It’s funny that you called the blue deer beautiful, as it’s the legendary Pokémon of life. Also, Pokémon battle by nature. Even without the influence of humans, they would still regularly do battle. The humans of the Pokémon world use that natural part of the creatures to strengthen their bonds.

The Pokémon games have always been on Handheld consoles. This stays true to the fact it is currently on the Switch which actually is a console you can hold in your hand. And the reason there’s always 2 versions is because different Pokémon only show up in specific versions and the games promoted trading creatures with friends to collect them all. Obviously with Wi-Fi being a thing, this has become much more easier than using a cable between Gameboys. Now as for the appeal of Pokémon you asked for Beth? It’s simple. The fantasy of collecting cute/cool/weird creatures is a concept any little kid will like. And utilizing them to see which one of them is stronger is more or less just a competition to see who trained their monsters the best. While they can look cute, these creatures are very tough and have a lot of power to them. So while I don’t blame you if you just see this as glorified dog-fighting. But a battle between Pokémon is the equivalent of 2 martial artists going at it to see who is better. And while it looks like some sort of enslavement, it’s up to the Pokémon themselves if they find the trainer worthy enough to have them. The anime shows Pokémon can pop out of their little Pokéballs whenever they want. That being said. Because Pokémon has been around for so long, they’ve obviously expanded on how Pokémon coexist with humans. And it’s really interesting because even though this series is aimed towards kids, they’ve tackled some pretty heavy subjects like abuse, terrorism, mental illness, and heck, even the first game had the concept of Death shown in a particular town. They actually showed that Pokémon can die! Obviously that never happens to your Pokémon when you’re playing the game (otherwise this game would not have gotten to kids), but it goes to show even by the first game, they wanted to fully flesh out their world. And ever since, Pokémon has been one of the BEST SELLING franchises of all time. And just a side tangent. When Ken asked “What the heck is a DS?” That actually made me feel old even though I’m in my mid 20’s. It was basically another handheld console meant to surpass the Gameboy Advance. The DS was a dual screen handheld that actually utilized touch controls and a built in microphone. It still had the simple buttons on the side, but if you played any DS game, it would always utilize the touch screen and/or microphone. Pretty innovative at the time. Then the 3DS was improvement of that with the only upgrade being better hardware and a 3D toggle (which I didn’t use a lot). 23:17 - And Beth, as an avid Charmander fan, I am ashamed that you somehow mistook that big hulking Dragonite for the cutesy Charmander. And no, they are not related. They are completely separate Pokémon. But I guess they are both friend-shaped, so no harm no foul. The funny thing is though, you guys only watched the trailers for the main series games. Pokémon is so huge that they’ve had plenty of spin-off games in the past. Some even loved by the fans. Like you guys have no idea just how large the spin-offs overtake the main games. There are so MANY!

The most recent games, Scarlet and Violet, touched on bullying in such an eerily realistic way that I had to set the game aside for a while because it hit me so hard. And that game's ending is DEPRESSING and touches on some very hard hitting stuff that far too many kids and adults can identify with. To avoid spoilers, I'll be vague, but Arven's story was based on the director's own life.

The mainline Pokemon games have always been on handhelds, probably so you can take them anywhere and play at school and friends' houses and stuff. There are a number of spinoffs and side games on consoles, like Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Colosseum, and Pokepark Wii, but the main games only started coming to consoles with Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee on the Switch, since it's both a console and handheld. Also, each game having different versions is meant to encourage trading with other players, because each version of a game has some exclusive items and Pokemon. If you want to 100% complete a Pokemon game, you basically have to trade with others.

Correction for the last point: that's what it WAS meant to do. Then later on only existed for the sake of getting die hard fans to double, or even triple, dip. Of course, they made better differentiations in Scarlet and Violet, but it's the sort of thing that still could've been combined into one game with a singular branching path, rather than expecting people to buy a whole second game for a small amount of different content. Ya know, like nearly any other game would.

