Many people are made to feel hopeless, depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed by life’s suffering. You need something to shield yourself from that. Meaning is that shield.
Meaning is the instinct that helps you to guide yourself through catastrophe, and it can be found in the adoption of responsibility. This is a constant refrain in my book, 12 Rules for Life.
You can find the book at the following link: www.jordanbpeterson.com/12-ru...
Thank you, @Lewis Howes, for this interview. The full version can be found on his channel: • Jordan Peterson on Res... .

I started trying to heal in 2015. And I got my shot in 2020. I overcame the anxiety of standing still in 2021. Cultivated patience. Made mistakes but finally cleaned my consciousness. I was making amends consciously. But I had to open my subconscious and go alll the way down. Cry it out. Because the autonomic brain HAS NO SENSE OF TIME. AND YOU CARRY THAT SHAME EVERYWHERE. THATS CALLED BAGGAGE. Only Narcissistic people that achieve Zen state can come back and heal others.

Read about John Henry Newman. He used to say something like that. "I will answer that I believe in God because I have faith in myself, because it seems impossible to have faith in my own existence, of which I am completely sure, without believing the existence of Someone who lives in my conscience as a personal being who sees and judges everything".

I can confirm my conscience is clear and at the same time, I'm unhappy and very lonely. I've always been told doing the right thing isn't always the easy road - more often the harder road and I have to agree. Loneliness is horrible - but it's caused by the inability to trust. That's a really hard one to overcome and I worry I'll settle for a solitary life over taking the risk of another betrayal.

No need to justify your existence, or find meaning in life. We are animals. Guilt and shame are strictly human concepts. Do this: expect the worst from others and the best from yourself. Even if you fail, you will have a clear conscience and you will not suffer the disappointment and negativity that come with set backs or failed relationships. Carry on.

I think this is good information I will add that there will be times we will due to mental health not be able to care for self and may need help. I worked in a business thirty years and had a breakdown due to complex trauma in childhood and fell bad emotionally I had abreaction and it has taken me 3 years to heal and reformat my life. So PTSD and Complex PTSD suffers know to go get help. The amount of people that have had violence and sexual violations in childhood and others and disassociating and trying to heal with no help is phenomenal. So my view is yes do step up and sort out your issues but there are those that need help. I was floored when I hit bottom as I was self-sufficient form the age of 15 right through to age 50. Am well now but I need to purge years of unhealed serious abuse that had not been addressed. I lived for years in guilt and shame as society throws it on abused children to forgive unforgivable acts carried out on them. We are rising as we speak up on cases like Epstein and other this world needs a good shake in many areas. Consciousness is rising no doubt and I support those who need to heal their wounds and that sometimes means time out.

A major issue which indirectly results from happiness is that one will eventually come down from it, and if ones goal is to be happy then they’ll eventually see their life’s work as ultimately unachievable, and therefore meaningless because meaning is found in achievement and achievements are based upon goals. If one contemplates further then they’ll also begin to resent existence because it doesn’t allow for happiness as a means of ultimate meaning, therefore depriving this person of their reason for existence. Essentially, existence paradoxically becomes the enemy of the individual.

thats exactly what is my life now :) One part of my family wants me to go against another part of my family during their conflict over my mom's testament. If not it is posible that in the future I would not be able to get my mom's home and garden. I dont want to cut contacts with one part of my family becouse for me family is more important than money and house. But of course I love the garden which my mom's created and I would love to work in there in the future. But I must chose between my mom's garden and my brother. So I think that while I chose my mom's garden I would be happy, but I would be happier if my bro is not distracted from me. I dont like the idea of not getting my mom's garden. But I want to be on good terms with my bro. :) I feel that my mom should not be happy if I chose a place and money over family. I feel that she wanted me to be happy but also she wanted to be proud of my ethics. She believed in my thoughts and ideas, she belived that I can be honest. I know that I m the best choice to care for her garden now, every other person is not as much interested in this garden as me. But I feel that she would have understand that I chose my bro over her garden. The chose of her garden would given me happiness, but the chose of my bro would given me clear conscience.

I rarely ever have a clear conscience or am at peace with myself I’m pathetic I wasn’t raised to be independent for one by my parents Then I got into a relationship not being an ounce independent The relationship was horrible because I was too immature I never matured and I’ve only just realised I’ve relied on others my whole life and never found my place in the world or worked out how to be independent and now, all the self realisation has made me extra depressed and much more low I hate myself.

Well, you hate the consequences of your past mistakes. And this is because it negatively affects you, which is the thing you claim to hate. Your “self” can change in an instant if you decide to. You recognize what you’ve done wrong, and from that it should be pretty obvious how to fix it. Do it or die depressed.
