A few years ago, I recall there being another Johnny Manziel, except this guy's name was Marcus Dupree. I'm seeing similar things here. I watched a documentary about Marcus and what he could have been if he had applied himself and followed Barry Switzer's discipline protocol to give it his best instead of thinking he was the showcase player and he didn't have to take it seriously. +zane brown trust me, he hated Manziel. To begin with, Jimmy Haslam was the one that wanted Manziel, Pettine wanted Derek Carr instead. Then, Pettine started Brian Hoyer for basically all of 2014 until he absolutely had to bench him because Hoyer was that bad, wasting a year for Manziel to develop. Next, in 2015 even after Manziel beat Tennessee he benched him for a 37 year old journeyman in Josh McCown. While McCown is a decent QB, why play him when your team sucks anyways. Once McCown got hurt, Pettine gave the starting job to Austin freaking Davis over Manziel because he "earned it", code for "Screw you Jimmy Haslam I run this team". Haslam basically had to threaten to fire Pettine on the spot if he didn't start Manziel, so that's why Manziel even saw the field this year. Basically, Manziel wasn't Pettine's guy so he wasn't going to play him. Johnny was playing pretty well for essentially a rookie, but with Pettine barely letting him see the field and his partying it led to this.