It's a shame they didn't include the Legends Arceus trailer where they straight up say "Pokémon are terrifying creatures." But seriously, for the most part, Pokémon battles aren't life and death, there just friendly competitions. The worst thing that can happen to your Pokémon, in battle, is them getting knocked out, and even that's not a big deal, as the Pokémon world has free health care. The reason the games come in pairs is to encourage trading. Each game only has some of the Pokémon, the only way to get them all is to trade with someone who has the other version. If you want to learn more about the series, I suggest watch all the (English) Anime Openings next. That or just start watching the Anime. The first season holds up surprisingly well. If you'd rather just watch the movies, I suggest starting with movie 20, "Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!" It's basically a reimagining of the first season

Clarification, Jigglypuff was one of the original 151. When Fairy type was added, it and various other Pokémon were retroactively given the Fairy typing. Additionally, Pokémon are not forced to fight. Pokémon as a species naturally battle, either to grow stronger and evolve or just for their own enjoyment. It's more of a combat sport like boxing or MMA than an actual fight. Extended pieces of media show that when one doesn't want to fight, it is considered a forfeit, and forcing one to fight is regularly depicted in moral negative point of view.

For context on why Pokémon battle each other, it kinda depends. If they're wild Pokémon, they're doing it to survive. If they're with a person (a trainer) they accompany them within their Poké Balls and battle to better themselves. Now here's the thing- Pokémon DECIDE if they want to be caught or not. If they don't want to be caught, they break the ball. Funnily enough, Legends: Arceus touches on this, since people saw them akin to just monsters, not friends you can bond with. It also shows that not all of them are battlers- many just hang out with people. From battles, to contests, there are multiple ways for Pokémon and trainers to bond with each other, as it's the key part of the series.

So the reason that all these games came out in twos and why they were all on handhelds, it was for interaction. The series creator wanted kids to be able to take their games along with them so you can have adventures both in game and irl at the same time. At the same time, youd be able to take it to meet your friends with the game. As for why youd want to meet up with your friends along with your game is the social element of the series. Even from the series conception Battle and Trading eachother's pokemon is a necessity to the franchise. That is why the games release in 2. Both games are basically identocal with the exception of a handful of Pokemon that are exclusive to either game. The point of the series is to catch them all so if you want a Growlithe, but you are playing Blue, you should go find one of your friends that play Pokemon Red and ask that friend to trade you. Next, for the themes of the series, Most pokemon enjoy staying in the Poke balls, as they effective simulate a paradise for the pokemon at the same time. Pokeballs work like the Tardis where they are magically larger on the inside than the outside. In terms of battling, Pokemon are more than capable of refusing to battle, and generally enjoy battling. Although having a Pokemon that doesnt enjoy battling doesnt happen often in the games because itd be less fun, but its much more common in the Pokemon Anime. Also Pokemon battles arent to the death, just until the Pokemon looses passes out.

I think a few trailers were missed here: I don’t think I saw any of the animated trailers or the Sw/Sh trailer that premiered dynamax. As for why Pokémon battles are a thing, I’ve always held a particular head canon. Real life cats and dogs play to hone the instincts they need to survive, and more than a few puppy playdates have turned into growling and biting. For Pokémon it’s the same thing, only now we’ve got critters that casually blitz out lightning bolts, flames, particle beams and weather phenomena as casually as a kitten pounces a ball of yarn.

Pokemon games always come in twos because they're meant to have a somewhat social element baked into it. Each version allows you to catch a different legendary Pokemon and there are some Pokemon only available on each version. The intent is that you trade Pokemon and battle with your friends who have the other version. That's also why most of the games were on handheld devices. Before the internet was commonplace you would link up your handhelds with a cable or wirelessly. Home consoles didn't have inter connectivity. Even after online gaming became more commonplace, you just couldn't beat the portability of handheld devices.

