Here is the video we released in which James and Les are working on the self-defence portion against a knife attack for their next belt test.
The attacker might have the knife out of sight but for this particular attack, James has the knife out and is in close proximity to Les and lunges forward for a quick thrust of the knife to the neck area. How James got that close could be part of any scenario that can be imagined to set the attack up. What is important is the actual defence against the knife thrust to incapacitate the attacker.
The attack is essentially defeated with an aggressive entry and at the point of contact, which disrupts the brain's plan to injure the defender.
This is not deemed to be a perfect defence against a knife attack, just one of many to that region of the body. The knife should still be respected.
