So she is training people to be the type of salesman people don't like, amazing.
@KevinHunter

Yes, exactly. She's focusing on the worst traits a salesman can exhibit while interacting with a potential client. The "don't let your customer lead you" is some of the dumbest advice I've ever heard given to a car salesman. Funny thing is... she admits what a terrible reputation the car business has, and then teaches the techniques that made it that way. Pretty sad.

I honestly have to laugh at the advice to never let there be silence between you and the customer I realize I'm a typical, but I am an introvert The best way to sell me on something, is to leave me alone and let me sell it to myself If I feel pressure for any reason, I will find an excuse to not buy unless I absolutely have to have the product

The dealerships in Hazard, KY are owned by 1 man. They won't work on a vehicle if it wasn't purchased there. Unless it's a high dollar repair. Those go to the front of the line. I consider that BAD customer service as well. Thanks and I love your videos!! I catch myself binge watching them, lol

I just got hired as a car salesman .my boss is honest man and he told me customer service is our number one priority. Listen to the customer needs and ask simple questions what they like to have . If a customer says I'll be back or think about it.. compiment them nice hand shake or fist bump .. and thank them for stopping by. No nonsense tactics.. honestly best

A customer that follows the salesman is a follower vs a leader. I had a car salesman walk away from me and sit down, wanting me to follow him. I told the sales person, I guess you do not want my business. Walking away and leaving, you should have heard the salesman trying to get me to return !

I was driving through a new car lot a couple of decades ago and it was a cold day in January. A salesman came out of the building and started chasing after my car so I went back and forth across the lot to play with him and he chased me all over the lot. PATHETIC.

Absolute truth. Most people go along with those tactics. Your viewers are not average buyers. My first dealership I let a customer leave thinking nothing of it. The GM was so angry. He said "Next time you do that, you can follow them off the lot!". In front of everyone I said "You can only fire me once ". He never threatened me again. I am a car buying coach. I help people get clarity, explain the appraisal and explain the finance options. I want to quit everyday, but people need my service.

What i watch today was so on point. Back in the early 80's I went to a dealership recommended by a friend that was 25, maybe 30 miles down the road. Not only did the owner/selllsman treat me right, help me get the car I wanted (he got the color I wanted from another dealership) he also treated his workers like family. If I came by on Friday's around noon there was a home cook meal for everyone . Buyer's, sellspersons, machinists. Great man which I continued going to until moved. Thanks for all that you do to help in buying a car.

Hey Kevin and Elizabeth! I’ve been test driving and researching vehicles for a year now and am finally ready to buy my first new truck. In my experience so far I have been to over two dozen domestic make dealerships and each of them but two were exactly like the sleazy list. Not sure if it’s a coincidence, but the few Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Subaru dealerships I went to were all fantastic and I felt good about myself after meeting with them.

Thanks, Dr Dan! Sometimes we wonder if we should hit a given subject, but tons of requests come in all the time from car buyers. We do our best. Lots of thought, planning, etc goes into what we do. Big dealers are a bit worried, and they should be. Their business model has to change, and the moment these influences pushing the car prices up are off... there's going to be big days of reckoning as buyers are back in the drivers seat, and will no longer accept the BS.

I’m a car salesman, but I’m an order taker/tour-guide. My goal is to honor my clients by answering their questions honestly to best respect them. As a result, God has blessed me by bringing good people my way who have bought from me. I don’t really “sell” anything. People choose to buy from me when I demonstrate our product can help them as I take their orders (as cheesy as it sounds) as a humble servant. I love your channel, and I’m grateful for your channel!

I am currently following Kevin's game plan and have been pre-approved for a car loan through my credit union, I know what my trade-in is worth and I went to test drive two cars today that I am considering. I completely avoided discussing price and monthly payments. I was fully expecting to get push back about just test driving but got none. I will test drive two more cars (I am waiting to get a little closer to the end of the month). One of the next two dealerships is a "no-haggle" and after those test drives, I will be making a decision and going for "Serious Leverage." Thanks so much for the advice, I am learning a lot during this process.