The pokemon don't battle to death, if their HP reaches 0 they just faint and are then recalled to their pokeballs (not sure if you were being serious about this but I wanted to adress this just in case). They can easily get healed afterwards in advanced medical facilities known as pokemon centers, which are widely distributed throughout each major region. It's true that there is a big emphasis on catching and collecting lots of different pokemon species, but an important theme throughout the series is about how humans and pokemon also benefit from coexisting with eachother. Though there are of course people who abuse pokemon for their own evil goals, like for example Team Rocket who are the main antagonists of the first two generations of pokemon games.

So Gamefreak, by Generation 6 of Pokemon, decided to introduce new Game Mechanics which brought both new and old fans to the series. The Mechanic added was Mega Evolution. Pretty much giving temporary forms to pokemon which also boosts their stats. And that's just the thing, Generation exclusive mechanics are a thing. So Gens 7 - 9 had their own mechanics. However, now with Pokemon Legends Z-A, we're getting Mega Evolution returning next year. That's 11 years since it was introduced to the community via the games X and Y. Also, before I forget, a leak proves that Pokemon Z was going to be a thing but got scrapped. Meaning that Pokemon X and Y were meant to have a third game which would have been like either Pokemon Platinum or have been like Black2 & White2. So legends Z-A is a redemption. -Platinum pretty much combines Diamond and Pearl while adding new content. -Black2 & White2 are canonical Sequels to Black & White.

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (legends arceus) is the Sinnoh (formerly Hisui) region, based on Hokkaido in japan. Sun/Moon is the Alola region, which is based on Hawaii. Sword/Shield is the Galar region, which is based on the U.K. And Finally Scarlet/Violet is the Paldea region, based on Spain. Honestly to get more of a handle on the world I'd recommend watching the Pokemon anime movies as they were often made in newcomers in mind and often spend a few minutes establishing the setting and the main cast before kicking into the heart of that movie's plot. Plus, the first movie's plot in English (it got changed a lot from the original Japanese version) does kinda get across the difference between 'bad' battles and 'good' ones in its own way: Pokemon love to fight but 'to the death' is only if things are very VERY wrong (Pokemon are crazy tough and good at healing so while they can die, battles are usually more akin to a friendly game or sport in setting for them, barring actual life or death situations where all bets are off). The plot of the main series games (what these ads were about) is usually 'kid hits local region's minimum age limit to travel on their own as a Pokemon trainer and then proceeds to do so, usually running into some sort of bad guy team along the way to taking on the Pokemon League and becoming a champion', though the individual plot lines and tones of the games vary (for example, Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu it's basically just 'go beat the league, btw here's the mafia yaaay you beat'em wooo! =D' and not much else, where as Pokemon Black and White, there's lots of 'is pokemon training eithically right?' talk, features a character who was kept trapped in a single room for most of his +19 years of life, only ever exposed to abused pokemon to shape his world views and groomed to be a 'child prophet' by an abusive father figure in charge of what is almost certainly a 'g rated' depiction of a cult -even includes ex members in the sequel games set 2 years later struggling to relearn how to live outside of it- Oh and then there's Legends Arceus which is 'You are a modern kid, supposedly 14, who's just been isekaied to 1800s Pokemon Hokaido by Arceus/AKA POKEMON GOD and if you don't pull your weight in work, the people here will abandon you to the wilds where you will starve and die. Also Pokemon training/friendship with humans isn't really a thing yet, wild Pokemon can actually be really scary sometimes and there are literal holes in space and time that are just sitting there. Menacingly. All the time.'. ...ahhh Legends Arceus is a great game, even with all the muddy coloring and bad loading distances XD). Also to add in to what others are saying: This video only showed the ads for the mainline games and... I think it was only the American versions at that cuz as an Aussie I remember the ads for Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire being WAY cooler than that (more akin to the guard in the museum one, had a kid with a lantern uncovering ancient ruins and discovering the lore of ancient primal pokemon)

