@pedrettigfscenes27073 ай бұрын
i'd say jackie ended up outside because she had been irritating the other girls for quite some time. they were all becoming invested in surviving out there and jackie wasn't and she made no attempt at hiding this. this definitely pissed the girls off so even though shauna was 100% wrong in what she did, it was inevitable that they would gang up on jackie. another explanation could be the wilderness if we are to believe it is actually real. it got rid of laura lee who was the groups morality. then jackie who represented the groups ties to modern society and normalcy. then crystal who represented friendship and how the girls will put survival over friendship. and finally, javi/shauna's baby, both of which represent innocence. all of these things needed to be stripped away from the group to truly have them revert to their primal nature.
@elainewaite12633 ай бұрын
Jackie represented the group’s last connection to the “normal” high school world. She never takes part in the group activities and isn’t high out of her mind at Doomcoming like the rest of them. Her death and eventual consumption is the final nail in the coffin that the survivors will never be able to reconnect to society properly

SPOILERS INCLUDED!!! Don’t forget when it comes to Shauna and Jeff, it takes two to tango!! Shauna and Jeff honestly deserve each other. Jeff cheated on Jackie with her best friend and Shauna homewrecked her friendship with Jackie. Just POS’ all around though. I feel like everyone gets visited by Karma, including Jackie. To my memory (please correct me if I’m wrong) Jackie did leave Van for dead in the plane that crashed when Jackie didn’t try hard enough to free Van from the seatbelt that was stuck. Van ended up freeing herself from the seatbelt and only for Jackie to be consumed by flames later on… damn I just realized this. This show is so good!

Jackie made the decision to save herself and Shauna. They only had a few seconds to get out before the plane exploded. Van surviving was miraculous. Later in the season the attic guy’s plane is going towards Van and Jackie pushes her out of the way and steps in front of her. She was always making decisions for the better of the team (especially Shauna) and that’s why she was captain. She’s depressed being out there, starving herself, her best friend is being weird and distant, her team, who she always had influence guiding over, shunning her essentially. She deserved better 😢

I lean towards the slow mineral (iron/mercury) poisoning theory. Some of the signs do fit: red river, birds dying, the wildlife being scarce (could be because of winter since it does come in pretty early in the show). Mineral poisoning leave long lasting effects, it'll be in the food they eat as well. Especially when they start the hunts, they would be consuming those who may have concentrated amounts of iron. Natalie, Taisa, and Lottie already had difficulty with their mental health (and it was the 90s). The trauma and starvation is likely to exacerbate that.

30:00 In defense of Lottie, I do agree she started the wildnerness worship. That’s just true. HOWEVER! I just saw her doing her best to support her friends in a traumatic event and they turned her into a god (arguably against her will). Big Wilderness stans like Mari and Van kept pushing for Lottie’s spiritual leadership and when she allows herself to be beat up by Shauna it was to help Shauna and punish herself imo. The Hunt comes from everyone wanting to keep this god figure alive even though she wanted them to eat her!! She wanted out! And passing the buck to Natalie allowed her to do that. I do think there could be something nefarious under the surface with Lottie but she just feels so tragic to me.

I don't think Natalie's death was pointless. I think she made a lot of progress in her emotional healing at the compound. I think she was tortured and guilt ridden for most of her life. She was able to forgive herself, understand which things were and were not her fault, and her final act was her way of not repeating her past. I also think this will profoundly change misty and allow her to finally trust someone again and lean on walter for support.
@thescarIetbitch3 ай бұрын
yeah i also think it’s important to remember that if it felt abrupt, and like natalie should have had more time, it’s probably because she was going to. the reason natalie was killed off was because juliette lewis, natalies actress, didn’t want to play her for a third season.

the only reason i’m entirely convinced this show is super natural is because of how the scenes are shot when lottie gets “possessed” during the seance and jackie’s body gets well... cooked lol. there’s very deliberate camera movement on a winding path from far away that really makes it seem like something moving towards them, and with jackie’s body no other branches had snow knocked off them, just a long winding camera shot and an obvious shaking of one branch to specifically slow cook jackie and lure the hungry girls to the scent of cooked meat and I think this supernatural creature (maybe a god summoned by whoever made the symbols, maybe cabin guy) could be latching onto lottie through her schizophrenia and same with Tai’s sleepwalking, like lotties visions aren’t happening entirely because of the supernatural woods, theyre happening bc she’s mentally unwell and off her medication but I also don’t think they’re entirely uninfluenced by something otherworldly

