In this video I have a look at a customer's 2005 Chrysler Town & Country 3.8 with a list of problems. This is a vehicle that gets loaned out to folks that need a car. I am pretty certain it gets returned to its owner with a few stories to tell. Let's see what we find.
-Enjoy!

*PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT* - If you are watching this video on 1/29/25 or 1/30/25 and you don't fall asleep before the end screen and you see that part II is listed as "Members Only." *DO NOT PANIC* Do not send me nasty emails, don't unsubscribe, don't tell me I am an asshole or a sellout in the comments and *DO NOT CALL MY SHOP* to tell me you can't watch it. The part II will be posted on the 31st at 5pm just like *I ALWAYS DO.* The reason it says members only is because there are some folks that support our KZbin channel by becoming a "KZbin Member" and it gives them early access to all videos I put out. Take a breath, slow down, everything is gonna be OK. Nothing has changed. It's still free like it has been for the past 10 years. Thanks for watching! -Eric O. Long ago, I had a '79 Z28, and one day I came out to find a puddle of oil underneath it. I thought the rear main seal let go, so after adding a quart of oil, I took it to my brother-in-law's house because he had a lift. We pulled the Turbo 350 out to find the back of the block dry---all of that work to find out it was just the oil pressure sender. On small block Chevys, they always leaked where the plastic part was crimped to the metal bottom. That was a learning experience for sure.

I swore off working on cars when I lived in the midwest, then I moved down south and begrudgingly worked on a company van for the my boss in a non-mehanical job I had. I loved working on cars again and went into the field professionally. Every now and then I get a rust heap from IL, MI or MN and am reminded how good I have it down here.

29:35 I just had the pleasure of working on a southern car while I live in the frozen northeast. Inherited an '04 Dakota from my dad that lived most of it's life in Florida. Had to do some basic repairs... Brakes, ball joints, water pump etc. It's like working on a new car. Nothing rusty, nothing frozen, nothing broke. You can bet your last nickel that I sprayed down everything with surface shield before the snow and salt started hitting the roads. I'd like this truck to stick around for a long time, it still looks new!

*11:17** ~ Dont forget the timing cover oil seal (which can be removed and reinstalled via a special tool) from the front and not the rear of the cover. Another leak might be the transmission cooler return lines. the coolant seems to emanate from lower metal radiator hose to engine by the coolant pump. Bummer on the AC condenser mistreated that way. She needs love. I know these inside and out, find them extremely easy to work on. (for instance no cross member under the oil pan) crank bearings you can replace with the engine installed. a A604 41TE (AE on the AWD's) transmission with no pesky bands to get in the way. Very simple despite close confines.* *Just picked up a '02 T&C AWD with 129k for $800 that has no egr so I can run dual alternators for the lithium prismatic battery cells, I normally pay around $500 and with minimal parts if needed and keep them almost forever. (though I now throw allot more by comparison into these in high grade upgrades and custom work, that I might drive around the country with a trailer at 7k with 7k watts solar [double rated] with a shop of tools to baby her along the way, (all heavily modded mainly to the listeners add a 40k lb truck transmission cooler and temp gauge run weight distribution and anti-sway bars and keep it safe...ok?.)* *You have a video of an engine replacement (this one right?) To me these are like a Classic mopar Charger for me. I keep parts in my bedroom to give you an idea. **17:32** NY?? then it might not have the EGR also and is really great if you want to live in her.*

Shops in the late 70s in Western Washington were owned by tough old men. They had country and western from the 60s and 70s going on in both I worked at. I miss those old guys. They were so good at rebuilding Q jets , setting points, timing, timing small block Chevys with worn timing gears by ear…… well, now I am one of those old timerss

Watch all your vids Dr. O!! You always make me get thinking!! For music while you make youtube videos I suggest wireless earbuds. I only wear one at a time at a low level so I can be aware of my environment but also listen. Only one dies and the other stays charging until I need to change them out. I listen to music 24 hours a day and no one can even tell. Just a tip

As you were spreading the oil soak I thought you were saying here kitty kitty instead of here chicken chicken (or whatever). Any way since you have a shop cat reminds me of when mine was a kitten, until he became a house cat. I had left a pile of oil soak in a corner one day because a hydraulic hose broke and spewed oil all over. I went to clean it up the next day and he had used it for a litter box. I laughed my fool head off. His litter box was just a couple of feet away. He was only about 7 weeks old and he didn't know the difference. I kept the oil soak cleaned up after that. Hate to bore you but the way you were spreading the oil soak made me laugh and remember.

Thanks for the video. I have 2 of these vans of the same vintage which have been good for us. I wasn't aware they ever came with TPMS. Glad mine doesn't have them, they area PIA.

I have a 2007 3.8 Grand Caravan. The Oil Pan gasket on those leak over time. A new one will help keep the metal rusting again! 🤣🤣 Easy job!

You could always get a piece of hard Styrofoam insulation from the big box store and maybe use a velcro strip to baffle Josh's noise! You forget to mention the very clear dinging sound ! You can always cover that !! IF YOU WANTED TO ! 😮😮😮

Hey, Eric. I was just working on my 1973 Dodge power wagon W 200. Working on rewiring taillights cause they were getting caught on stuff. Anyway, it's not rotted out and it's really old. Old cars and trucks are cool. New stuff sucks.

I'm a big fan of efficiency, the more experience you have the better you are at judging when to take a chance. Well done. Oh yeah, play music.

Any time I watch Eric O. doing a SMA video is a Great Learning episode? And it’s well worth my time to stop and watch a Great Diagnostic guy work his magic?

Hey Eric, regarding the "worst oaert" of making KZbin videos... how about having a single earpiece in one ear with your music plying? You'll be able to still hear whats happening in the shop, hear the dulcit tones of Mrs O, keep your soul happy with the tunes and keep the viewers amd youtube falgorithm happy. Just a thought.

I don't think any less of your of your skill set, I was happy to hear you {of all people} tell it like it is, when it comes to those active wspd sensors. They are a P.I.T.A. Still the best Auto Mechanic/Technician out there. I know this, because I've been doing this job for 35+ years.

Eric, when you and Mrs O get ready to call it quits in NY we would love to have you down here in my little town of Conover. Every time I see you test drive a vehicle, your town looks so much like mine.

Totally understand the replace method at times, experience gave you the heads up and flat rate baby, and you save your brain from exploding 😊 Funny you mention the Ford, totally remember that recall, Escapes had them too, wiring would get destroyed by the brake fluid.

I was in the parts department at a Ford dealer when that house burning brake switch things happened. Not a great couple of years between that, the early focus having a wheel fall off, and the Firestone recall that want remotely Firestone's fault. Oh and the 5.4s shooting spark plugs out of the heads, the self disassembling van transmissions, and that ugly "new" tbird that overheated because they forgot to provide any airflow to the cooling system. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things. It was a while ago.