I really enjoyed your reaction. Especially the early clips brought back some memories. As for the pokemon being captured, generally it's shown in the television shows that a pokemon chooses to work together with a trainer. They have a choice to leave. (They can escape their pokeball anytime or permanently break it) Pokemon are generally competitive and like to test their strength against other pokemon. Not all are fighters though. You have for example pokemon that are trained to support and help patients in hospitals. You have aura or psychic pokemon who can sense what humans are feeling and help psychologists in treating them. A pokemon can choose to go with a trainer because it could be curious about the world, feels a connection to the person they met, or simply because it wants to become stronger. While a pokemon battles for their trainer and can get injured it's not a one-way street. A trainer gives a pokemon food, valuable vitamines, special candies that strengthens their bodies, and access to new moves a pokemon may never be able to learn in the wild. The trailer for Legends Arceus was a bit misleading in hindsight. It implied that pokemon were roaming free and humans were going to change that. Legends Arceus touches on the bonds between pokemon and humans. In ancient times they were often seen as monsters that would attack people. This game was about getting a better understanding of them.

For more meta background on Pokémon though, the creator was a guy name Satoshi Tajiri. He used to play in a more rural version if Japan as a kid. He and his friends collected bugs. A lot of development happened. He's nostalgic and has a more environmentalist lens of the world. That kind of messaging shows up in a lot of Pokémon games. He and his friends were also fans of the "Dragon Quest" series (it's the progenitor for jrpgs as a game genre and *extremely* popular in Japan). But, he and his friends were disappointed that they couldn't trade their items around between each other. There were other "creature collection" games before Pokémon like Dragon quest 5 and Shin Megami Tensei. So Pokémon just took inspiration from those. They merged these three concepts when they got the greenlight from Nintendo and Japan got Pokémon Red and Green in '96 or '97. Then it became a global phenomenon because of the premise of "Catching em all" lending itself really well into being marketed at children. Almost every single piece of Pokémon media is disconnected from each other. They have little to do with one another except that some of the games reference each other. It's just not that deep. If you're looking for complexity in a similar style of series, I recommend Digimon. The appeal of Pokémon is squarely in growing up with it or in playing it with other people.

And when you're Pokemon get hurt, it's usually a good idea to take them to the nearest Pokemon Center, which is free Healthcare for Pokemon AND it only takes a few seconds to heal them fully as well. I personally go to the Pokecenter most of my run to conserve spending on healing items that are less effective than a visit to the Pokecenter. Also, the Pokemon Center visits are totally free. And some Pokemon only evolve through increasing their friendship stat, which wasn't a thing until Gold and Silver. Now, if you want your Pokemon to die in a playthrough, their is a set of self-imposed rules known as a nuzlocke. The three basic rules in a nuzlocke are as follows: 1) You can only catch the first Pokemon on each route/location with wild encounters, 2) You have to nickname your caught Pokemon to get attached to them, and 3) if a Pokemon gets KO'ed, the player can't use them anymore, so they either store them in a separate box until the credits roll, or you release them permanently. Now, nuzlockes are self-imposed and therefore not officially part of company intended Pokemon gameplay or lore. Besides, Nintendo would have fit if their best family friendly cash cow had killing other creatures as an option.
@BJGvideos7 ай бұрын
Oh! I thought this would be all game INTROS! Watch those too! You battle but it's never to the death. Peopl will implement OPTIONAL rules called a "nuzlocke challenge" where if a pokémon faints you consider it dead and release it, but this is something not reflected in the aftual game mechanics. The only pokémon that die are for story reasons (like, the first game has the ghost of a mon killed by gangsters, which happened before the game started). Also sometimes it may deal with human death as well, though this is also only for story reasons. There's a brief story in one game where an old man asks you for a pokemon he could spend some time with, and if you come back in the postgame, you're told the old man has since died, and your mon made him very happy in his last days (you get it back too). Feel free to ask any questions you may have! Me and your other fans will be more than happy to answer!

