@cleverman3832 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I want to see the genuine first playthrough experience, and this is essentially an entirely new type of FromSoft game, so there isn't really a well established "correct way" to do it. I imagine it's going to be a lot like the Death Stranding playthrough where Mapo figures out how he wants to showcase it as he goes along and tries some different things and eventually figures out something that works perfectly for everyone, Mapo getting to play exactly how he wanted and us getting a fantastic viewing experience.
@thomegatherion9242 жыл бұрын
Agree. Open world games are a fair bit about exploration and taking your time to figure things out. Skipping all of that optional stuff for the sake of progressing through the main story faster wouldn't do that game any justice.

I just think Fromsoftware games are perfect for an open world setting. Instead of just collectibles, you get new weapons, weapon skills, summons, armor, spells, amulets, bosses, and just cool items in general. You found him! I was waiting for this moment. On the note of open world games being overfilled with objective markers, I love this map more than Horizon Forbidden West's, precisely for that reason. It is so overwhelming in a bad way in that game that I ended up leaving most of the side content halfway through and making a beeline for a very lengthy main quest. I did that game in 35 hours. Whilst in Elden Ring, I've put about 24 hours so far and only stayed in Limgrave, and I'm 100% certain there's more to discover; I am constantly feeling the need to explore.
@cleverman3832 жыл бұрын
A well designed open world like Elden Ring doesn't need "points of interest" marked on the map for you, because wherever you go, you can constantly see interesting things in the distance that are your own points of interest! A creepy graveyard down the road, a path up a mountain, a church on top of a hill, a wandering group of monsters... The world itself should be making you feel "I want to go see that!" not relying on markings on map that tell you that supposedly something is there.
@sunsetgradient2 жыл бұрын

The constant handholding in Horizon Forbidden West is the reason I sold it before finishing it so I could get Elden Ring. The world in that game is gorgeous, but the map was so convoluted and exhausting, and the side quests were so tedious. Not to mention the extremely long-winded dialogue that made quests less appealing.

1:51:10 This right here! Exactly my problem with other modern open world games, like Assassin's Creed or so. From the start, the map is full of icons, question marks and what not. It suggests that there is something to discover, you just don't know what.But there is something! For a completionist like me, it is more like work to discover and reveal those spots than fun to explore the world. In Elden Ring there just visual hints if you have discovered the map first, like a ruin or telescope. But no icons hinting at something! You have to look for yourself if there even is something and if there is and you can even figure out what it requires you to do, than it is so much more rewarding! I was a bit skeptic about the open world but I can say, this is my favorite open world game because how it handles the map and exploring diffrently than other games! GOTY!
@SolProxy2 жыл бұрын
Small tip that the game told you already, remember that you can still sometimes effectively wield strength-based weapons if you two-hand them, you don't always need the flask for strength unless the required strength is really high. Also it does more damage of course.