@Umbrores3 ай бұрын
So I got this video in my notif box a few days ago and initially started watching it though I hadn't even seen Yellowjackets, but when Trin gave a short summary of the plot I thought "actually. I have to watch this right now" so, almost a week later after having seen both seasons I returned to hear you guys' thoughts about it after forming my own opinions. Agree on Shauna being so frustrating to root for in the present timeline. In teen timeline I'm sort of like... These are all kids. Starving teens in a really wild situation. I can't really fault them for a lot of the stuff that happened there. Very surprised that Nicole is such a Misty appreciator, I was thinking she'd be universally hated by the fandom for the *really* fucked up shit she does EARLY ON in the show before any characters even get loopy from their worsening situation (like breaking the emergency signal thing). She's great as a character, it makes perfect sense that she became a nurse after observing her for even a minute in the teen timeline. She's obsessed with being in control, she wants people to depend on her and she'll lie and poison and (threaten to) kill people to get it done. The show does a great job at making her appalling (though season 2 seemed more oriented to making her more likeable. Not necessarily against it though, just not overly positive either. just neutral.) I have a few grievances with the show, which I'll keep condensed in two main points. 1. Yellowjackets doesn't know how to handle mystery. With Travis in the adult timeline and the whole blackmailing thing I felt like the show itself didn't know where it was going at all, and when it became time to resolve those issues it half-assed something together that was believable enough. Natalie being convinced that Travis' death wasn't a suicide, especially after the pattern from the candle wax showed because "he never believed in that stuff". The show then goes "oh it was lottie's cult that did the murder", sure. but then they backtrack all of that in season 2, it WAS actually an accident and it all happened because Travis DID believe in it. and then they make the Teen Timeline reflect this by making Travis one of the more devout Lottie believers. That seems like such a major plothole. It also brings me to my second problem with the show; 2. Yellowjackets does not want to make any of its characters "bad people". I mean, of course they're 'bad', they cannibalized, several committed murders in the adult timeline too. We've seen Shauna, Misty and Taissa especially. But they always get this big reason for doing the things they do that should make you want to root for them anyhow. The whole "oh travis' death was actually an accident and Lottie isn't REALLY bad" especially rubbed that in even though it was a thought i'd been having since halfway season 1. Shauna was trying to protect her friends and family. Misty was trying to protect her friends. Jeff was trying to protect his family. Taissa isn't even in control at all when she does her bad stuff. Lottie actually kidnapped Nat to protect her and everyone in the cult agreed to leave their bank acc and personal details with her because they genuinely trust her, and look! Her cult ACTUALLY helps people! Yellowjackets seems scared to actually commit to its characters being flawed on a deeper level. On one hand I'm glad they didn't make Lottie a villain though, because I'm VERY tired of media making its characters with diagnosed mental illnesses, ESPECIALLY schizophrenia the villains. While watching season 1 I was expecting/hoping that the other girls would turn Lottie in a religious idol without her say. That they'd abuse these hallucinations of hers and interpret them as signs or warnings and drag her into it, worsening her mental state. It did sort of happen later in season 2, and I think it's a much better thing than "oh look, the schizophrenic is Evil." I feel bad making my message so incredibly long omg so I'm going to quit it there. I have many more opinions and I'm sure I can word them more eloquently than this too when given some proper time to do so. But uhm, yeah. Hats off to you if you read all of this and I'd love to talk about yellowjackets more with others :D
@arbyswitch55803 ай бұрын
i read all of this! i really agree with both of your points and they're very well articulated. i have a theory that lottie's explanation of travis' death is, to put it bluntly, a flat out lie. and maybe we'll learn the truth or maybe that plot point is complete, but either way i don't believe her answer and i am a bit frustrated, as a viewer, that it wasn't handled better or explained more adequately. it also does upset me that it doesn't seem as though there's a proper mind being paid towards consistent characterizations or proper continuity. it bums me out that a show that is literally a mystery show isnt always handling the mystery elements well...like should i stop caring about who pit girl is, then, because i still wanna know!!!