Most likely they didn’t want a copyright strike. Which I don’t think happened for other video game intros they did like Tekken. But then again, Tekken isn’t as popular as Pokémon and Nintendo companies are infamous when it comes to copyright strikes.

People would say that the Generation IV (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver) and & Generation V (Black & White and their sequels) are the peak of the series. I would say that's true, but X&Y (along with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) are my personal favorites, as they're the first games to go 3D and introduced the best gimmick in the series. Legends Arceus was such a breath of fresh air and I'm glad we're getting the Pokemon Z we've been asking for years as a Legends game 😭

So I grew up in what I refer to as the "Silver Age" of pokemon (around when Fire Red and Leaf Green and Ruby and Sapphire released), where the hype around the 90's era (the golden age, which is where the OG games on Gameboy classic released) had somewhat cooled, but was still going VERY strong regardless. I think we've hit a sort of...not dark age I wouldnt say, but an age of uncertainty with recent entries. Starting with some issues around X and Y, but really showing signs of trouble at Sword and Shield onward, it seems like the company making these games has sadly fallen to greed, and is just rushing these things out, making slapdash products that feel like budget titles at best despite being the highest grossing media franchise. Yeah yeah I know, "most money is from merch", but the games are what MADE that merch so popular to begin with, and deserve to be better treated than this. So basically, it goes the golden age, then silver age, then the current age which I'd call the uncertain age. I reckon you'll still enjoy modern pokemon games, but its a shame how troubled the series has become lately. Here's hoping it improves come the next entry!
@BaoZakeruga7 ай бұрын
Pokemon games come in pairs because it's supposed to sell more mone- I mean, to encourage you to battle and trade with friends since not all pokemon are available in one game. It's funny you guys wanted the graphics to improve while still in the old era, since a lot of fans feel the series lost a bit of its charm since the switch to 3D. In the world of pokemon kids at the age of 10 set out on an adventure with their partner pokemon to challenge 8 gyms(expert trainers that serve as tests) and then collect their 8 badges to face the big pokemon league against other trainers who have done the same. There's more to it than that since the pokemon world can be just as varied in our own in terms of people in it/stories/etc. Also the pokemon don't mind the battling lol. They get healed afterwards and it's just for sport.

