Our politicians have cut Medicaid and healthcare to bare bones before the pandemic. I worked in great hospital for 28 and in the last 1.5 years were a living hell. My hours were cut drastically and many staff were laid off and fired. I quit my unstable job and moved overseas. My total healthcare cost for my 2 years in Thailand has been $75 dollars. The expats I worked with couldn’t believe how expensive our healthcare is. One Thai lady said so, if you don’t have money to pay you die.Even in a third world country, there are government hospitals that they can go to and get taken care of at a reasonable price. We have 0 community acquired corona virus in 79 days in Thailand.
@marcosAlcoforado4 жыл бұрын
Healtcare became unafordable because of Medicaid subsidies, excessive regulation and market monopoly of the American Doctor Associations. There are doctors all over the world crazy to come here and give services to people with much cheaper prices but they are not allowed to do so. And the government hospitals are not free. have you noticed how manufactured products are so expensive in Thailand ? There are taxes that creep in during all the production chain of the products. You don't see, but 40% to 50% of the price of the product is taxes. You pay for that hospital but just in another way. A way that you can't control, for a service that you can't choose. The government does that for you.

For the record, a " Neoliberal " is NOT the same as a " Liberal " as I suspect more than a few people on these pages may think ... " a modified form of liberalism tending to favor free-market capitalism " is one explanation, but it can mean more ... Ronald Reagan was a good example - free (and unfettered) Capitalism, deregulation to help Business, AT THE EXPENSE of Worker's rights, pay rates, clean air and water Legislation and so much more. His British counterpart Margaret Thatcher did similar damage in England and the last Forty Years of major Corporate profit, went hand-in-hand with Wage Stagnation ... that AIN'T no Liberal, folks !

Ok I have over mmn 18 books, several videos, notes, commentaries, etc. on from and on Prof Chomsky. I will admit that he is a poetic Lecturer. I will concur that he is an Encyclopedia or 2 of vast empirical knowledge. I have a synopsis on the Prof and I can note the following: Democracy A-Z I have him almost 80% against it. On IT he is not in his element. His constant Interaction on future and past occurrences Is Insightful and he pulls his empirical knowledge through the span of Time, The anachronism, seems to be not applicable when he discusses historical timelines, as it's presented as I have the T-shirts type of nuances. He is known to figuratively and almost lyrically poetically give 6 different takes on for instance liberalism or ..., BUT Negatively and Bitterness isn't far away in his submissions. To elaborate on good, positive, entertaining, insightful ideas, maybe permeate on them, increase his value as a critical evaluator and an entrepreneurial exponent of data, would have had him followed by at least a million view and an insightful "leader' of his field. Often we find more charismatic, insightful, alternative thinkers that bring out the Best in others. Prof Chomsky doesn't live up to these standards. His academic Insight and different nuances Insight still makes him "applicable" but alas limited so. If he had his knowledge, share it with insight and alternatives, reflecting on possible actions to follow, noting worthwhile attempts (sometimes does) enhance the efforts of others and their applications, what we can learn from them and what is bad examples and traits, I for one would be hooked and appreciate his knowledge and the vast array of applications. He himself is constantly bitter and doesn't recognize a basic human quality. The Good and Bad in every human. His essay doesn't reflect that. Negativity via the actions is frequent, without adding, discussing, or alleviating the data, to ensure we learn what it is, (yes) what it can be in the different applications and fields, what it should be, and why (his knowledge would have catapulted him to an expert for the objective markers and general public, But instead he comes over as a "professor" having vast knowledge, limitedly shared, as he would be found out of his depth of certain matters, and so what, its human, no one can know all, but his serious lack of interactive positive and negatives whiles just one-eyed slam or downplay activities and actions, is tough, really tough for me to accept and to appreciate him as who he CAN be. He leaves me empty, like yes, I heard a thorough terminology explanation and historical references, Identifiers, and applications, but no soul. No reference to the good in action, how it could have done more or less, how it can be applied over and across various applicational fields of economics. No zest, if you analyze it. In this particular lecture/talk I'm really discontent. Facts aren't chronological, secure, and out of his depth and or expertise. There is some false accusations, un fact-checked facts - being asked something OUT of your comfort zone, expected your "Plato" to add to the fray some new insights, or see if there is across the different perspectives some interaction, similarities, and common applications of economical and political values That can from a historical point be debated and applications/applicability found. Sadly missed out. On Covid, the governments' reactions, Timelines, and positives /negatives, a who dun it and where, what, how, who can do something about the current political, global, and the USA Interactions and activities to have or secure a better outcome. If you're out of your depth, ask what the topics would be and use your strengths to first understand, analyze the field and applications, "anticipate the General Questions, the relativistic Questions as to why YOU specifically would have been asked to comment, what insightful detail you gathered and the applications after analysis to make it clear for the listener (his strong point), and then note on possible speculative outcomes given a scenario or 3. On 2000 he was surely out of his depth and the stumbling around to surmise a relatively applicable answer was sad to see, and I blamed the fact that he doesn't want to admit "defeat"? when he doesn't or can't significantly speculate on the topic, BUT he can add that if this is like this, then that, or like that, then this or that can occur. On Covid, and the Republicans, Trump, etc. he is out of his depth. Sadly. He has never favoured any Political leader except maybe a point or 2 about Obama (the dreamer). Devoid of emotional consciousness thus he isn't. Maybe he just doesn't like certain 'Political and economical figures" and that comes over into "makes Jack such a sad boy". He is busy losing it. If I have to be frank and also have candour.

@Flash Gordon Nothing wrong with my speakers, which are actually Sennheiser 650 headphones. The interviewer is so much louder than Chomsky that if I want to hear what he's saying I have to constantly ride the volume or get my head blown off whenever she talks.

Good talk, as always. Noam mentioned a Hong Kong economist who recently wrote a book and concluded that US-based multi-nationals own 50% of th world's wealth. It sounded like he called this person "John Stars" but I could not find such a person. Anybody got the correct name of tis author/economist?

It’s this guy (Sean, not John). And I think he gets little attention in Hong Kong. www.cityu.edu.hk/ais/OurTeam_StaffProfile_Grid.aspx?username=skstarrs

American here, I agree with almost everything Professor Chomsky said, he was slightly off on the Jesus is returning population... it’s 48%.😕

That's still 48% too many.

This is off subject, but the guy in the opening looks and sounds like Mike Myers doing an impression of his father.

Another good question is... where are China and Russia’s Covid test results now?!!
@艺术人生3 жыл бұрын
have you ever read anything about China and by China? haven't the West had enough China-bashing campaigns for you to tell right from wrong? but we ourselves have all the updates and analyses of the test results and the disease itself every day here in China including HK and Macao. by the way, we travel around the country, dine out every day and night after the lift of the lockdown half a year ago, but with a face mask of course! thank you!

The Old deserve no inherent respect, yet demand it. The great arrogance, and great reduction of the worth of respect, is the assumption of the elderly that their years, whatever they do with them, grant them wisdom. Every year holds the potential for increased wisdom, but may easily be left to waste, and garner no wiseness at all. If you wish to have respect from the young, you must show that your years are not just numbers, but testaments to your sagacity. Though First World populations are ageing, there are few elders these days... but there are some. Noam is a wise old man, and he has my utmost respect. 91 years! Congratulations!