This is great listening... I would have fun with her. Because I now walk in to the dealership, tell them what they need to know about me and my needs/wants following up with I don't care what the cost of the car is, I want to know what is the Out The Door (OTD) price and I am not buying anything today, but I will take your OTD price and compare it to other dealers to make sure you do what you are saying of guaranteeing the lowest price. I also tell jokes of some of the salesmen tricks they use. I had several salesmen laughing while I was handing it to the salesman and his boss the other day 😜

The best salesman I ever dealt with was I'll call him "Bob". I entered the showroom, he came over introduced himself and asked me to feel free tom look around and when I needed help to please ask for him. Bob left me alone while I browsed. When I was ready I got Bobs attention and we made a great deal. He never pressured me, he answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable. we purchased 2 new & 1 used car from him and I recommended him to my whole family and friends. I know he sold at least 8 more cars to the people I recommended. When a salesperson does to me what that lady is teaching I immediately tell then to cut it out and back off with the games. I have always dealt on my terms. If they kept up the pressure I would just simply leave.

To expand on something I saw in the comments... Beware of Auto Malls where various dealerships are owned by the same person/company. They are less likely to deal to keep you from shopping other brands/dealerships when they know the sister dealerships will hold the line on dealer markups. Of course, do your research on various brands of comparable cars ahead of time anyway.

I did a new car sales about 15+ years ago. Didn't last there more than fee months. Not because I was a bad salesman as much I couldn't handle the management style. Boy oh boy if you let a customer walk off the lot. Your ass will be handed to you. Boy oh Boy if you don't do the song and dance with the customer. I can say 8 out of 10 sales people WANT to be good sales people and service the customer, but the management in ALL dealerships are bunch of A-Holes sitting in what they call the TOWER, grinding the sales staff to the ground, forcing us to do everything THEIR way. It's a game they can't get out of. This is the main reason for the high turn over in the field

Thank you for the education you provide in an industry where so many seem concerned with nickel, diming and quartering you. How can the average person know much things unless someone immersed in the industry can talk to you about it so you can learn what to expect? I have just repaired my 2005 GMC Jimmy 4 x 4 and I know well enough never to trade it in because the dealership would only offer me a dozen doughnuts for it and any cash or credit will be miles below what the market value of it is. I have lately been seduced by the BMW "bug" and have my eyes on two types. 1. The BMW x5 with an inline 6 engine, specifically the B58. I know I cannot afford it new, and they depreciate hard so I am thinking of a sweet spot of around 2019 model. Can you tell me what is a fair price for such a beautiful beast? I've done my research and just want to see how close my figures are to your assessment. 2. BMW x3 iDrive 40 with the same B58 inline 6 engine and I am in BC in the GVA.

Not only have I been through the bull of over 50 Dealerships. I have been fair with every salesman. Had to stand or walk for Hours due to "No comfortable chair in the Dealership's" . Walk out the door many times,due to unchanging prices,no negotiation at all,or very little. I even was thrown off of the sales floor , because I Questioned the Financial person,who raised the price (That he already counter offered) ,even the Salesman got mad at him for ,"blowing the deal". And I was Blocked by that Dealership from giving a comment to others ,on CarGurus site. The Dealership advertised later,a $2010 higher price,and claimed the price was cut by iver $400 .. Dealership's in my 50- mile area all charge $300 doc fees and $990-$995 dealer fee for detailing and fixing any tires or battery that is needed. Even when nothing was done,car is still dirty . Wow !!! And many change the numbers in financing as much as $2590 .

I just dealt with a skeevy dealer, found a car i had researched, was interested in and could afford - told him I had 20% down and showed him the blue book price, no trade initially offered on the deal. Told him no front loaded insurances, no extended warranties etc. Did the credit app, he messaged me back via text that the bank was willing to give me prime rate (no rate given) and as long as I was ok with bi-weekly he could get me at / under the price ceiling payment i'd stated. So I told him i'd think about it and gave him 5 days to produce details He kept badgering me to sign, BUT never told me the interest rate, never told me the final price, age of the car, trim model, or length of term. When 5 days was up and I still had NOTHING beyond your payment is xxx bi-weekly, I told him no thank you. He immediately came back and said ' what if I give you 3 months no payment ' with no information. I still said no. The best takeaway that these videos have given is the power move, say no, leave.

Ms. Elizabeth and Mr. Hunter, I spent 20 yrs as a corporate sales person. I represented a company that sold word finishing products, custom loose leaf binders, laminating machines among other products. I wasn't with a prospect to just close a sale, I was there because the prospect had a problem that I was to solve. I have found that the car dealers I do business with are very different then the ones you describe. I know the people at the dealership, they know me. I also have my vehicles serviced at the dealer. When I get my vehicles serviced it is not just a service visit, I am visiting friends. I choose to do business with smaller family owned dealers. That could be the difference in my experience. One of the dealers has been in business 90 years. I love your videos, but my personal experiences have been different. Oh, I still negotiate the sale.