- Welcome to the unhinged world of early American Nintendo commercials. Also included is: two boys marveling at the "Nice graphics!" of Legend of Zelda and rapping about it, the American version of Mr. Creosote (it's for Yoshi's Island), and Kirby getting tenderized by pinball flippers. - Pokemon fight each other all the time. It's their wild idea of roughhousing, sometimes. A good way to explain a Pokemon Trainer's role is...they're a mix of an explorer, a coach, and a pet owner. *Pokemon Red/Green/Blue:* Where it all began - in a journey across the Kanto region to win Gym Badges, thwart the schemes of Team Rocket, become the next Champion, and fill out your Pokedex. Fun fact: in Japan, all three versions existed, but only Red and Blue were sent overseas. (Trainer: Red) (Starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle) (Major characters: Professor Oak, Blue) *Pokemon Yellow:* A special version of Red/Green/Blue where your partner Pokemon is a Pikachu who follows you in the overworld. A lot of the changes in this version were influenced by the Pokemon anime - like the designs of Blue, Brock, and Misty, the presence of Jessie and James, and certain people who give you Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. (Starter: Pikachu) *Pokemon Gold/Silver:* A completely new journey set to the west of Kanto in the Johto region. There's a new set of Gyms to conquer, a new rival, and many new Pokemon to catch. This game also added many new gameplay aspects, like two new types (Dark and Steel), Pokemon genders, held items, weather, breeding, happiness, and daytime cycles. (Trainer: Ethan) (Starters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile) (Major characters: Professor Elm, Silver, Lance) *Pokemon Crystal:* A special version of Gold/Silver. This adds special focus to Suicune and Unown (Pokemon shaped like letters). It's also the first game with a female option for your player character. (Trainers: Ethan or Kris) (Major characters: Eusine) *Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire:* A journey across the tropical expanses of Hoenn. Here, a conflict has broken out between Team Magma and Team Aqua, over whether the world needs more land or more ocean - which will lead one of these teams to pursue Groudon, bringer of droughts, or Kyogre, bringer of heavy rain. Some new features include double battles, Abilities, Pokemon Contests, and Secret Bases. (Trainer: Brendan or May) (Starters: Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip) (Major characters: Professor Birch, Wally, Steven) *Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green:* Remakes of Red/Green/Blue, giving them much of the features introduced up to Ruby/Sapphire (including their own girl option). This also adds a post-League adventure across the Sevii Islands. (Trainers: Red or Leaf) *Pokemon Emerald:* A special version of Ruby/Sapphire, which puts you in conflict with both Team Magma and Team Aqua. Extra focus is granted to the Legendary Pokemon, Rayquaza. This also features Battle Frontier, an expansion to the Battle Tower with multiple modes that really test your battle know-how. *Pokemon Diamond/Pearl:* A journey across the temperate heights of Sinnoh. Team Galactic has big plans which drive them to claim either Dialga, the Pokemon that commands time, or Palkia, the Pokemon that warps space. This game splits attack moves into physical or special (it used to just be based on type), has the Sinnoh Underground to explore, some Pokemon have different forms based on gender, and other little changes. (Trainers: Lucas or Dawn) (Starters: Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup) (Major characters: Professor Rowan, Cynthia) *Pokemon Platinum:* A special version of Diamond/Pearl. Certain story beats are slightly changed, giving more focus to Giratina, a mysterious Pokemon who influences a chaotic realm. Gym layouts are changed up, new characters are introduced, a new Battle Frontier is added, and the online Union Room has more minigames. Also, certain Pokemon (like Giratina) gain special new forms. (Major characters: Looker) *Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver:* Remakes of Gold/Silver for Gen-4. Certain story beats are slightly tweaked (to give more focus to Lugia and Ho-oh), a new Pokeathlon mode is added, a customizable Safari Zone appears, and your lead Pokemon can follow you on the overworld. (Trainers: Ethan or Lyra) *Pokemon Black/White:* A journey across Unova, a region inspired by New York. You and friends Bianca and Cheren will come to blows with Team Plasma, a group trying to force humans and Pokemon apart - and in these encounters, you all will realize what you want to do. The mascot Pokemon for these are Reshiram, the Pokemon of truth, and Zekrom, the Pokemon of ideals. This region features its own plethora of new Pokemon, Triple and Rotation Battles, Pokemon Musicals, Join Avenue, cycling seasons, infinite TM usage, and more. For a time, it also connected to a special online site called Pokemon Dream World. (Trainers: Hilbert or Hilda) (Starters: Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott) (Major characters: Professor Juniper, Cheren, Bianca, N, Alder) *Pokemon Black 2/White 2:* Direct sequels to Black/White, with new protagonists and a new friend, Hugh, with a new conflict against Neo Team Plasma that will lead everyone to the frigid Pokemon, Kyurem. Many new locations appear across Unova, as well as PokeStar Studios (use special battles to film movies) and Pokemon World Tournament (featuring prominent characters from previous games). It also connects with Pokemon Dream Radar, which unlocks special forms for certain Pokemon. (Trainers: Nate or Rosa) (Major characters: Hugh, Colress) *Pokemon X/Y:* A journey across Kalos, a region inspired by France. You and your new friend group assist Professor Sycamore in studying the phenomenon of Mega Evolution, come into conflict with the villainous (and overly stylish) Team Flare, and eventually reach Xerneas, the Pokemon that renews life, or Yveltal, the Pokemon that absorbs life. This full-3D game comes with Mega Evolution, the new Fairy type, wild horde battles, Inverse Battle mode, outfit and hair customization, Pokemon-Amie (with a new Affection stat), and Super Training. (Trainers: Calem or Serena) (Starters: Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie) (Major characters: Professor Sycamore, Shauna, Tierno, Trevor) *Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire:* Remakes of Ruby/Sapphire, set in a Hoenn that also bears the Mega Evolution phenomenon - as well as Groudon's and Kyogre's Primal Reversion. New layouts to certain areas, a soaring mode atop Mega Latios/Latias, a special Delta Episode, and more await. (Major characters: Zinnia) (to be cont'd)

