What is lovely with House is that being a jerk is just his natural first impression he gives to people (saves time). Therefore for the sake of patient he won't hesitate to serve you a whole dish of truth, whether you like it or not. That's one part of what makes him a good doctor

As a nurse who has worked with many doctors in the hospital and other places , I always get a good chuckle when these "medical dramas" show the Dr hanging bags, giving meds and drawing labs.. thats so NOT done.. I doubt they even know how..

You want the weirdest nurse on the floor that stares at your veins to an uncomfortable degree. She’s there for the vein and she does NOT make mistakes. That, or whoever’s running day shift at the clinic’s blood draw. Some phlebotomist who’s been doing it for 20 years and doesn’t even give a pinch.

I hated this episode due to the lack of knowledge on OTC. If the male had OTC it would have known at birth. OTC is a urea cycle defect where the liver can not properly break down protein. I'm a carrier of this disease which is super rare. At birth the male would need a liver transplant due to missing blocks in the X chromosome. A female would only need a liver transplant depending on how severe her case would be. Amunol, Arginine and Citrulline are 3 crucial amino acids needed to keep the ammonia levels down. My oldest son was, at the time,his genetic doctor's 3rd case in the 22 years she had been a specialist. That's exactly how rare it is and no it will not go away with a change of diet for males only females.
