Something I hate about this story is that everyone even in tech has somehow failed to mention the obvious part in that this is a closed loop evaporitive cooling system. Yeah its a lot of water, but far from the only data center that does this and the water is not wasted LOL.

Agree 100%. Ez to find someone motive when you look at when they say/dont say. Wish youtubers would fix common sense things as info flows in from mainstream media. (Not hating on youtubers haha)

It’s called heat exchangers …. They move water into the hot spots and back to another heat exchanger . While could be a big heat sink in the ocean … so they don’t even need pump sea water anywhere just there closed loop system.

Kinda related but Bitcoin mining uses as much electricity as the country of Belgium does. Compute is expensive, at least training GTP 3 is useful. Mining bitcoin is just loads of computers solving an arbitrary problem to make someone money

I'm usually environmentally conscious and favor sustainability.. But common! This article's claims are obvious BS. It is NOT the equivalent of poring water on the ground, the water in such cooling systems gets re-used repeatedly. Also, you poor a lot more water than that on the ground, any time you water your actual garden. Water doesn't just vanish, it goes into the groundwater, or it evaporates into the air and falls later as rain. AI is no worse for the environment, than anything else we run on servers, the biggest issue is just sheer energy costs.