*Pokemon Sun/Moon:* A journey across Alola, a region inspired by Hawaii. Having just moved here, you become friends with Hau, the son of an island kahuna, and Lillie, a girl trying to protect a Cosmog she calls "Nebby". You'll partake in Alola's Island Challenge, going through the trials set by the captains, battling with mighty Totem Pokemon, and facing the island kahunas. You'll also encounter the slighted misfits of Team Skull, the nature preservationists of the Aether Foundation, the otherworldly Ultra Beasts, and eventually the legendary Solgaleo or Lunala. Additions include Z-Moves (super moves using Z-Crystals), regional forms for old Pokemon (like a long-necked Exeggutor, or a torch-dancing Marowak), Poke Rides (replacing the need for HM moves in the overworld), the Poke Pelago, the four-way Battle Royal mode, a QR Scanner, an online Festival Plaza, and Hyper Training (a way to max out the talents/IVs of stats). This also adds forms for Greninja (Ash-Greninja), Pikachu (Cap Pikachu), and Zygarde (10% Forme and Complete Forme). (Trainers: Elio or Selene) (Starters: Rowlet, Litten, Popplio) (Major characters: Professor Kukui, Hau, Lillie) *Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon:* Alternate retellings of Sun/Moon, with the added involvement of otherworldly people from the Ultra Recon Squad, and new focus on the mysterious light-eating Necrozma. You can now ride Solgaleo/Lunala to different reaches of Ultra Space, surf on Mantine between islands to earn BP, encounter new Ultra Beast species, unlock new unique Z-Moves, partake in the Battle Agency, and fight alternate versions of past villains in Episode RR. *Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu!/Let's Go, Eevee!:* These special Yellow remakes use a catching system straight from Pokemon GO. Find wild Pokemon on the field, then throw Poke Balls at just the right time to raise your chances of a successful catch. You and new rival Trace will see many new changes to Kanto and its story. This also has a two-player mode, the ability to ride on certain Pokemon, and Master Trainers (with one-on-one battles of a specific Pokemon specie). It also has connectivity with Pokemon GO to transfer in Pokemon from there, which also unlocks the Mythical Pokemon Meltan and Melmetal. (Trainers: Chase or Elaine) (Starter: Pikachu or Eevee) (Major characters: Trace) *Pokemon Sword/Shield:* A journey across Galar, a region inspired by the United Kingdom. Prompted by Champion Leon and his brother Hop, you'll take on the Gym Challenge in big stadiums that harness the Dynamax phenomenon. Along the way, you'll help Sonia, granddaughter of Professor Magnolia, uncover the region's greatest legend, leading you to the truth of Zacian, master of the sword, and Zamazenta, master of defense. This adds Dynamax (a temporary state that boosts HP and changes moves to Max Moves, all with added effects), an expansive Wild Area with various sectors with their own weathers and available Pokemon, access to your Pokemon boxes at any place, Max Raid Battles where players can team up against a strong opponent, Poke Jobs to boost experience or base points, a Pokemon Camp where you can play with your Pokemon and cook curry, separate one-time-use TRs, and more. (Trainers: Victor or Gloria) (Starters: Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble) (Major characters: Sonia, Professor Magnolia, Hop, Bede, Marnie, Chairman Rose, Leon) *Expansion Pass: The Isle of Armor + The Crown Tundra:* DLC for Sword/Shield. This grants access to two completely new areas. The Isle of Armor has a new training arc featuring the trainee Kubfu, which will see it evolve into an Urshifu of one of two styles. This also features Cram-o-Matic, which lets you convert multiple items into a more valuable item, and many new moves that can be taught in exchange for Armorite Ore. The Crown Tundra has you investigate various Legendary Pokemon - like the regional forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, the golems Regieleki