from there. Most of the old actresses were proficient in more than one dance form of India or could handle the choreography of the masters. Amrapali is set in a kingdom in present day Bihar.

Be it dancing like a sparkling firefly, her expressions , striking grace , feminity , screen presence , movie and stage performances ....this Living Legend in her 90s is the ultimate Queen of Indian Cinema. Recently in her 90s she performed at Ram Mandir Inaugration too . Plz watch PSBT documentary of iconic dance choreographer -Saroj Khan ....she was in awe of Vyjayantimala's talent . Even Dancing Queens of Bollywood Madhuri Dixit and Hema Malini are inspired by her .

Actresses from Southern India have a different charm altogether. Vyjayanthimala, Sridevi, Hema Malini, Rekha, Aishwarya and Deepika. Madhuri Dixit is from Maharashtra which also has a heavy south indian influence..!!

Lata Mangeshkar is a goddess as a foreigner my self i love the old hindi songs there is an iconic song by Lata called "uthaye ja unke sitam" for this song she had to "lose" her Maharashtran accent she was coached hard by the great Naushad Ali on Urdu diction her performance in this song is legendary and the lyrics and performance by Nargis and others is legendary i would love to see your reaction to it anybody who agrees with me please leave a like

Matthew you haven’t seen nothing yet. Watch old 1960 film called “Raj Tilak” competition dance with another famous actress “Ragini” in that film. Ragini was also queen of classical dancer. Vijayanti Mala is still alive and fit. Ragini is died. From UK 🇬🇧

Costume, jewellery and hairstyle etc were inspired from Anjanta cave paintings. Amrapali was born around 600-500 BCE. The court is of Magadh republic. Amrapali was a court dancer. ML was an enemy prince in disguise using her connections for his own goal. He supposedly really fell in love with her but he started the war that destroyed her country. So she left it all and became a Buddhist nun.

Amrapali was renowned for her beauty, charm, and intellect, and she held a significant position as a courtesan in the city of Vaishali. Her fame was such that she captivated the hearts of many, including kings and nobles. There is an intriguing and less commonly told anecdote involving King Suddhodana, lord Buddha's father. It is said that after lord Buddha's enlightenment, his father was concerned about his son's ascetic path and wanted to bring him back to a life of comfort. In a bid to achieve this, he thought of using Amrapali’s allure. The idea was that her beauty and charm might tempt lord Buddha to abandon his monastic life and return to his royal duties. King Suddhodana allegedly approached Amrapali with a request to seduce Buddha. However, when Amrapali met Buddha and listened to his teachings, she was deeply inspired and experienced a profound transformation. She became his follower instead of attempting to seduce him.

Western dance Hritik Roshan is also very good dancer from todays era, now around 50. Western dance Govinda - Comedy actor with unique dancing skills. His own style of dancing. Trained in both western n indian. Popular in the 90s. Male lady gaga clothinv style Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini - Old actresses. South indian dance forms Allu Arjun

Its Bharatnatyam, a very beautiful Indian classical dance mainly from Tamil Nadu & Karnataka. At 6:20 its Kathakali, another Indian classical dance from Kerala. India has lot of other classical dances too like Mohiniyattam, Koodiyattam & Kerala Natanam from Kerala; Yakshagana from Karnataka; Kuchipudi, Andhra Natyam & Vilasini Natyam from Andhra Pradesh; Perini Natyam from Telangana; Odissi & Mahari Nritya from Odisha; Chhau from Jharkhand; Gaudiya Nritya from Bengal; Sattriya & Assamese Debodashi Nritya from Assam; Manipuri from Manipur; and Kathak from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh & Deccan.

It's from the vedic age of India I suppose. The dance form is evidently that of Bharatanatyam. And the costume is commonly found in the carvings from the old Indian temple walls.

Thanks to reacting to this classic, it’s a mixture of multiple classical forms and the dress itself is supposed to be a Sari with the pleats being in the middle, however, this costume is sewn. Please react to: 1) Kaise Samjhaun from movie Suraj 2) Muqabla Humse na karo from movie Prince. That was For Vajantimala. For Aishwariya Rai, movie Jeans, Tauba Tauba yeh Jalwa is gorgeous! For other classical dances, the Kathak classic- Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje is a must see particularly the competition between the tabla player and the dancer, as well as the Radha Krishna dance!

This was the time when sewing machines were not made , females in India wore peace of clothes like saree even today we wear were properly tied up . like draping the saree then pleating it notted pleates and tucked in under the wearing another peace oh cloth draped and notted like a skirt near to belly button then pulled out from between the legs from back to front and finished tucking end of the saree in her waist like people still wore at Maharashtra.for upper dress also used clothes properly tied up and at last wearing a light weight transparent cloth draping front with like chiffon or Georgette fabric, but to give dress an elegant and attractive look the designers sews it properly like looking same as that era .

Though not an expert of dance forms india 🇮🇳 has many regional dance forms which require years of training under a dance master or guru. She is performing Bharatnatyam which is performed in south india mainly Tamil Nadu. Facial expressions are a integral part of these dances. Other popular dance forms are kathak from north. You must have seen Rekha perform that in Umrao Jaan. Then there is Odissi, Kuchipudi. Bollywood dancjng is a mish mash of indian, western n everything under the sun. Classical dancing n singing today are limited to purists. Earlier actresses from south dominated due to their dancing abilities. It was kind of mandatory. Today all actresses do random dancing, belly dancers are more popular, hip hop etc

Ancient Indian people wear clothing like this. Their dresses were very revealing eye catching at that period.... It's just after islamic people came to india that indian people's clothes were being covered after that.

Liked this reaction video. As a viewer I can see that the song is edited, not the perfect flow. But good to see that u loved Indian classic dance Bharatnatyam performed by this awesome dancer. She is 90 and still dances with the same grace and expressions. One more song I want you to react. Mai kyu na Naachon from the movie Paigham. Again one more beautiful dance number performed by Vaijantimalaji.