The last car I bought, the dealership would not give me my keys back after they assessed its value for trade in. I kept asking for the keys and nobody knew where they were. So after a while i went to the counter and asked the person there if I could use their phone, she said she could dial the number, who did I want to call. I had my cellphone in my pocket, but I told her to call the police, to tell them someone was in the process of stealing my call. Every manager in the building came running and after I got VERY loud I received a better deal than I thought I would.

The funny thing is that buying SHOULD be an enjoyable experience. I have gone to see high end stereo speakers for my turntable setup, or subwoofers for my home theater at places like Magnolia at Best Buy and independent shops. The best salespeople share your love of the gear, listen to what you are looking for, and show knowledge of the subject. These people make you feel comfortable and valued. I'm potentially spending thousands of dollars on this stuff and when I feel ready to make a purchase I could screw them and buy the same speakers online but if they spent a good deal of time with me, I'll buy at the store as I have built a relationship with them. Car salespeople? No mercy whatsoever. I prefer to buy privately to not deal with them. Buying a new Toyota or Lexus or whatever you plan on driving for the next 10 years should be fun and enjoyable but instead it is like hanging out with con artists and thieves who lie constantly, make up figures etc to screw you over. This lady acknowledges this several times yet teach salespeople to keep doing the very same thing that earned them that reputation. Do they really make that much more money by ripping people off, or are they so set in their ways that they can't imagine that doing business ethically is not only the right thing to do but can ultimately be more profitable?

If a salesperson uses their skills and knowledge to increase profits, and push products for any company, then that company should be liable for the “salespersons” salary. But they dont. The company that the “salesperson” is working for, actually gets the bulk of their salaries paid by “commission”. The actual “salaries” are very small, usually minimum wage…so they depend heavily on those “commisions” . The average commission for a car sale is about $250. And the average salary for a salesman is about 40,000 a year. Not a hell of a lot. What i usually do is pull the salesman to the side and tell him if he can get me this car or truck for this price, i will pay him $400 cash on the side. NO games. NO bullshit fees. NO padding the deal. Has worked great for me so far.

I think most people don't really care what the salesperson makes per car and would rather not have to personally tip them. Hence channels like this one. But if you've found a method that works for you, that's definitely good.

I think the point she was trying to make at first is if a salesperson just shows a customer everything cool and doesn’t help them narrow down their search and find a car that fits their needs, customers get frustrated and want to leave. It’s too many choices. What a customer says they want vs what they really want and need are two different things. I’ve had customers tell me they wanted a 3rd row suv and found out through narrowing it down that they just wanted a new van with more tech and really didn’t want a 3rd row suv.
@KevinHunter
@KevinHunter 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with helping a customer narrow down their choices. That's actually what a very good waitress or waiter does in a restaurant. You say you're looking for a burger, they tell you which options you have, and even what they recommend if you ask. That's very helpful, yet car dealers mock that style as being a weak "order taker." What are your thoughts? Doesn't that sound like a much friendlier style of dealing with people?
@ryanarchibald2907

@@KevinHunter I dont think using overworked, poverty wage earning, and abused resturant workers who are quiting in mass should be the ideal worker for a sales profession. They get mistreated all day, beg for tips , and follow up dozens of times in a very short time peroid. Most US car shoppers would freak out at that kind of follow up. The idea of an "order taker" is someone unable to build value/ find wants and needs to earn a sale. They aren't a consultant. It's not an insult saying "they aren't a shark killer closer" but just that they don't recognize that buyers have a process and don't have a process to do their job which is to help you find a car ! I want an active professional if I'm going to spend that much on the 2nd biggest financial decision of my life, a consultant. Not someone who is going to waste my time and not take the time to help me. It's all semantics anyway or maybe it's a regional insult . I've worked in a dealership for years and only really heard one guy called that once and it was because he would spend a lot of time with customers with a clipboard like a waiter and never seemed to have much luck and his customers didn't seem to thrilled either.

I think you guys are missing the point she's trying to convey in this training. She's saying, "You're not an order taker or a tour guide." to tell them to not provide customer service... she's telling sales people that to instill confidence in them to have a confident demeanor when in front of the customer. You cannot sell something you're not 100% sold on yourself. If you lack confidence in presenting a product the customer is going to lack confidence in purchasing. A sales process is basically a transfer of confidence from the seller to the buyer.
