We're glad that we were able to be of assistance. If you're ever in the market for a diamond, we should be able to beat anyone's prices matching apples to apples regarding quality (or often the exact same diamond you see on a different website) . So don't hesitate to ask! sales@goodoldgold.com

Thanks very much for all of your videos, I've learned a ton and feel much more informed about my purchase. It seems hard to get straight, detailed information on some of this stuff and you've done a great job summing things up in your many videos. Two questions that came to mind, one topical, one tangential: 1.) What do the lower facet lengths look like from the bottom view in real life, is there a very discernible difference like we see from the top view? 2.) Have you ever been to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in DC? They have an incredible gem and jewelry collection that you could practically spend all day in. The old diamond styles made me think of the tiara Napoleon gifted his wife, among other things.

Greetings +bbroogs and thanks for your comment. In answer to your questions ... 1. Nope. :) Under a microscope yes but observing it to the human eye ... not really. We can only really observe the light performance results from the face up view. The lower halves are an extremely important facet set. 2. Shame on me but I haven't. I do have an acquaintance there in the gentleman who runs their gems division. In the acquisition of the August Vintage patent one of the diamonds that were attempted to be used to disqualify the patent was the Hope diamond itself. While the Hope diamond shares the same facet design as August Vintage it doesn't share the same optical design. I really do need to get down there though with my macro lens. ;) If you would ever like my assistance in selecting a diamond or just have any questions in general don't hesitate to pm me. Kindest regards, Jonathan

Hi , what do you think the diamond only has 71% lower half length, but precision of cut, symmetry and polish are all excellent?
@DiamondInfoMan
@DiamondInfoMan 3 жыл бұрын
The arrows in a diamond with 71% LHF will be on the wider side, but it should still look nice. Regarding the polish, symmetry and cut, there is a wide range of "excellent" diamonds. Most of them we come across are borderline "very good" in our opinion. So if order for me to offer you an educated reply, I'd need to see more information off the diamonds lab report. Your welcome to email me at matt@goodoldgold.com if you have the lab report available. Once I view it, I should be able to offer you a more in depth response.

Great videos and you're a good presenter. One point in this vid however seems to me by comparing Old Euro with Round Brill you're not comparing like for like surely ? So its not just comparing LH lengths.

***** Thank you for your kind words Mike. I understand what you're saying. We tend to think of OEC's as not being round brilliant's and there is truth to that statement. At the end of the day though both are 57/58 faceted round brilliant cuts whose primary difference is lower half lengths. I genuinely appreciate your comment and insight.

Good Old Gold OK. Understood. I'm learning all the time. Have you thought of using a lapel mic instead of a hand held ? It would free both hands. I've worked with probably hundreds of broadcast TV presenters and you'd give the best of them a run for their money, so anytime you want to get out of the jewelry business you've have a viable alternative career waiting. Keep up the good work.

***** You rock. :) And yep ... have the lapel mic. Guess it's out of sheer laziness as it's easier for me to grab the old fashioned mic and go to work. :) I'll need to start using it again. :P

If women weren't so shallow and excited by sparkly things, there would be no diamond industry. I can't imagine a more ridiculous thing to do then be in the business of selling this useless rock. By the way from an atomic standpoint, there is no difference between diamonds and a lump of coal.

kb26inla Women just like gifts. It’s a bunch of men who control and push the diamond market. And diamonds are more than just engagement ring sparkle. They’re an investment. What an >ahem< “utilitarian” way to view the stones you have. Lol