and Regidrago, and the mysterious crown-topped Calyrex. It also boasts Dynamax Adventures, which let up to four players take on successive Dynamax Pokemon, and the Galarian Star Tournament, which brings Sword/Shield characters together for team battles. (Major characters: Master Mustard, Klara/Avery, Peony, Peonia) *Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl:* Remakes of Diamond/Pearl. *Pokemon Legends: Arceus:* A special adventure set in Sinnoh's past, back when it was called Hisui. Here, the Galaxy Expedition Team will recruit you to help compile the world's first Pokedex. A lot of the gameplay is changed - you can catch Pokemon on the field (if you're stealthy enough), turn frequency is affected by Speed stats, certain statuses are changed (Drowsy and Frostbite), and moves can be tweaked with Agile Style and Strong Style. Your primary goal is to complete multiple tasks for each Pokemon to officially write their Pokedex entries. (Trainers: Rei or Akari) (Starters: Rowlet, Cyndaquil, Oshawott) (Major characters: Professor Laventon, Commander Kamado, Captain Cyllene, Amadan, Irida, Volo) *Pokemon Scarlet/Violet:* A journey across Paldea, a region inspired by the Iberian peninsula (Spain and Portugal). As a new student of Naranja Academy/Uva Academy, you'll explore the whole region in your independent studies - the Treasure Hunt. Take on the Gym Challenge to match up with the battle-loving Nemona, help the culinary talent Arven hunt down the Herba Mystica guarded by Titan Pokemon, and help the shy Penny rout the bases owned by the delinquents of Team Star. Astride the primal Koraidon or the robotic Miraidon, the order in which you tackle the objectives is up to you to figure out. This adds Terastallization (overrides type while retaining natural same type attack bonuses), picnics where you can make sandwiches to gain bonuses and even find Pokemon Eggs, Tera Raid Battles with multiple players fighting a single strong opponent all at once, and more. (Trainers: Florian or Juliana) (Starters: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly) (Major characters: Director Clavell, Nemona, Arven, Penny, Geeta, Professor Sada, Professor Turo) *The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero: The Teal Mask + The Indigo Disk* (not shown here): DLC for Scarlet/Violet. This features a story expansion that spans two new big areas. The Teal Mask is a school trip alongside Blueberry Academy students Kieran and Carmine, set in Kitakami. Here, you'll learn about the land's history with the Loyal Three and the feared Ogerpon, and assist the photographer Perrin in tracking down a Bloodmoon Beast. The Indigo Disk has you become an exchange student at Blueberry Academy, where you'll join its BB League, take on various tasks in the man-made environment of the Terarium, and eventually seek out the greatest treasure of Area Zero - Terapagos. A special epilogue is unlocked with a special Mystery Gift item, uncovering the final mystery left in Kitakami. (Major characters: Kieran, Carmine, Briar, Director Cyrano) *Pokemon Legends: Z-A:* Nothing much is known about this yet, aside from documents of redevelopment plans for Lumiose City.

To be fair you could probably play the Pokémon series from the start and get plenty of views from it. There are 9 generations now with and most of the games can be found on the Switch with the Switch Online feature. So you don’t play the same game multiple times though understand that each generation has two games that are exactly the same with the exception of a couple version exclusive Pokémon, but they also do sometimes get a second release in that generation that is the definitive version. Like gen 1 you should play Yellow, gen 2 Crystal, gen 3 Emerald, gen 4 Platinum, gen 5 play both versions 1 & 2 of either, Gen 7 Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, gen 8 play Sword or Shield & their DLC and Legends Arceus, then Gen 9 Scarlet or Violet and their DLC. The third game for Gen 9 comes out next year.
