Chell got it worst. She survived all of the Aperture Labs just to be tossed out into a world that's in ruins, either for the Combine or for how many years have passed.
@spaceacepl463626 күн бұрын
imho, portal 2 takes place *after* the combine was defeated iirc, portal 2 takes place between 50 and 50 thousand years after portal 1 while walking through aperture science, you might notice one thing - there are no combine soldiers, no stalkers, no metrocops, no synths of any kind, and no combine tech and from what we've seen, the combine would gladly assimilate aperture and pillage it, especially considering that this facility has the one thing they desperately need - teleportation technology and yet, this facility has remained independent from the combine regime now, how and why did this happen? i like to think that aperture laboratories housed such horrors, that the combine gave up on it and abandoned it, not even knowing what was actually contained within we never see the entire facility simply because of its immense size, so who knows what else could be there - maybe the cut content that was never implemented in any portal game, like the hover turret, actually exists, or maybe some of the mantis men still sorta exist and have their own little community somewhere out there, or maybe *something* attacked the combine so much that they retreated additionally, as we hear in portal 2, the facility is prepared for apocalyptic events, so the various robots can sorta maintain it autonomously, and maybe there was some unseen defense system in place (not just the turrets), which ended up heing too troublesome for the combine (there's also the whole gordon freeman issue, which was way more important to the combine) when you finally leave the facility, you see a pristine wheat field, and an intact shack, something which shouldn't exist because the combine would've either destroyed it, or taken it for themselves and in portal 1, you see an equally pristine environment before being taken by the party escort bot, something which also shouldn't exist, meaning that either the combine never reached michigan, or the combine was already defeated (either worldwide, or in that particular area) so basically, chell PROBABLY doesn't have to worry about the combine even if she had to deal with them, she can solve pretty much any problem, and she's extremely stubborn, so she's pretty much on par with gordon freeman
@Ch_146526 күн бұрын
Chell probably had it better than Gordon Freeman. The horrors that took place at Aperture just don’t seem as bad as what Freeman saw. Seeing fellow killed by a wide variety of creatures from Xen, becoming zombies, or executed by the HECU is horrifying enough.

Yeah the ending to portal 2 always felt kinda backhanded lmao. Like, what now, has the world fallen? Or is humanity back again, after Gordon spanked the combine?? I guess we can only hope for some answers in "HL3", lol
@christianmogol96017 күн бұрын
Think it's more of a bitter sweet end tbh, chell's finally free from the facility but has to roam the barren wasteland once called earth until she starves to death. and it's kind of implied in the story that humanity haven't entirely recovered even after several millennia past, who knows if they were freed from their alien overlords or they just moved on after draining earth of its resources. We'll never know for certain unless valve just decided to come back and not just make a tech test using the IP and do a full proper sequel.
@Morality926 күн бұрын
I like the ideas presented in the video. And honestly, they're all laid out in a great way... But something that I feel has gone unnoticed for the longest time is the Morality Core's state and fate as a whole. (For those unaware, I'll explain it as best as I can). While there isn't an exact lore reason as to why the Morality Core never speaks or acts, I believe this theory can sum up why. As seen in the Rattmann Comic (Portal 2: Lab Rat), when Doug's colleague, Henry, brings the Morality Core to be activated by Doug, saying how it's the latest Artificial Intelligence Model and the newest in the current field of technology, essentially acting like a conscience. We later learn that, through Doug's words, your conscience can always be ignored, which is what happened on "Bring your Cat to Work Day". Now I like to believe that there was a testing period where the Morality Core, and possibly other cores alike, would go through and complete a couple of tasks to assure its functions (i.e. observing, answering, guiding, helping, listening etc). Given how it's about the Morality Core here, I assume it was all about seeing how aware and, most likely human and rational it can be. If it displayed these actions/emotions, it was clear that the Morality Core was deemed worthy to be put onto GLaDOS in order to stop her murderous intentions. And here, I want to bring out two options as to why the Morality Core acts dead when you meet it in Portal 1. 1. It was a choice made by the scientists, stripping down the Morality Core's functions to its bare essentials in order to stop GLaDOS' murderous tendencies, which in the end only *half worked*. 2. (And most likely) The Morality Core would've had more of a personality and a mind more advanced than the other cores that came before it, bringing alongside it an emotionally and rationally wiser mindset. However, given how GLaDOS can hear the cores attached to her, it's possible that the Morality Core can also hear them and become overwhelmed by the constant stream of mad ramblings and desires. Not only, but seeing how the Morality Core has a TV Static effect on its eye, it can be believed that GLaDOS somehow muzzled or "drugged" the Morality Core, leaving it unable to act in the time of need. This can be pinpointed to the mass genocide event of "Bring your Cat to Work Day" where GLaDOS ignored the Morality Core and its reasons, leaving it in a dazed and immobilized state, which is why in Portal 1 it acts like it's dead. It'd be like grabbing someone hypnotized by the shoulders and shaking them to snap them out of it, but are unable to. By the time Chell ends up in GLaDOS' chamber to confront her, the Morality Core was nothing more than a sleeping husk. Much like an angel, its wings were too heavy to carry it where it belongs, instead ending up in the fiery depths of Tartarus. I'd like to also mention that the Morality Core never screams when it was thrown down in the incinerator, so its most likely still alive, or at leats conserving Power in an unknown location. The other three cores do scream ane do damage GLaDOS, yet the Morality Core simply didn't damage her.

I love how Portal's lore can be so dark yet so fascinating, all in a puzzle game that cracks sarcastic jokes over and over again, be it from GLaDOS, Wheatley, or Cave Johnson. I also love how, while the events in Aperture, both past and present are dark, Chell being trapped in there and forced to escape is what not only saves her, but leads her to potentially be on of the last humans alive, giving her a happy ending. After a company with so much tragic yet interesting backstory, going out on a good note with our main Protagonist, cube in hand, frolicking in the fields is beautiful. IDK what Chell is doing out there now, but if I had to guess, she is farming some potatOS.

Another I assume painful way to d*e is by being halfway inside a portal and then moving one of them, which in Portal 2 will actually k*ll the player (and I assume also does in Portal 1 but I am unsure). You are literally being bifurcated along the path of where you were in the portal (so most likely from head to waist/foot), meaning in some cases it may not k*ll you instantly since only a part of you may have been cut off (thus dy*ing from blood loss/infection). - Just imagine standing in a portal, your shoulder all the way down to your ancle are what is in the middle of the portal and then you accidentally fire the gun, you get completely sliced down from shoulder to ancle which would NOT k*ll you instantly but you would be missing your arm, leg and so on, would start to heavily bleed to de*th and eventually d*e, but NOT instantly in this case. Now THAT is horrifying to think about, and a major reason I would not dare even step through the Portal nevermind moving it, what if something random happens to the Portal and this happens to me??? You are completely screwed if that is the case. To Add: Yes, you can in the game fire the gun while in the Portal and survive it, but in some cases you can also be k*lled by it, many players of the game did not even know this was an actually feature till VERY recently (like past few months), But yes, you can infact D*e from a Portal in these games...
