I'm so shocked that a making of documentary was never made of this film! I remember it's initial airing in '84, & my old man taping it, commercials & all, so it could be played each Christmas Eve! I still have that vhs, but sadly, I doubt it would playback again! Thanks for giving this great film the attention it deserves! God Bless & Merry Christmas!

What a lovely memory and the VHS (adverts and everything!) sounds absolutely incredible. I know you said it’s a bit decrepit now but you could possibly get it converted into a digital format? 🧐 Thank you for the kind words and merry Christmas 🤶 🎄🧑🎄 “God bless us every one”!!

I visit Shrewsbury for the first time last weekend and realised they had filmed this amazing film there. I am going back now I know more about the locations etc. I just watched both your presentation on this and thanks for the clarity on the house which is Scrooge’s as number 6 and not 7 as internet info suggests. Great content and precision to detail on facts and info. Can now go back and much more informed for my next visit 🤩.

You must visit. English history was changed 4 miles away in 1403 when Henry IV stayed at the Henry Tudor House in Shrewsbury a few nights before. It's a bar restaurant now!

@thirdratecontent585 When this movie first aired, it was sponsored by IBM Computers. Mostly, if not all, IBM commercials throughout the airing. I've often wondered if Bill Murphy's movie "Scrooged" was the idea for their production? The movies, "live version", was sponsored by ICB network or something like that. It also seemed to have easter eggs, as a nod. Just curious, from one "A Christmas Carol" fan to another. Have you also ever considered that?

Hi there! I stumbled upon your video purely by accident, but just wanted to say that I lived in Shrewsbury until 1996 and remember the filming of A Christmas Carol quite well. Thanks for all the great memories, this certainly brought a few nice ones back. Regarding your question about the Lady Chapel churchyard and whether or not there were railings there in 1984, I can help you out with that one. I used to sit in that churchyard in 1984 and read a book during good weather and can confirm that there were no railings there at that time. I think the original railings were ripped out for the war effort in WW2 when metal was badly needed. Hope this helps ! Cheers

Hi Pam. 👍 I’m so happy you stumbled across my video and enjoyed watching it, hearing this makes it a worthwhile endeavour tho tbf I really enjoyed making it. It must’ve been such an amazing experience to actually see the movie being shot. You’re answer to the question of the railings in lady chapel churchyard finally puts that to bed and is much appreciated by me (and anyone who reads it I’m sure). Anyway thanks for the kind words and correspondence 👍👍

I remember these days well. I did a few road signs for 'Clockwork' a John Cleese film part made on the Oswestry outskirts so I thought I was The Man for the signwriting on this too. Unfortunately I got bladdered on the Saturday afternoon when they were interviewing potential local craftspeople on Town Walls. I was a slurring idiot and got nothing. To get back I drove into town at 3am to have some of that poultry hanging up in The Square. Hopeless, ringfenced security all round. They won
@thirdratecontent585 Жыл бұрын
You can’t win them all Stephen. Tho no free Turkey sucks! (Or is that clucks? 🤣) And the John Cleese movie is decent (other than the awkward scene with the Brummie bloke in the woods and an awful and very telling for the time public school joke). So did you do the road signs? Like the one near nescliffe? I did at one time consider covering the scenes nearby. Tho I’ve lost my notes now (and haven’t watched the dvd in years lol) ps I’ve talked to A Davies (master joiner lol) who got a job making sets for Christmas Carol (it was after I made the films tho) also the stories he told me probably wouldn’t be suitable for KZbin 🤣🤣 Thanks for the comment once again 👍

@@thirdratecontent585 Oh you've set me off! There was a very desirable MILF barmaid in the 3 Fishes {no not Carol Decker} who I witnessed being chatted up by a bunch of professional film crew. I always wondered how that went! The Clockwise stuff was in a caravan park somewhere on the road to Knockin. I watched a whole scene being filmed with 3 moggy minors sliced at different angles which included a bride! There is no bride scene in the film! A cutting room floor job. Amazing the money wasted but as long as the budget gets used and doesn't go over

Very interesting video. I always imagined this version was shot in the US simply because of George C Scott. As for the railings I think they would have been removed n the 1940s as part of the war effort.

The way I went was walk over the Castlewalk footbridge from Castlefields to Monkmoor and turn right as soon as you come of the bridge then walk for half a mile along a footpath (quite muddy) you can’t miss them. Middle arch is where the filming happened. Underdale Rd is probably the closest street but it’s not nearby. Thanks for the interest 👍
