Love this!! I have the same sentiment about being self sufficient and living more rural. I love my property and have grown to hate the cities. I live about 45 minutes outside NYC and dream to get further away. Out of Jersey entirely. But for now it's peaceful where I am and I have so much satisfaction doing things myself, riding my tractor and handling the yard work! Getting more into prepping over these past 12 months too.

17:43 We did not have water pressure in Texas when the entire power grid shut down in February 2021. The sewage systems began backing up in some areas. A makeshift toilet was almost a necessity before “they” brought the power back on.

Well, Texas deregulated their Utilities…so Gov.Greg had to ask for a handout from the Feds, and screwed over some of the states surrounding Texas when their power was re-routed to Texas. Oh yeah, and it was the “solar and wind” power industries that contributed to the grid collapsing, According to gov. Greg. I hope you Texans remember this when it’s time to vote.

The imagery of an orchard is the best parallel to prepping. You do an easy investment initially that sits around for years. Then one day you suddenly start to utilize the fruits of your investment. So maybe call the series, “The Orchard.”

The light clicked on for me in 2011 while I was stationed at Bragg. A tornado rolled through, cut power for a day or so, and grocery store shelves emptied. It doesn't need to be a nuclear war or something, just nature doing its thing when we aren't expecting. Good stuff, thanks.
@delav833 жыл бұрын
Nature can make you uncomfortable for a while but man made disasters and major civil unrest can cause major casualties. It's coming to this country eventually there's no way around it. That's why I prep but it's nice to not worry about what nature has up its sleeve along the way.

I grew up on the Outer Banks, on an island where you knew you were guaranteed to have at least one major storm a year that you had to survive and that would cut you off from the world for a bit. You had to be ready for that and that lesson has stuck with me. I wouldn't consider myself a "prepper", but I am prepared. IMO that has more to do with mental/emotional attitude than with physical preparedness, though you shouldn't neglect that either.

I would recommend everyone at a minimum get basic first aid training. If you have the time and can find a class in your area, get a Wilderness First Aid course. It is sometimes called Wilderness and Urban Disaster First Aid. It is basically first aid when an ambulance is NOT readily available. So you are fending for yourself. I took the class 3 times while with the Boy Scouts as it is required for their high adventure camps like Philmont. Fascinating and useful training. And the manual you get is very good.

My wife and I started on our Preparedness journey after watching the Movie San Andreas. It got us to thinking. It's interesting that we have the same mindset as you, where we're not doomsday but realistic about what can happen to change our familiar way of life. Interesting about the EMP android tablet. I did this a few years ago, and when I come across something on the internet that I believe I might want to reference in the future, I download it. We have a couple of plastic totes that we spray adhesive foil on the inside then cover the foil with cardboard to protect the contents. From the outside It looks like just another tote but is a Faraday cage. I also have Extra computers for the truck stored in there as well. I really enjoy your attitude and videos.

First off mike!! great video and it was so awesome to have met you and overland expo west! such a awesome man and super cool and like you said normal dude! anyways about your emp bag.. the tablet specifically in the event of an emp electronics will fail to even power on if they’re found within the radius of the pulse! that being said i don’t know where you live so you could be safe from that but also emp’s can have a wider radius that may reach you. in order to protect a device from such an emp it has to be shielded. it’s pretty simple too, in the case of your tablet having it in a sealed metal box made of copper or steal can most often times completely protect the device inside allowing it to still power on and be usable. also in some devices they’re built to handle huge power surges and can withstand the emp but most won’t be able to.. so just a thought to cover all your corners and protect that device and others if you need to shield them and they’ll have a higher change if still being useful if such an event occurs. Again Mike great video great channel love your stuff!!

Preparedness things I'd be interested in: - Minimal setup like best food/water/shelter if you need to go - How to setup a go bag - How to decide where to go if you need to bug out - Do you know how to forage? Is it worth knowing in your opinion? - Top 5 "tools" e.g. knife, gun, phone, solar battery, etc. - People usually think of being on their own with their family in these situations. What's your opinion on trying to create community after a disaster event vs. avoiding others? - How much money do you think should be spent on preparedness? Maybe in percentage since everyone makes different amounts of money. Like should I spend 1% or 10% of my income on prepping?

Just coming to this vid as we've evacuated our home in Tahoe due to the Caldor fire. There were SO many people unprepared for an event like this. Didn't have valuables prioritized, no go bags, no idea where to go, what to do with their animals, etc. Let alone thinking about where they would stay long term. We were out when the obvious signs pointed to leaving with minimal fuss, most of the town ended up sitting for hours in a traffic jam on their phones tweeting about how public officials didn't help them. As my wife says that's the difference between sheep and wolves. Kids weren't scared, dogs love a road trip, we knew what to take and what to leave. I missed a half day of work and have time to watch youtube. ;) I can't stress enough whether it's prep for long term survival or just a short term event like this one, having a plan, organization and the right mindset is what makes things as stress free as possible. No scrambling, no freakouts, no drama.
