I'm convinced the 14900K is just an overclocked 13900K and the 14700K is a 13900K with less "E" cores. The 14700K and the 13900K are just that similar.

A slight suggestion if i might add (corona renderer user). There is a new benchmark out for Corona Renderer and also when doing a comparison add in also the Rays/Second since Corona Devs use that to measure out PC performance :) Great vid nonetheless!

So for a clock bumped previous gen chip its performance hangs on achieving those extra frequencies. As the 13900 and 14900 are hot chips a slight difference in cooling could stop the 14900 making those extra Hz it should have. It would be nice to compare the 13900 and 14900 on temps and frequency alongside the FPS to know where its theoretical performance advantage has gone.

So from a manufacturing standpoint, it should be no difficulities and better yield for Inte's 14th Gen, since it's simply an extension of its 13th. The true jump is the coming ones by Intel 4 , which Meteor lake only will release the laptop versions ( this Dec) and not yet the desktop ones.

the test bench you use basically is the same as my pc.. ive never seen my 13900k hit over 85c. the difference is i use a artic 360 aio an a thermalright cpu contract frame.

Given how similar the 13900K and 14900K I wonder if a golden 13900k vs a poor 14900K would be about the same performance? Kinda like what we saw on many of your tests here. I guess the only real win for the 14th gen would be better ram support for the highest ram end speeds. I'd say it's debatable if the extra lil-pp cores on the 14700K are a win, given they also raise the power consumption to get the extra performance. Great video showing off how much better the X3D CPU's for damn near unbeatable performance per watt!

Intel 7 is actually closer to TSMC 7nm than 10nm in transistor density. It has slightly over 100 Mtr/mm2, while TSMC 7nm with EUV comes in at 115 (TSMC 7nm HPC, which does not use EUV was at just around 66).

If you look at how densely each node packs transistors (the numbers I mention in the comment), Intel 7 is actually much more comparable to TSMC 7nm, it is indeed a 7nm-class node in density.

I recently got an HP Omen 45L with the 13900K and 4090 configuration, and I'm so glad I didn't waste an extra $100 on the 14900K upgrade. I could've also looked around and gotten it with a 7950X3D though and I might be a little salty I didnt pay extra for that but tbh I don't really need it and honestly my PC is a beast and for the price I paid, I'm quite satisfied.

Nahhh. Intel sucks currently, cause they don't have their new socket out. While AMD already has had their AM5 for over a year out. And Ryzen 7000 is just the beginning. I had the 7950X and ASRock X670E Steel Legend mobo and then i upgraded to the 7950X3D and GIGABYTE X670E AORUS MASTER mobo which i'm having in my RiG at the moment with 128GB RAM. You've made the right choice by getting AM5. There's way more to look forward to compared to Intel till they release their next LGA 1851 who knows when next year. When by that time Ryzen 8000 will be our most likely and be crushing Intel even more than now.

The14th Gen CPU truly worthwhile considering is the 14700k. Which offers 4 more E cores, a general 15% increase in multicore performance, 10% increase in single core performance and a more stable overclocking platform. Runs a little cooler at the same speeds as the 13700k. But you guys carry on...

Hardware Canucks made a really cool test showing the14900k able to handle higher voltages at the same temps as the 13900k. So that's why they were able to ramp it to 6Ghz. Also, it'd be great if some of the big reviewers tried the $11 Thermaright contact frame to see if it helps much w. the 100C temp threshold (derBauer checked, but only on a de-lidded 14900k. Got a few degrees out of it). Or, how about undervolting? If either of those things help much, it could greatly improve the game/productivity performance on this CPU, since you'd be holding at 6GHz for much longer.

However Paul, would you mind including both the Ryzen 7 7700X and 7800X3D for the the Compute Benchmarks as the X3D chips tend to lack the Clock Speeds, and many workstation/creative tasks seem to rely more on Speed than Cache for cpus atm?

Paul, for them to do that, Intel would need to turn down the power requirements. They keep cranking it up more and more. AMD's chips just sip power compared to Intel's where you need your own reactor to power them and watercooling setup to even hope to keep it cool.