I said basically said that it was mind boggling to hear Shauna get called a pdator but then have no discussion about Misty's nasty on screen cannon pdator behavior 😵💫 why does Misty get a pass or a gloss over when it's such a serious and recurring theme for her character? She drugged people in order to sleep with them several times over the course of the show. Coach Ben like 3 times and then her date during the adult timeline when she comes home with him and Nat is there. I don't think she drugged that guy but it felt like to me that she was about to take him down into her "hostage room"

theres part of me that wonders if they just... havent reviewed the material recently? and i think trin mentioned this was going off of one viewing, for her, but i might have just made that up (all love and appreciation to this content but it does seem like maybe she only watched it once, maybe not that recently, because like yeah theres some nuance here that sort of feels like it got flip flopped around) bc like, at least about simone and taissa, i could see maybe confusing simone's developing distrust towards her wife at the latter half of season one (because tai is not being a particularly good communicator and she's endangered their son at that point) with sammy's - for lack of a better turn of phrase - moderately off-putting behavior that at times comes across as contemptuous (can't blame him though, he can't even sleep at night without the literal nightmare fuel of someone - who he unfortunately probably can recognize as his mother - in a tree outside his window taunting him)

I think Taisha is such an interesting character as someone who looks at the show thru the lense of psychology rather than the supernatural. My theory is that she suppresses her trauma and mental illness to cope, and was taught to do that as a child (theory is that she got less than ideal mental health care) and bc of that it comes out during her sleep. And the more stressed she becomes, it exacerbates her mental illness and sleep walking/eating/etc... My other theory is that when it comes out that they all cannibalised, and she loses her politics career, she will have a break and her mental illness will come out while she's awake. I also think her and Lottie might end up in the same psychiatric hospital and maaaybe Lotti will convince her she isn't mentally ill it's actually The Forest (or whatever supernatural force she believes in). Anyway I love this show so much and I have been just dying for season 3. I really hope they do run with the themes of trauma, mental illness, and cult mentalities, and it doesn't become full-blown supernatural. I also loved what you both said about "of course it looks supernatural we are seeing it thru their eyes and they believe in that"; I think you were spot on.
@arbyswitch55803 ай бұрын
she and her grandmother had a mutual hallucination of the man with no eyes when she was a really young kid, maybe thats a spirit of doom and death or maybe mental illness is hereditary. i love that its still vague and could really go either way. side note, speaking of eyes and taissa, i think its really cool that when tawny cypress's eyes are lit a specific way theres a very red undertone to her brown eyes, i think its really cool the way that comes up in the show. its very subtle and reminds me that brown eyes are really gorgeous and diverse in their variations
@jijitters23 күн бұрын
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this as an exploration of trauma and mental illness and how this impacted them. I hate the supernatural interpretations, and though I deeply want it answered clearly, I will be disappointed if it is supernatural. That's far less interesting than it being their own minds and potential natural elements from the earth causing their delusions and hallucinations.

25:00 defending lottie.. my girl is crazy for sure! but she actively tried to not give into everything in the adult timeline and everyone around her just kept pushing. and even in teen time line…. she didn’t want any of that when it gets to the hunt. she was beat the fuck yo and the girls all just blame her for that 🙁 she def thinks she is truly helping ppl in teen timeline and (in a more mlm girlboss way) in the adult timeline. she definitely suffers constantly in both timelines lmao

also she literally suffers from a mental illness so a lot of criticism of her reads very ableist

girl how isn't lottie supernatural... the bear. her talking in FRENCH. jackies body. the birds. AND IT GOES ON
@blakesummers3764Күн бұрын
Brains do weird shit under stress, she was infact in a french class before. Animals have also done stranger things then that. It's a way better tragedy if there is 0 supernatural stuff and it's just them all kinda being shitty

Soooooooooooo I do think it'll be a thing that adult Shauna becomes the Antler Queen. Like how Nat became it after Javi died in her place. I think the cult person being there was meant for Nat's character growth and also maybe as a narrative distraction from that pattern. Get the queen card, survive the hunt, snatch that antler crown. I do also wonder if teen Nat will STAY the Antler Queen in the wilderness or if the title will pass to someone else like the way it went to her from Lottie. But Juliette Lewis has confirmed she's not going to be in the next season. She's hopeful she'll be able to come back for a flashback or something, so I think that does mean Nat died. Or Juliette Lewis and production are seated atop a throne of lies.

I haaaaaaaaate the adult story lines, I just want to watch the girls survive in the woods

I like the adult storyline but I feel like it should have been in the later seasons after the girls get rescued or a spinoff😕

Same, it's so boring. It ends up being all about exploring the potential meaning behind the cult and the symbol, and as someone who hates the supernatural interpretation, I really don't want that. I do not care at all about this.

Thank god for this cuz i just couldn't get myself to finish that show without some motivation. So now i can catch up and then enjoy the nuance of this girl talk. This is definition of girlypop and i wish our nation's leaders were aware of that.
