The dude was always riding around town, but Richwoods is a "blink, and you've missed it" town where nearly everyone knows everyone, so the thought of a kid being abducted there never occurred. One theory was he was hit and killed and got dumped somewhere. The search was quite extensive, partly because the area was mined for lead way back in the day, meaning there are abandoned mines and hundreds of tiff cuts. The day the news broke that he was found alive in the city, you could pretty much hear the whole town say, "They found Shawn?!?"

It’s important to note Shawn never had any agreement with his captor. An agreement is one predicated legally in good faith. An imperfect & very crude way to illustrate this contrast is if a perp agrees with law enforcement to a plea deal made under duress or for a specific example something like the Guðmundur and Geirfinnur case. He was psychologically manipulated to the extreme with the threat of mortal violence against him and his family while being isolated and habitually tortured. That’s not an agreement. That’s called survival. It’s an instinct that pushes the human body and mind to survive long beyond what is normally capable. His ability to stay mentally sane and lucid in over 1500 days of captivity is remarkable. In these cases ppl often conflate freedom of movement with freedoms from captivity. But they neglect the burden of manipulation Shawn’s under like him being made to feel responsible for the death of his entire family or ppl not believing him and enduring another drawn out torture session. When he truly felt alone and no one would help, his brain just survived. It’s truly heartbreaking man what a strong kid.

There's a really good documentary about Joyce, well worth looking up, in fact the advert in the paper, did you know Joyce Vincent wasn't the family looking for her, it was the documentary makers trying to find folk who knew her, that's why it's worded like that. Apparently they also rented space on taxi cabs, with the same advert on it.

Not too surprising, especially in the past years, I live in a block of eight, four on each side, and I barely see any of my neighbours, and I am in and out a couple of times every day, though admitted some of my in and outs are very early in the morning (5:30 or so early) or late in the evening (22:00 or so late). Though to be honest having the TV on that loud constantly for years, somebody would/should have complained, especially as there are usually noise nuisance clauses in most tenancy contracts, though I am not too sure how long they have been in, but I have been renting for 15 or so years and my tenancy has always had one. If you are not working and had enough money to set up bank transfers to cover gas, electric and other outgoings, and have little or no contact with family or friends for whatever reason, the only time anybody would want to contact you would be the various agencies if they need to do work or have information filled out. Though I do find it a bit odd, as there is supposed to be gas safety checks carried out every year (assuming it had a gas supply), and they are as far as I am aware a legal requirement, so you would have expected the council to be at least a bit interested as to why they were not being done, and in those years I would have expected the council to have wanted access to the flat for some reason or other, and got pushy if they had not got it.
